Black Barn Farm

Welcome to our little piece of heaven! Our property offers a variety of activities for you to enjoy and a variety of camping options. Set up camp in a tent, car, bus or RV, or stay in one of our primitive dry camping cabins. All camp areas are private from our home, with a porta potty and well water available. Please be aware-we are a working farm. There is sometimes noise and if you are sensitive bring earplugs, headphones, etc... The ducks chatter and talk the night away, the dogs do bark if Bambi-Baloo-Thumper or their chicken siblings hang too close to the pens. We have wildlife here! Owls, coyotes, bear and deer some are more musical than others. Please be aware! Never put your hands where you can't see! North Carolina has several poisonous snakes and although we don't see them often, we are playing in their playground-the great outdoors. It's Spring! Eggs are getting laid, and chicks will be hatching. If you are interested in coming to see chicks send me a message and I might be able to give you a timeline for your camp dates. There are MANY things to do in our area that are low cost to free, which is an added plus for any families coming to visit! Just ask me and I'll give you suggestions depending on your budget. Plenty of stuff for grown-ups too! Walmart Express is less than three miles away and Walmart Supercenter is less than five miles away. Smithfields BBQ, Chinese and Bojangles are close by. There is a wonderful Mexican restaurant,: El Mexicano and Pizza/subs place that will deliver campside too! If you love the ocean, the beach is just a short distance away. Hikers will love the nearby trails and abundant hiking options from pocosin (bogs) swamps to the Mountain to Sea Trail. Our property is perfect for outdoor adventure and exploration. If you prefer a more relaxing stay, you can stay on our property and enjoy a refreshing swim in our pond or cozy up by a campfire. Bring your s'mores gear to belly up to a picnic table. Birdwatching is a popular activity here as we are a family-run bird farm with a variety of feathered friends including ducks, chickens, guineas, geese, and even an emu or two! We have recently added baby goats and also have cows. Napoleon and Rosie are Dwarf pygmies and Brielle is a New Zealand Kiko. Napoleon, Elle and Rosie love children and kids are welcome to come visit them under the supervision of Miss Jennifer. Fresh eggs are available for breakfast, straight from our farm to your plate. We offer mini tours of the animals when we feed up and kids like to help gather eggs. Just reserve the "Feeding time" and a head count. We are passionate about birds and love to share our knowledge with our guests. The porta toilet is located at the end of the emu pen and well water is available in front of the barn. Any vehicle over 6' will have to enter/exit on West (left) side of the pond due to low clearance. Cold water shower available. (Let me define...high tech redneck style; a hose with multi option spigot.) Our property is also conveniently located near the historic towns of Beaufort and New Bern, perfect for a day trip. There are nearby stores and farmers markets where you can get fresh veggies, and we are always willing to suggest places to go. You can also visit Fort Macon, Hammocks Beach, Carteret County Speedway, the NC Aquarium, local farms, live music at The Gardens and more. Go see a local mud bog on Saturday nights or check out the local Bogue Sound distillery and fabulous seafood restaurants, which is just a short drive away. Bring your boat because we have plenty of space to park and can direct you to whichever type of waterway you want to be on. There are nearby private fishing charters, horseback riding and ferry adventures to go see the ponies. Better yet go visit the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort and get inspired to sign up to build your own boat. They offer excellent sea themed classes for the children during the summer. Sign up early because they fill up fast. Just one of our neat local treasures. Come have an assisted outdoor oyster roast! You go pick up your fresh local oysters (in season) from people we can recommend, and we can help walk you thru the "how to". We will have all you need: pot, burner, knives, new condiments and table ready to go so all you have to do is cook eat and enjoy! Go clamming! We can provide you with all you need to go get your dinner! (in season) Rake, floating bucket, a hat and the knowledge of where and when to go. A boat or kayak is recommended. We do have a kayaks available with a deposit to take it offsite. This is bookable through the extras. We know people/locations to get you going for beach fishing, kayaking, hunting, and tons more. Don't forget there are many festivals, parades and floatillas nearby to enjoy. Mumfest in New Bern is always awesome and don't forget the NC Seafood Festival. During Winter carriage rides can be arranged through historical New Bern. We are open year-round, and Wintertime is a delight at the beach. Come visit us during the holiday season to enjoy the lights and cuddle up to a cozy campfire. The cabins are heated by propane, and we can have a tank ready for you when you arrive for an extra charge. A single 20 lb tank typically lasts four days. Andy's Trout Farm and Cabins

