North of Marion, NC and just south of Linville, TangleWood Creekside Campsites offers something for everyone: primitive campsites, Safari Tents, a Little Log Cabin and a Tiny House with a wood-fired hot tub. 95% of our wooded sites are situated immediately beside a clear mountain stream and all are just minutes from the regions most famous local attractions for sightseeing and outdoor activities. The following are but a few of our favorite things to do within a short drive: visit Linville Falls, Caverns, Gorge and/or Winery; cruise the Blue Ridge parkway; pick apples at the Orchard at Altapss; tube/kayak down the Catawba river; hike beautiful Tom’s Creek Falls or Crabtree Falls; cross Grandfather Mountains mile high bridge and explore the nearby towns of Spruce Pines or Little Switzerland. The scenic drives to Asheville, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, Sugar and Beech mountains make them each wonderful day-trip destinations as well.
We are happy to supply a comprehensive list upon request (including distance, drive time and links with directions) but there is also plenty of exploring to do right at here on site where nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts are encouraged to explore, on foot or mountain-bike, anywhere within our 170 acres (or the adjoining 250 acres owned by the US Forestry Service off our North Western border) and are likely to catch glimpses of turkey, beaver, deer, fox, eastern box turtle and the many species of songbird and raptor.

As the seasons roll along, even after 23 years, as I walk through my woods, I often think of Frost's poem. The trees bright with autumn colors, winter snow making all things pure, the dogwoods coming into blossom. Eye candy.
Babbling Brook Campground was started when we were in a financial famine. I wasn't sure I was the gal for hosting. It turns out, hosting is a perfect fit for me, and for our land.
We started with the treehouse in April of 2018, and it continues to grow into something better each year. We have four sites, Babbling Brook Treehouse, Happy Hillside Camping, The Bird's Nest, and Cozy Cottage Farm Stay. The Cozy Cottage is up at our farm, but you have access to the camp and creek below. Up at the farm, you can be with the livestock.
There is no electricity or running water, but that is part of the charm.
Come, leave the world behind, have the tree frogs sing you to sleep as the babbling brook flows along the edge of the property.

Numerous large manicured campsites in an open space DIRECTLY ON THE NEW RIVER where adventures abound! Up to 4 guests and 2 tents per site.
Newly constructed tiny home provides GLAMPING at its finest! The Liberty cabin shares a space with a few tent sites along the river. With the addition of Liberty, I have limited the number of campers to 4. (Exceptions may be made for holiday weekends). There is plenty of space for everyone and the cabin sits above the tent sites for amazing views and privacy.
While HWY 16 can be a bit noisy during busy times, step into the campsites and let the peaceful noise-canceling river serenity whisk you away. Forest views across the river with endless fireflies and stars that light up the night!
Zaloo's Canoes, Kayak, and Tubes is within eyesight and will set you up with an amazing float or paddle down river. Plentiful small mouth bass and trout fishing just steps from your site. Outhouse w/washing station. Fire pits at each site as well as a large communal fire pit and picnic tables.
Downtown West Jefferson is just 15 minutes away with local breweries, quaint restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping, music, art, and a wonderful farmer's market from May - October.
The quaint little town of Lansing, NC is quickly becoming a favorite stop of mine. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County.
The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc.
Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge.
Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands!
We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival.

This property was my childhood home and after retiring, my husband and I moved back to one of the homes on this farm where I grew up. He has since passed and my son, Todd, now helps me maintain the property and assists with ensuring the best experience for our guests.
We wanted to offer this space for campers to share the awesome views and this part of North Carolina with others who enjoy nature, outdoors, and all the great things to experience in the surrounding towns. Only a 20 minute drive to Asheville where you can tour Biltmore House, Grove Park, breweries, eat at many great restaurants, enjoy rafting, zip lining and many other outdoor activities. We are 15 minutes from Blue Ridge Parkway with 2-lane, less traveled access road to get there.

The tiny cabins can only accommodate 2 adults and 2 children maximum occupancy. If your family is larger than that, please contact us or the booking site to make additional arrangements. Each cabin is generously spaced from the others for a pleasant heir of privacy. Tent sites are also spaced apart with your privacy in mind.
Ashe County is offers something for everyone. Beautiful hiking trails are as close or as far as you want to drive to get there. Downtown offers an experience in walking back in time with a small town feel that is unmatched. Delicious eating experiences are available from country cooking to fine dining.
Camp Karuga is also perfectly situated for traveling to Boone, Blowing Rock or Banner Elk without the exhaustion of a long drive. There is so many wonderful experiences around Camp Karuga that it will be hard to choose from.

