1 night at BeaverWood Farm (no children)

Five Stars !! If you love animals or are just looking for a terrific camping spot near Bethel Woods, BeaverWood Farms is terrific. We had a lovely night's stay and look forward to returning. Farmer Paul and Marylin are terrific hosts. Awesome communication, terrific check-in process and very easy to find. Our rig is a Class B Campervan and it worked out just fine. We stayed at one of the campsites with a view of the lake. The $20 for a shelf of firewood was a super deal. A great night of camping. The animals are so friendly and make for great camping companions !! Thanks Paul & Marylin !!!!

It was a pretty cute little spot, the creek was probably the best part, we loved sitting beside it. The little shelter made the rain even better, we stayed inside the tent and listened to the rain while My husband played guitar

Super friendly hosts, send information ahead of time about the grounds, greet you at the door. And most importantly truly a beautiful camp ground with 100s of animals just running around. Cows, geese, goats, sheep, pigs, donkey, chickens and plenty of others I didn’t mention. Got to meet a baby calf that was born during our stay! Outdoor shower works perfectly fine with hotish water. They provide firewood and if the outhouse isn’t to your liking there is even a flushing toilet that can be used by the entrance of the grounds. Just the fact that you can wander around the grounds petting animals is so amazing. Felt like we got to stay in our own petting zoo. Would absolutely go back and recommend.

It wasn't busy when I went, off season. It was peaceful and the owner was friendly and funny. I would highly recommend this place, but bring your rubber boots. I usually camp at state parks because I'm disabled and very much a flatlander, but this place was so much better than a state park. I went to 2 state parks after I left and I was sorry I left this magical place! I should have stayed. The state parks were packed full of kids who constantly trashed all the bathrooms, ugh. Ill take farm animals over that any day. I was able to sleep in!

2 nights at Triple Creek

Camping at triple creek was absolutely beautiful and very private. Stephen was a warm host and directions were clear. Hiking in the area was excellent.

3 nights at Hippie Havens: A Groovy Retreat

Hippie Havens was an AMAZING find. Shaggy and Kendra are really friendly and welcoming. Their dog Taj got along very well with our dog and us. Just an all around cool vibe. The cabin was immaculately prepared and the attention to detail was great. The multicolored wifi controlled lights were a cool touch. We mentioned it was a birthday for one of us, and they had it prepared with an adorable birthday card, balloon, and some friendship bracelets. Honestly, the additional touches were over the top. The s'mores are a must get. The sauna was a big plus and definitely relaxing. All in all this place is amazing, and we will be back. We've already booked our second trip.

We loved our stay on the farm! Our dogs did too. The hosts are amazing people; very welcoming and thoughtful with custom maps of getting around the property and the town. We were the first guests to use the incredible outdoor shower for the season. 10/10 would recommend a hot shower with lake views. The outhouses were also immaculate. You have the option of compost or flushing toilet. The animals on the farm were very chill. The like being pet so don’t be afraid. Can’t wait to visit again when the new baby animals are born!

stayed once again (third time!!) and it was my first time solo camping, I felt incredibly comfortable and safe, even in the middle of the night. 10/10 trip once again! Paul and Marilyn were awesome as always, and the animals were so great. I will be back at least 3 more times this year!! if you like animals, book your trip asap!

This was my first Hip Camp stay. The land was as advertised (great open and private property, friendly cows, and a great view). The weather turn out for the worse on our weekend but as seasoned campers we made the best of it. My friend and I talked about coming back at some point with the family and make a bigger trip out of it.

The hosts were amazing to work with. They know their animals and take good care of them. The sites are clean and you have good space to roam. They property is well kept and everything is exactly as described. This would be a great place for novice campers (meeeeeee) or seasoned campers, looking to test out new gear in different climates while having a great experience and being safe. I would definitely be interested in seeing if this place has long-term camping arrangements!!! 10/10!!! We fed EVERYONE, it was awesome. They were friendly before the food. But!!! The animals came running once we broke out the bagels and old bread we got from a bagel shop for super cheap!!! We woke up to sheep and a mini cow at the door. The chickens and goats came later. The big cows were sooooooo sweet! Enjoy your time here and leave the world behind for a little while. I cant stress how positive this was.

Love Love Love. Very beautiful, peaceful and private place. We had some cool visitors such a fox, owls, coyotes and of course the cows!!! Beautiful sunset and views. We enjoyed local hiking spots and attractions.

There are 40 acres here to explore with small streams, wetlands and forests. Overview

The Hudson Valley village of Walden is just an hour and a half north of New York City, making it an easy escape from the city. Surrounded by the gentle rolling hills of the Great Appalachian Valley and the Hudson Highlands to the southwest, it’s an attractive place to spend a while. Visitors will find plenty to do in the village’s surroundings, from visiting contemporary art galleries and sculpture parks to hiking in the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve. Those who want to set up camp will find plenty of nearby options.

Where to go

Beacon

Just a 20-minute drive east over the Hudson from Walden, Beacon is famed as the home of the contemporary art gallery Dia: Beacon and home to a number of galleries, boutiques and antique stores. Another 25 minutes east of Beacon, Fahnestock State Park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts who can hike, bird, boat, fish, and set up camp at the seasonal Fahnestock State Park Campground.

Cornwall-on-Hudson

A 25-minute drive south of Walden takes you to the outdoor sculpture park, Storm King Art Centre, named for nearby Storm King Mountain. You can spend all your time here wandering around the sprawling, 500-acre park, but don’t miss hiking in the pristine Storm King State Park nearby.

Poughkeepsie

Heading 40 minutes northeast out of Walden, the city of Poughkeepsie is home to Hudson Valley's most unique state park. The 1.28-mile Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park spans the Hudson River and is the world's longest elevated pedestrian bridge, offering excellent views of the Hudson Valley.

Bear Mountain

A 40-minute drive south of Walden, Bear Mountain State Park offers hiking, biking and cross-country ski trails as well as river fishing access. Adjacent to Bear Mountain is Harriman State Park with 31 lakes, two beaches, 200 miles of trails and camping at primitive Beaver Pond Campground.

When to go

Spring and summer are the ideal times to visit to enjoy the trails and water activities on offer in the Hudson Valley. However, given the area’s proximity to New York City, you should expect crowds in the peak summer season, especially on weekends and holidays. September and October can also get busy with visitors arriving to see the vibrant colors of fall foliage while winters offer skiing and snowshoeing. Note that some popular attractions in the area, such as Storm Mountain Art Center, close in winter.
