North of Marion, NC and just south of Linville, TangleWood Creekside Campsites offers something for everyone: primitive campsites, Safari Tents, a Little Log Cabin and a Tiny House with a wood-fired hot tub. 95% of our wooded sites are situated immediately beside a clear mountain stream and all are just minutes from the regions most famous local attractions for sightseeing and outdoor activities. The following are but a few of our favorite things to do within a short drive: visit Linville Falls, Caverns, Gorge and/or Winery; cruise the Blue Ridge parkway; pick apples at the Orchard at Altapss; tube/kayak down the Catawba river; hike beautiful Tom’s Creek Falls or Crabtree Falls; cross Grandfather Mountains mile high bridge and explore the nearby towns of Spruce Pines or Little Switzerland. The scenic drives to Asheville, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, Sugar and Beech mountains make them each wonderful day-trip destinations as well.
We are happy to supply a comprehensive list upon request (including distance, drive time and links with directions) but there is also plenty of exploring to do right at here on site where nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts are encouraged to explore, on foot or mountain-bike, anywhere within our 170 acres (or the adjoining 250 acres owned by the US Forestry Service off our North Western border) and are likely to catch glimpses of turkey, beaver, deer, fox, eastern box turtle and the many species of songbird and raptor.

Newly constructed tiny home provides GLAMPING at its finest! The Liberty cabin shares a space with a few tent sites along the river. With the addition of Liberty, I have limited the number of campers to 4. (Exceptions may be made for holiday weekends). There is plenty of space for everyone and the cabin sits above the tent sites for amazing views and privacy.
While HWY 16 can be a bit noisy during busy times, step into the campsites and let the peaceful noise-canceling river serenity whisk you away. Forest views across the river with endless fireflies and stars that light up the night!
Zaloo's Canoes, Kayak, and Tubes is within eyesight and will set you up with an amazing float or paddle down river. Plentiful small mouth bass and trout fishing just steps from your site. Outhouse w/washing station. Fire pits at each site as well as a large communal fire pit and picnic tables.
Downtown West Jefferson is just 15 minutes away with local breweries, quaint restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, shopping, music, art, and a wonderful farmer's market from May - October.
The quaint little town of Lansing, NC is quickly becoming a favorite stop of mine. Check out the Old Orchard Creek General Store, Pie on the Mountain Pizza, the Old Orchard Creek Blueberry Farm, and Molly Chomper for a perfect day in Ashe County.
The New River State Park is an easy walk, float, paddle or drive away. This park is absolutely GORGEOUS and impeccably maintained, including hiking trails, public facilities, showers, boat launch and pick up, etc.
Just a short drive to multiple Blue Ridge Parkway entry points for ease of access to Boone, Appalachian State University, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, and the Linville Gorge.
Mount Jefferson and Grayson Highlands are also just a short drive away for unlimited hiking and incredible mountain views. My personal favorite is hiking with the wild ponies at Grayson Highlands!
We have Firewood available for a nominal fee. Just let us know and we will make arrangements to have it ready for you upon arrival.

Electricity/WiFi are available, there is NO running water at our property, but if you would like to shower in a comfortable setting there is a new YMCA in Spruce Pine which is about 20 minutes away and has a daily fee of 10.00 a day to shower up.
Get close with nature by relaxing in a hammock, sitting by the fire, or hiking the old logging roads on the property. There is a compost toilet and a Ring doorbell by front door for check in/security/safety, but it’s turned off upon arrival. * The other building you see in the photos is a shed that we use for storage. Ashe County is offers something for everyone. Beautiful hiking trails are as close or as far as you want to drive to get there. Downtown offers an experience in walking back in time with a small town feel that is unmatched. Delicious eating experiences are available from country cooking to fine dining.
Camp Karuga is also perfectly situated for traveling to Boone, Blowing Rock or Banner Elk without the exhaustion of a long drive. There is so many wonderful experiences around Camp Karuga that it will be hard to choose from.

While we don't have access to the pond, our part of this land still is calling out to people, 'Come, rest, unload your burdens, and find peace.'
When we started this project with Hipcamp, we didn't fully realize that we were reconnecting with the history on this property. So, come, take your shoes off, and wade in the creek. Read a book while laying in a hammock. Sit by the fire and chat with family and friends.
Come and participate in our little homesteading project, and leave your burdens behind.
LOCAL ACTIVITIES:
To the west is the Blue Ridge Parkway, which is 30 minutes away.
15 minutes away is Kerr Scott Dam where you can rent kayaks, pontoon boats, as well as other sporting equipment. Fish, go mountain biking on the extensive trails, and hiking.
Prayer Mountain is right up the road, about 2 miles away.
Heading east, you can find several fine wineries and vineyards that you can visit. There is also a moonshine distillery in town.
About a half hour away is an Amish community that has several businesses open to the public, including the Shiloh Bakery and General Store. They are closed on Sunday and Monday.
To the northeast, about 45 minutes away, is Stone Mountain. Absolutely fantastic hiking, it is also an old homestead that has been renovated and is open to the public.
To the south, there is Rocky Face Park, where there is hiking and rock climbing. Nearby, is Emerald Hollow Mine, where you can go and find, and keep, precious stones you find in the nearby river.
There is also a great disk course course, Highland Hills Disc Golf Course, one of the top 25 in the country. There is fun for all ages.
Merlefest, the last weekend of April, a world class Bluegrass festival, is located right in our town.