Andy's Trout Farm opened to the public in 1965. It was founded and developed by Andy and Hazel Cope, with some help from their family. In the late 1950's, while Andy was operating a service station in Dillard, GA, many travelers inquired about places to fish and camp. The Copes used some mountain land, which they owned in the Betty's Creek Community, to develop Betty's Creek Recreation Area! Later, they changed the name to Andy's Trout Farm and built rental cabins along the stream. They had found the ideal spot to raise rainbow trout . The cold mountain stream flowing from the mountains of North Carolina into Betty's Creek provided the water needed. It took the family several months to get a hatchery in operation for hatching, and ponds built for growing the trout. They began running the fish farm and selling trout that were caught from the catch-out ponds. They dressed the catch and even had a restaurant across the road from the fishing office! In 1968 Andy and Hazel Cope were granted the "Farm Family of the Year Awards"- in both North Carolina and Georgia!

Raven Ridge

He married in 2015 and has three Daughters with Sofi, originally from Sweden. Together they manage a botanically interesting hobby hill farm and are happy to host travelers and seekers in their cabins. Hilltop was a joint project that James built in 2012 with a talented woodworker and friend in 6 months of saturday for less than $5k. We have maintained the original vibe of the place, rustic simplicity and elegance a notch or two above glamping, well-described by the zen koan, "chop wood, carry water" Orchard House was built entirely by James from the block up to the roof, averaging 1 hour/day for 3 years or 1,000 hours. Some of the Hilltop photos are a bit dated, we have a more private outhouse behind the cabin, and have made a few improvements here and there. Reach out anytime for any reason ! The Cabins at Sandy Mush Bald

Our Trailhead is located 45 minutes west of Asheville, NC and the hike-in trail leading up to our cabins and campsites is 2 miles long with 1,250 feet of elevation gain. The trail utilizes an old forest service road that parallels Bald Branch offering guests verdant landscapes and soothing sounds as they make their way up the mountain to our cabins and campsites which sit in the Saddle between Little and Big Sandy Mush Bald at an elevation of 5,000 feet. We have two antique Appalachian cabins on-site and two top-tier campsites available for guests. Our cabins and campsites are priced per person and can be reserved individually or collectively through our entire property buyout option for large groups, corporate retreats, weddings and events. A hearty and healthy breakfast is served each morning in our Main Lodge and is included with your stay and you'll never pay a cleaning fee on this mountain because we believe in Southern hospitality! Our Main Lodge (Cabin #1) has a sprawling front porch with spectacular views, a nicely appointed off-grid kitchen, full bathroom with hot shower and an upstairs loft that sleeps up to 10 guests. Our on-site host/s stay downstairs in the Main Lodge in their own bedrooms so they can keep the home fires burning, tend the garden, cook breakfast, clean the cabins and ensure that all your needs are taken care of during your stay. Cabin #2 also features a full bathroom with and a tree-house like view from the front porch! Our cabin adjacent camp space features two spectacular campsites and is located 100’ from our Main Lodge (Cabin #1). Camp 1 and Camp 2 measure 12 feet by 15 feet and feature a soft grassy surface that is surrounded by natural boulder walls. Both campsites sit beside our neighboring property owned by the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy and feature a long-range mountain view that overlooks our lower meadow. Guests at our campsites are welcomed to breakfast daily and have full access to the restroom facilities in the Main Lodge. The Cabins at Sandy Mush Bald were the dream of our founder, John “Doc” Adler, who wished to create a hike-in facility that provided a sense of hard-earned awe just like he found on the Appalachian Trail and at other infamous hike-in facilities. After acquiring the acreage he and his crew endeavored to bring that dream to life with their bare hands as they constructed an homage to the Appalachian history, culture, and architecture that Doc loved so dearly. Pucker Up Berry Farm