Just 25 minutes to the amazing city of Asheville, North Carolina and less than 20 minutes to Marshall, where you can find groceries, laundry, and more. We are also only 45 minutes from the famous Max Patch, 60 minutes from DuPont Forest, 75 minutes from Cherokee, 90 minutes from Lake James, and under 2 hours from Linville Gorge. Roads are well maintained and suitable for most vehicles.
Nature and nurture abound in this secluded, family-friendly retreat. The creek runs along the property, so you’ll be able to hear it as you wake up and again as you fall asleep at night. There is also a trail that runs through the whole property that you can use to explore without ever leaving the land.
Enjoy hiking, biking, and wildlife watching, or just relax and meditate to the sounds and smells of the local wildlife.
Your Hosts live partially on site and will greet you upon arrival, but we are then happy to grant you as much privacy as you like unless you contact us for assistance during your stay.
Note that we have AirBnB listings on this property, so you may see other visitors in common areas or in passing on the property, but you can still expect plenty of seclusion during your visit.
About the listing
Take advantage of the outhouse which features a “sawdust flush” toilet.
We also offer a rustic shower experience, which consists of a watering can on a pulley in the outhouse. One to two cans of pre-heated water offer a complete 15-minute shower. Biodegradable soap is provided.
For cooking, we provide an outdoor sink and cooking area with a propane burner, grill and grate, basic camping pots, dishes, and a wash area. We can also provide a cooler if need be. PLEASE be mindful that we have bears on the property so wash dishes well and pack up all food materials and scraps away from your tent area when done.

This 1890's farm was many things in times long ago! It acted as a working Tobacco Farm, a country store and was known to have the purest spring in the region by the indians and mountain men! It also has a dark past complete with murder and moonshine! For a full history check out this book, Red Hill. The untold story of the Whitson Brothers and the Murder of Kit Byrd. The short version of the story: The farm also acted as a country store that was also a front for moonshine. The Whitson Brothers who owned our farm had a deal with Kit Byrd; a mountaineer from "on the mountain" who had a knack for making good shine. It ultimately was the death of him at the hands of the 3 Whitson Brothers. This murder years later led to the death of a large percentage of the population in this small NC Mtn town. The toilets and outdoor showers have been carefully planned out to be environmentally conscious, with special consideration to our creeks that drain into the Toe River. The "outhouse/camp" toilet has instructions so please read it and also has a foot pump hand cleaning sink beside it. The shower is an instant hot water shower heated by propane. While this space is not winterized it has some insulation and a propane heater. The Tiny can be rented during the winter for $68 a night good Nov-March.Guest accessGuests' space is a tiny house with a covered porch, attached bathroom, shower, covered outdoor kitchen, and one 2 person tent site. The tent site is best used April-October unless you have proper winter camping equipment.Looking for adventure...look no further it is right outside your door, literally. Use your $20 adventure credit onsite with NCOA: whitewater, tubing, rock climbing and more. A few of the river activities end or begin a short walk from the Root Cellar House. You can also purchase hiking/river essentials at the Tiny Hike Shop. Built in 2019 by an expert craftsman, this 300-square-foot home feels far more spacious than its footprint suggests, with sweet artistic touches throughout — most guests tell us it's the most beautiful, unique tiny home they've ever stayed in.
You'll be nestled on 14 pristine acres with two decks, your own private hot tub, and a spring-fed creek a short walk down the driveway. The home sits shaded under a huge magnolia tree, keeping it cool in summer, with AC and heaters for year-round comfort. There's a gas fireplace on the outdoor porch and a fire pit for evenings under the trees.
Sleeping & layout: A queen bed in the upper loft, a large twin daybed on the main level, and an additional loft with camping mats if needed. Comfortably sleeps 3, up to 4–5 if a couple are children or petite adults (max 4 guests). The home includes a full kitchen, bathroom, living area, and two lofts. The bathroom has an easy-to-maintain composting toilet — easy to use instructions are in the house manual..
Privacy: The main house is about 30 yards up the hill. We're close if you need us, but we give every guest plenty of privacy. The front deck holds your screened-in private hot tub. The back deck is reserved for quiet reflection — meditation, yoga, birdwatching — and we ask that it stay silent.
On-site extras: A massage therapist is often available on-site — just ask about pricing and availability. We also offer 2–3 hour wood-fired sauna sessions for an additional fee (covers the labor and wood involved) — well worth it, and easy to arrange with advance notice.
Location: You're 5 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway, with easy access to great hiking, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and art galleries. Asheville is 15 minutes away, Weaverville about 10.
A note on noise: This is a quiet retreat, not a party spot. Our nearest neighbors are about 200 yards down the hill, so we ask all guests to keep noise low, especially in the evening, which is also why the back deck is reserved as a silent space.