I moved here from San Francisco, to simplify my life, and accomplish my dreams. The Tiny house was designed and built by architect, Jesse Plaster. It's a unique cozy loft style design, set back in the woods on our property. It's purposely placed next to a creek, with a nice stone fire ring to really enjoy the outdoors. In the cold months, it's heated by a wood burning stove. Also next to the house are logging roads that allow you to hike the Ripshin Mountains. The Yadkin River is near by, and so is Boone and Blowing Rock. If you like mountain biking, bring your bike to ride Kerr Scott, or Zacks Fork trails. Also, check out the workshops at Pattersonschoolfoundation.org They offer sustainable living classes such as cheese making, mushroom foraging, blacksmithing, soap making, kimchi making, etc... Also ask about our private Yoga sessions. Last but not least, there is a wood burning private sauna that your able to reserve.Come enjoy our Happy Valley! Mi casa es su casa!

Weekend Trip to Tiny Cabin Near Grandfather Mt
The tiny cabin had everything 1-2 campers needed for a short stay: a comfy futon to sleep on, a fridge, a microwave, water, and a dry toilet. It was so quiet and peaceful, we enjoyed sleeping in and listening to the rain on the roof. Debra was responsive and welcoming - we would recommend this site to others :)

2 nights at Plumtree Campground Tents & Cabins
This cabin and site was a million times nicer than we expected!!! We expected a simple wooden box to keep us out of the rain and got a big cozy cabin complete with covered porch, lamp, and rocking chairs. We didn’t end up needing hardly any of the gear we brought. The bathhouse is literally right outside. There’s great WiFi that covers the entire campground. The pavilion with fire pit, picnic tables, lights, grills, and a whole smoker are just a short walk down the hill. The attendant was helpful and friendly. It was so quiet and peaceful. Even though there’s a ton of sites and cabins we really felt like we had our privacy. It was a fantastic experience, highly recommend!

Staying at Dennis’s A-frame was a wonderful experience! I loved how private and immersed in nature it felt, with the security of having quiet neighbors nearby but out of sight. The babbling brook was so soothing and the patter of rain on the metal roof one morning was so cozy. Finding some blackberries along the driveway was the cherry on top. Would definitely stay here again!

Little tricky to find in the dark - on the other side of the main road from the house; the gravel has some grass growing on it that made it a little hard to see. Look out for the port a potty and it’s right there!

A-Frame Cabin was cute and small. It provided everything to keep food cold and cook them. You only need to bring paper plates and utensils. Also bring your own towels and pillows.
The property is nice with the creek but it is not in middle of 15 acres. Just between the creek and side of mountain with private entrance and private driveway. You could see few houses and the road in next of the creek. It is very quiet in the neighborhood.
I only wish the property with cabin would have a short hiking trail to explore. I was very curious what was beyond the cabin.
The outback is okay and needs to be cleaned. There was very strong mold. And lots of webs!

Perfect tiny house to escape the noise. This quiet location has a beautiful babbling creek running alongside that was so peaceful to hear, especially with the crackling campfire at night. Natalie and Matthew are wonderful hosts, very responsive the entire time. The "Firefly" moniker was so fitting when we saw thousands and thousands of fireflies lighting up the surrounding area like twinkling Christmas lights all around. It was truly amazing to just get lost in the beauty of it all. The location is just right to get to dozens of cool Blue Ridge attractions within 20-30 mins. All in all we were so happy with our camping trip and highly recommend the Firefly Tiny House!

Rocky Face Camp hosted by Sarah was the perfect spot for our father/son camping trip. We had three dads and six boys, and the setup was exactly what we were looking for. Plenty of room to pitch tents, relax around camp, and enjoy time together when we weren’t out hiking the local trails.
The location was great — tucked away enough to feel like a true camping experience, but still conveniently located between Boone and Banner Elk so we could grab a hearty meal after a long day of hiking. The boys had an absolute blast, and the dads appreciated how peaceful and easy everything was.
If you’re looking for a family-friendly campsite with easy access to outdoor adventures and nearby mountain towns, we’d definitely recommend Rocky Face Camp.

This was such a cute place! The house was cute, there were dvd movies, an air mattress, and a french press! We cooked some steak on the grill. We also loved the incineration toilet. Loved the privacy and the creek. Kitchen utilities and cooking utensils supplied. Would totally stay here again. 😊

We loved our stay in the a-frame and wish we could have stayed more than one night. It was cozy and tucked away with a beautiful view of lush green forest. We had the entire place to ourselves which was magical and restorative. The mattress was also very comfortable which was a plus! Liz kindly also provided extra gear (blanket, bug spray, lamp) since we had flown in and didn’t have extra gear. She was so hospitable and generous during our brief stay. We kept the window-wall up all night and had a great night’s sleep in the fresh air!

Ocean Blue was great!! A true oasis in the wilds of western NC! We asked Kevin, the host, for some area info, and he sent more great ideas for things to do in the area than we could do during this one short trip, and I've lived here for 30 or more years, so I know about most of the "first time here and have already been there" places in the North Carolina Mountains.
The arched cabin was wonderful, fun, and unusual. The headliner of our stay at Ocean Blue was the night sky!!!
