We just retired from Active Duty Air Force! My ancestors have owned the land our NC cabins sit on since 1836. In fact, my mother grew up there after my Grandfather returned from WWII when there was no electricity and the outhouse was a bench over the creek. I grew up hiking the mountains with my brothers and our BB guns and my Uncle Frank at our family reunions. In 2005 he deeded us a parcel of land and we built our first cabin - Smawlie. We love to come to the cabin and Hike the trails on our own property, and of course, the world famous ones that join them, namely the Bartram and the Appalachian Trails. As you explore the lake, the trails, the rivers, and the mountain roads you'll see why our ancestors settled here. In 2018 - we bought the remainder of Uncle Frank's land - and in his honor built our second cabin - Frank's Landing. Also in that year I started managing my brother Bill's cabin. When we were stationed in Alaska for 6 heavenly years - we purchased a remote parcel of property and have slowly begun to develop it. We just completed building our cabin there. When you go to sleep, there's no light except the moon and stars, no refrigerator or central heating or air conditioning noise -- only the sounds of nature -- the stream, crickets or frogs in the nearby pond, dogs or coyotes in the distance. Without the glow of a nearby city, the hot tub on a clear night, the skies are dazzling. Speaking of which, the wood-fired hot tub is made by a company called Snorkel. It's perfect for 2 and can fit 3, although tight. It's Japanese style hot tub bathing, meaning no chemicals. Also, since we're not grid tied, it relies on a firebox heating fresh spring water, which you fill it with. It takes approx. 35 minutes to fill the tub and between 3 and 3.5 hours to heat (longer when it's really cold!). There's a thermometer in it, so as it gets closer to your liking (don't let it get over 102 degrees), let the existing logs burn down, choke off the air vent sleeve and hop in. With no pump sounds and the stars above, it's incomparable. The $50 fee (per 2 night rentals) covers thorough cleaning between guests and split firewood. You will be very comfortable in Little Good Egg, even in extreme weather, simply by paying attention and taking more time for simple tasks. It sounds corny, but there is a meditative quality to thinking and doing things like heating water, keeping warm, staying hydrated, eating well and choosing to do what you really want. I'm always amazed how busy I am -- and how different this kind of busy feels -- without electronics and my technological "time savers." Odd as it sounds to say this, it's stunning and wonderful to go "offline," even for just a day, and not get hit by little chirps and incoming messages that seem to arrive now 24/7. Note: Since we opened in October, 2014, guest reviews consistently tell us us best thing about staying at Good Egg is being off the grid and the treadmill of modern life, unplugging from the dominant culture and experiencing oneself as humans did 100 years ago and more. Whether it’s the absence of electricity (in the cabin), the quiet of the country, no city glow in the night sky, or the once common experience of the natural world dominating over human-made or human-crafted things, it’s astonishing for many of us to see and feel and experience without constant communications via text and email and the distractions of modern life. Many people write that they’ve learned an enormous amount about themselves, about homesteading or permaculture, and about alternate ways of being. Weekend Trip to Tiny Home Way

This cabin was the perfect mountain escape—quiet, tucked into a ravine, and surrounded by winding roads and beautiful views. We arrived late Friday, please note when arriving in the dark it may be a bit hard to find but for us it just added to the laughs. There was no signal out near the cabin, so it took a bit of teamwork, but we got it figured out. Saturday was all about the outdoors: breakfast at Bear Necessities Café, then hiking Amicalola Falls (about 40 mins away, but again we appreciated the drive through the mountains and we're not rushed to do anything). We tackled the 425+ stairs at the falls, and tag-teamed carrying our dog, who absolutely refused the metal steps 😂. Sunday’s rain slowed things down in the best way—gold mine tour, incredible Mediterranean food at Pharaoh’s Feast, then soaking in the hot tub and ending each night with a campfire. Peaceful, cozy, and dog-friendly. Couldn’t ask for more.