Other things to note

I moved here from San Francisco, to simplify my life, and accomplish my dreams. The Tiny house was designed and built by architect, Jesse Plaster. It's a unique cozy loft style design, set back in the woods on our property. It's purposely placed next to a creek, with a nice stone fire ring to really enjoy the outdoors. In the cold months, it's heated by a wood burning stove. Also next to the house are logging roads that allow you to hike the Ripshin Mountains. The Yadkin River is near by, and so is Boone and Blowing Rock. If you like mountain biking, bring your bike to ride Kerr Scott, or Zacks Fork trails. Also, check out the workshops at Pattersonschoolfoundation.org They offer sustainable living classes such as cheese making, mushroom foraging, blacksmithing, soap making, kimchi making, etc... When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling.
Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood.
You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7.
Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more.

We loved this spot! It had the perfect amount of amenities for our first time camping again after having our 3rd kid. The cabin was big enough to put a pack n play in, plus a sleeping pad on the floor (if needed). The bathroom was super clean, and the bed was very comfortable! The site was quiet, and we really enjoyed our time there. A few things to note; not bad, just info! The creek is very close, but you do have to walk to it/can’t see it from the cabin. We did let our older kids play in it unsupervised and could hear them/call them, but you couldn’t hear the creek while in the cabin or sitting by the fire (I love to fall asleep to the sound of a creek while camping!). Also, we found the land surrounding to be slightly more sloped than we expected so had a little difficulty setting up a tent on level ground.
We still really enjoyed our experience! Natalie and her husband were so kind, we loved seeing all the horses, and getting visits from their dog!

This cabin and site was a million times nicer than we expected!!! We expected a simple wooden box to keep us out of the rain and got a big cozy cabin complete with covered porch, lamp, and rocking chairs. We didn’t end up needing hardly any of the gear we brought. The bathhouse is literally right outside. There’s great WiFi that covers the entire campground. The pavilion with fire pit, picnic tables, lights, grills, and a whole smoker are just a short walk down the hill. The attendant was helpful and friendly. It was so quiet and peaceful. Even though there’s a ton of sites and cabins we really felt like we had our privacy. It was a fantastic experience, highly recommend!

Perfect tiny house to escape the noise. This quiet location has a beautiful babbling creek running alongside that was so peaceful to hear, especially with the crackling campfire at night. Natalie and Matthew are wonderful hosts, very responsive the entire time. The "Firefly" moniker was so fitting when we saw thousands and thousands of fireflies lighting up the surrounding area like twinkling Christmas lights all around. It was truly amazing to just get lost in the beauty of it all. The location is just right to get to dozens of cool Blue Ridge attractions within 20-30 mins. All in all we were so happy with our camping trip and highly recommend the Firefly Tiny House!

Rocky Face Camp hosted by Sarah was the perfect spot for our father/son camping trip. We had three dads and six boys, and the setup was exactly what we were looking for. Plenty of room to pitch tents, relax around camp, and enjoy time together when we weren’t out hiking the local trails.
The location was great — tucked away enough to feel like a true camping experience, but still conveniently located between Boone and Banner Elk so we could grab a hearty meal after a long day of hiking. The boys had an absolute blast, and the dads appreciated how peaceful and easy everything was.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly campsite with easy access to outdoor adventures and nearby mountain towns, we’d definitely recommend Rocky Face Camp.

We loved our stay in the a-frame and wish we could have stayed more than one night. It was cozy and tucked away with a beautiful view of lush green forest. We had the entire place to ourselves which was magical and restorative. The mattress was also very comfortable which was a plus! Liz kindly also provided extra gear (blanket, bug spray, lamp) since we had flown in and didn’t have extra gear. She was so hospitable and generous during our brief stay. We kept the window-wall up all night and had a great night’s sleep in the fresh air!

Ocean Blue was great!! A true oasis in the wilds of western NC! We asked Kevin, the host, for some area info, and he sent more great ideas for things to do in the area than we could do during this one short trip, and I've lived here for 30 or more years, so I know about most of the "first time here and have already been there" places in the North Carolina Mountains.
The arched cabin was wonderful, fun, and unusual. The headliner of our stay at Ocean Blue was the night sky!!!