Since taking ownership, we have established a small farm and berry orchard to supply customers with high antioxidant fruits, vegetables, and berries. Hipcampers will enjoy the morning and evening chatter of birds, gorgeous mountain sunsets, and easy access to local forests, trails, and restaurants. Learn more about this land: Campers can expect a mountainside view, landscaped gardens, a berry orchard, farm art, and a gallery of bird sounds and sightings throughout your stay. Enjoy beautiful sunset views from above the orchard. The space feels friendly and welcoming! Your campsite includes numerous tent spots, a large fire pit, four wooden adirondack chairs, four plastic adirondack chairs, a 16x16 covered kitchen space with electricity, a mini fridge, cooking supplies, a picnic table, an outhouse, an outdoor shower, and a large space for outdoor games. A chicken pen and a few trees line the upper part of the site. The flower and vegetable gardens are above the campsite, and the 150' x 200' orchard extends up into the woods/mountainside. Guests are encouraged explore the orchard, gardens, and orchard perimeter throughout their stay. It is important for our guests to get an experience. We encourage you to pick a flower and put it in your hair. Or, maybe you want to cut a whole vase full of bright showy flowers and learn the components of a complete arrangement ($25/ in season guided tour). You should definitely harvest a head (or two!) of lettuce for a large salad at the picnic table. Ever caught a chicken? We want you to ask for the experience you desire. Welcome to our little piece of heaven! Our property offers a variety of activities for you to enjoy and a variety of camping options. Set up camp in a tent, car, bus or RV, or stay in one of our primitive dry camping cabins. All camp areas are private from our home, with a porta potty and well water available. Please be aware-we are a working farm. There is sometimes noise and if you are sensitive bring earplugs, headphones, etc... The ducks chatter and talk the night away, the dogs do bark if Bambi-Baloo-Thumper or their chicken siblings hang too close to the pens. We have wildlife here! Owls, coyotes, bear and deer some are more musical than others. Please be aware! Never put your hands where you can't see! North Carolina has several poisonous snakes and although we don't see them often, we are playing in their playground-the great outdoors. It's Spring! Eggs are getting laid, and chicks will be hatching. If you are interested in coming to see chicks send me a message and I might be able to give you a timeline for your camp dates. There are MANY things to do in our area that are low cost to free, which is an added plus for any families coming to visit! Just ask me and I'll give you suggestions depending on your budget. Plenty of stuff for grown-ups too! Walmart Express is less than three miles away and Walmart Supercenter is less than five miles away. Smithfields BBQ, Chinese and Bojangles are close by. There is a wonderful Mexican restaurant,: El Mexicano and Pizza/subs place that will deliver campside too! If you love the ocean, the beach is just a short distance away. Hikers will love the nearby trails and abundant hiking options from pocosin (bogs) swamps to the Mountain to Sea Trail. Our property is perfect for outdoor adventure and exploration. If you prefer a more relaxing stay, you can stay on our property and enjoy a refreshing swim in our pond or cozy up by a campfire. Bring your s'mores gear to belly up to a picnic table. Birdwatching is a popular activity here as we are a family-run bird farm with a variety of feathered friends including ducks, chickens, guineas, geese, and even an emu or two! We have recently added baby goats and also have cows. Napoleon and Rosie are Dwarf pygmies and Brielle is a New Zealand Kiko. Napoleon, Elle and Rosie love children and kids are welcome to come visit them under the supervision of Miss Jennifer. Fresh eggs are available for breakfast, straight from our farm to your plate. We offer mini tours of the animals when we feed up and kids like to help gather eggs. Just reserve the "Feeding time" and a head count. We are passionate about birds and love to share our knowledge with our guests. The porta toilet is located at the end