1 night at Tiny Home Way

This was a perfect weekend getaway! We only stayed a single night, but this tiny gem is equipped with everything you need. Beautiful setting, even in winter. We weren't concerned but we were wondering how well heated the cabin would be. When we woke in the morning it was 24F, feels like 9F, and we had had a toasty night. Blankets provided were perfect. Space heater was excellent. The floor and bottom level were cooler, but the heat rising to the sleeping loft necessitated turning on the fan to circulate and ease a bit of stuffiness, as crazy as that is. And the hot tub was blessedly HOT, even in the freezing weather. Towels provided. We thoroughly enjoyed a bit of stargazing even with the string lights lit. We wished we had remembered our firewood. The fire pit by the creek is so inviting, with log formed benches and a bar height one for ease with refreshments. It was still a great coffee spot in the morning. Jodi and her team are excellent communicators. I was able to consult with them about some of the forest roads in the area as we wanted to do the short day hike to the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. MAJOR TIP: approach the parking lot from the north/west direction on the forest service road. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Excellent. 10/10. The house is clean and very well maintained. It’s super cozy. Hot tub worked great, blankets available for hanging outside. Stocked kitchen. Plenty of towels. Right on the water on fairly flat land. Had everything we needed. Will definitely stay again. Host is friendly and super responsive. Can’t wait to visit again as Franklin is an excellent place for a short vacation. Great places to eat and shopping within a short distance. My only complaint is that the beds are small, hard to tell if they were fulls or queens. No King bed (which is what I’m used to). Also no full-length mirrors. But otherwise, we loved it and will definitely be back.

Amazing little cabin! Very clean and well thought out design. My son and I stayed for the weekend and loved the rushing creek right from the huge back covered patio. We also really enjoyed the clean hot tub. There was plenty of seclusion and privacy even with renters in the treehouse next door. We will definitely stay here again!

We had a wonderful time staying at Private Glamping w/ Outdoor Shower at Private Glamper/HOT TUB/MNTN VIEWS. Our hosts were so kind and thoughtful, and the setup was excellent and had everything one needs for a very comfortable and memorable glamping experience. The hot tub was definitely a highlight for us. Despite a sudden cold front coming in, the camper was always at a comfortable temperature and we never felt cold at night, even with outside temperatures dropping below freezing. Thank you again to our generous hosts for a great stay in this little oasis in Bryson City. We look forward to visiting again.

4 nights at Glamping Domes & A-Frame

The view is the star of the show. Add a hot tub and fire pit and that’s a bonus. Inside is very comfortable and cozy. The kitchen setup was adequate. It could use a toaster/counter top convection oven. The grill outside worked well however. Also the fridge was a good size for the 4 nights we stayed. Google maps ends short of your destination so getting there was a bit confusing. We were lucky Ravi was on sight to escort us. Hopefully better signage will be added. The road is a bit rough but manageable for the last 1/4 mile or so. Again, once there, it’s all about the view and the isolation. Shower was roomy and nice. The bed was huge and comfy. The geo-domes were close but it all felt private enough and our neighbors were quiet. It’s close to the Smokies which was our draw but not much else. Fine by us as we didn’t even leave the premises for a day and a half. Did I mention the view?

This place is absolutely beautiful. Waking up to a sunrise over Appalachia is worth it on its own. The dome is well maintained, clean, and the area is super quiet and safe. It's an amazing place to relax in the hot tub and stargaze, play some games at the outdoor table, or just sit by the fire pit to talk and enjoy the scenery. There are two fire pits - a private metal one on the deck and a large communal area between the domes. There's also hiking and walking trails a short drive away in the Smokies (like Mouse Creek Falls). Ravi is super friendly and responsive to messages. We met him on our way out when he came up to do maintenance. He takes good care of this place. There are a few turns that are hard to see, so definitely arrive when it's daylight. If you use Waze, keep going up and around after it thinks you've "arrived".

I have to say, this was hands-down the best organized, cleanest, easiest, most amenity-laden cabin I’ve ever rented. So many details, from the embroidered robes to the bound book of instructions and recommendations. From the kitchen appointments to the coffee. There are really too many amazing little things to list here, but you could really tell the owners absolutely care about the experience their property provides. And we went panning for gold in the creek below the back deck and even found a little! It was incredibly comfortable and lots of fun. Just make sure you’re ok with stairs and aren’t too large to fit the spiral to the loft. I honestly cannot think of a single improvement to make. Didn’t even matter that it rained so much, because there was plenty left to do inside.

Weekend Trip to Private Glamper/HOT TUB/MNTN VIEWS

Picture this: Wake up in your cozy camper (very clean and comfortable bed) and hop in the hot tub (extra towels included), take a hot outdoor shower surrounded by fall leaves and head down into Bryson City for some coffee and breakfast. After that, spend the day hiking in the Smokeys, come back into town to explore some shops and breweries, then head back to your cozy trailer for a fire and to soak some more in the hot tub. That was our exact experience- even though it was about 50 degrees and raining by the evening, that actually made everything even more fun, hot tub included. This site is so unique, convenient, and well designed. You can tell the host takes pride in making it a perfect stay for everyone, with attention to detail (like putting out a Halloween themed basket with Kurig pods). She even refunded money for firewood we didn’t use. One note: the hot tub was set at 95 when we arrived, and after a few hours was only 97 even though we set it to 104. It took overnight to get up to temperature, but after that it stayed hot and we got plenty of use out of it.
