The cabin was built with respect for the environment. We constructed it with locally harvested and milled lumber and approached the build with minimal impact on the surrounding forest. The cabin is off grid and uses a small solar panel which charges a battery for the water heater and a light. We utilize rain water for the shower and sink which collects in a large tank. A step up from glamping, the "Shack" is a rustic, bohemian 2-story cabin/ art studio on a property that was formerly a train station. The property has 3 cottages on it and is situated across the street from Cayuga Lake in a secret wild garden, but is a 6 minute drive to downtown Ithaca Commons.
This cottage is not for everyone. It is a cheap option in a cute, very bare bones cottage. It is best suited for low maintenance, easy travelers who are looking for an inexpensive place to crash after a long day of exploring.
Guests who stay in the Shack share the bathroom in the main house with me - the bathroom has a separate entrance from the one I use in the main house.
The cabin consists of 2 rooms - the upstairs has a double sized futon and a single futon mattress that can be used for guests, and the downstairs is a lounge/studio area.
Note that the bedroom is accesses via a ladder type staircase. Definitely not everyone's cup of tea, but for the right fit it is the perfect home base to explore Ithaca's many spenders, ideally located across the street from Stewart Park and the trailhead to the Cayuga Waterfront Trail. and a short walk to the Stewart Park/downtown bus line and the East Shore swimming beach.
Note, there is a cat who lives on the property and he sometimes comes to visit this studio. I see guests inviting him in occasionally to visit. If you're allergic, this isn't a good option for you.

About the Property: Our unique property boasts quiet camping on a beautifully manicured MotoTrials Riding and Obstacle Play Course. 2025 marked our first year offering camping to the public, and we look forward to HipCampers joining us in our unique venue. All 4 camping sites are nestled into the Obstacle course. Trials riders and non-Trials Riders alike will find much to enjoy here. Campers unfamiliar with Trial are welcome to take advantage of a Lesson on one of our Rental Bikes, while the Obstacle Course is also super-fun on foot (for walks or runs), mountain bike, trials bicycle, or for playing with your RC toy! We have night lighting to turn on at your request, even if just to sit in the evening and enjoy the lights reflecting off the pond-We surely do! We are located on NY 38 but our traffic is not obnoxious (Log and Milk Trucks, Farm Tractors and Commuters). It is very peaceful here. Your camping can be as private, quiet and leisurely as you wish. The views and big sky are gorgeous in our corner of farm country. Our small pond (tho not suitable for fishing or swimming) provides entertainment w/ turtle sunbathing raft and lots of nature's visitors. Pets always welcome off-leash with your guidance. About the Trials Riding: Sundays are a practice day or Event day. We host 4 Mototrial Events each season (see below) and if spectating appeals, you can plan your trip to coincide. You're in for a treat if you've never seen these nimble motorcycles do their 'thing'... up, over, and around the obstacles. Events are busy and exciting, but no worries (!) trials bikes are not loud. Riders are friendly and considerate. If spectating not your thing- no worries. Non-event/non-practice days are quite laidback. If Trials riders come here for additional practice (or instruction) it's not loud or invasive, nor interferes with any camper training or play on the course. When riders are here (barring Events or Sunday Practice ), it's typically only 2-4 at once. Multiple activities co-exist nicely, as there is plenty of room for all. There are many days no one is on the course at all (!) and you may have it all to yourself or possibly with another camper. Hope to see you in our slice of heaven! Again, our property features a swimming pool, hiking trails, a small organic garden and activities such as archery, boating and more for guests. Many of these activities require staff to facilitate, so please make your actvity requests well in advance!

This is a beautiful piece of property located in the heart of the Finger Lakes and Wine Country of NY. It features a stunning spring fed waterfall and nice forest land. Very close to town but also very secluded and private. Great place to unwind and relax from our everyday lives. It is situated however in a gully next to a creek and waterfall so it is susceptible to heavy rains. It is recommended to at least have an AWD vehicle if rainy. I can usually help campers with getting to the site in my side X side if you need to park up at the pasture. Please order enough wood initially as I have found I spend a lot of time delivering extra wood to campers. It seems as if you will typically go through 2 bundles per night on average. Also I supply a contractor size garbage bag to you if you choose garbage removal. It is also a good idea to text me when you have a solid ETA so I can be here to take you to the site. I want to mention that the two sites closest to the waterfall are a slight hike in and can only accommodate up to 4 person tents so if a bigger group or vehicle camping you will be placed at another site. This secluded and private 23 acre site is situated in a scenic valley surrounded by Hammond Hill and Yellow Barn State Forests. The campsite is easily accessible from the driveway with opportunities for tent camping under the stars and luxurious cozy camping in a 30ft travel trailer. I loved staying in Marie's cabin! It's rustic but had everything I needed for a cozy night. When I arrived, she gave me a tour of her beautiful farm and showed me all the animals. Having the pond right in front of the cabin makes for a very peaceful atmosphere. There are lots of trails to explore, horses to pet and peace and quiet to enjoy. Thanks again for the warm welcome and a lovely stay!

Two cabins were completely clean, theres a great grill, fireplace and access to the lake/creek. Many great attractions nearby, and Susan was very responsive throughout the whole process. Spot was also easy to find, and there were plates/bowls, utensils and other tools on site.

Love this place so much that I come to visit even when I don't have a full 24 hours to spend! Perfect place for an evening campfire, a night in my hammock in the hayloft listening to the chorus of spring peepers in the pond and endless cups of coffee as the sun rises. Throw in the best hosts that you could ask for and you've got the PERFECT home-away-from-home overnight destination!

It was so gorgeous, a perfect combo of remote but still a reasonable distance from town if you need cell service or supplies. The creek next to the cabin was so beautiful and fun to romp around, and there's even a small waterfall in the back, so cool!! It's right on the border of one of the state parks for easy access if you're a hiker, but it's also perfect if you prefer to linger in a nice spot and take it in.
Amenities were great for what we wanted, it didnt feel like "glamping" (we didn't want to glamp) but it still had everything we needed to be comfortable. It rained and the temp fluxed on and off during the trip so the heater and stove were lifesavers.
The outhouse might have been the cleanest I've ever used, which is strange to say but important -- the wood looked fresh, it had a toilet seat and I wasn't afraid of animals/bugs hanging out in the corners or in the toilet! 😂
There's a generator for electricity if needed but we didn't really bother with it (personal choice). He provides a solid amount cleaning and drinking water which we were pleasantly surprised by (still be responsible and bring some of your own).
It was so nice that we decided to stay an extra day! I needed to go to town to message him on the app to get it set up since there's no cell service at the site and thankfully he responded almost immediately so I didn't have to wait around town. He gave great recommendations and seems genuinely happy when people respect appreciate the area. Will reccomend

For anyone who wants a true disconnect this is a nice little place. Owners are friendly and attentive. Make sure you bring enough firewood if it’s colder weather though. We burnt through it and had a cold morning but that’s on us haha.

Weekend Trip to Tryals Park Camp & Obstacle Course
Once I heard that our first warm day of spring was coming up, I knew I had to spend it at the little barn. As usual, Laurel and Mike were amazing during the booking process and were so welcoming. I stayed toasty warm in my hammock and got to watch a lightning storm over the hills through the open hayloft door, which was a highlight of all my years camping. Can't wait to come back!

The A frame kept us warm and dry. Even though we had a bit of rain all day. I had no issues driving my 4 wheel drive truck across the field. The outhouse was one of the cleanest I have ever seen. Great view of sunrise in the morning. We didn’t want to sleep in the loft. So we brought 2 cots and still had room to move around.