of the emu pen and well water is available in front of the barn. Any vehicle over 6' will have to enter/exit on West (left) side of the pond due to low clearance. Cold water shower available. (Let me define...high tech redneck style; a hose with multi option spigot.) Our property is also conveniently located near the historic towns of Beaufort and New Bern, perfect for a day trip. There are nearby stores and farmers markets where you can get fresh veggies, and we are always willing to suggest places to go. You can also visit Fort Macon, Hammocks Beach, Carteret County Speedway, the NC Aquarium, local farms, live music at The Gardens and more. Go see a local mud bog on Saturday nights or check out the local Bogue Sound distillery and fabulous seafood restaurants, which is just a short drive away. Bring your boat because we have plenty of space to park and can direct you to whichever type of waterway you want to be on. There are nearby private fishing charters, horseback riding and ferry adventures to go see the ponies. Better yet go visit the NC Maritime Museum in Beaufort and get inspired to sign up to build your own boat. They offer excellent sea themed classes for the children during the summer. Sign up early because they fill up fast. Just one of our neat local treasures. Come have an assisted outdoor oyster roast! You go pick up your fresh local oysters (in season) from people we can recommend, and we can help walk you thru the "how to". We will have all you need: pot, burner, knives, new condiments and table ready to go so all you have to do is cook eat and enjoy! Go clamming! We can provide you with all you need to go get your dinner! (in season) Rake, floating bucket, a hat and the knowledge of where and when to go. A boat or kayak is recommended. We do have a kayaks available with a deposit to take it offsite. This is bookable through the extras. We know people/locations to get you going for beach fishing, kayaking, hunting, and tons more. Don't forget there are many festivals, parades and floatillas nearby to enjoy. Mumfest in New Bern is always awesome and don't forget the NC Seafood Festival. During Winter carriage rides can be arranged through historical New Bern. We are open year-round, and Wintertime is a delight at the beach. Come visit us during the holiday season to enjoy the lights and cuddle up to a cozy campfire. The cabins are heated by propane, and we can have a tank ready for you when you arrive for an extra charge. A single 20 lb tank typically lasts four days. Light a luminary to float on the pond to make your New Year begin just right even just for a special occasion! We ask that no one smokes inside the cabins for the safety of yourself and allergies to other campers. Thank you in advance and please police your butts. We try to keep the area tidy. There are trash cans by #4 and #5 also the large dumpster behind the barn. Please do not feed anything to our birds! Each species has a specialized diet and just one food item wrong could kill them. PLEASE NOTE, our rate is based on the number of vehicles in your group. The first vehicle is included in the nightly rate and admits 4 campers. WE CHARGE FOR ADDITIONAL CARS. The charge will be added to your booking once you select the number of vehicles at checkout. Please note that each additional car admits four campers. For EXAMPLE, 2 cars = 8 campers total. If you only have two cars but more than eight people, YOU MUST select the "Extra Person" Extra for each night they are camping. Please select these extras at checkout. We now raise the wooly Mangalitsa pig and sell to the best chefs and restaurants. We sell our pork at the farm too! All of our campsites are next to running water except the two hilltop sites. Two porta-potties are on the farm and private porta-potties are available for rent. Groups of eight or more are required to rent a porta potty should you not bring your own toilet system with you. We do not allow the use of our small wooded areas as toilets. Please review the Extras options as we offer river lifts, firewood and dog stays; thank you! Quiet hours are from 10pm to 9am. Checking in before 5 pm is requested. Later times may be available with prior arrangements. Our farm is very dark and navigating at night is difficult. Please contact Catherine directly so you can be checked in safely and accommodate your schedule. NO CHECK-INS AFTER DARK. We are 1 mile off of I 40, 17 minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, 15 min. to Maggie Valley, 10 min to the Elk at Cataloochee, 25 min to Cataloochee ski area, 10 min to Lake Junaluska and 15 min to downtown Waynesville. Asheville is 20 miles to our East.
