Sacred Waterfall & Quiet Camping

NOTE: THIS IS A QUIET CAMPING AREA for reconnecting with nature. Not suitable for parties or loud groups. Kahonrakén:ra, The White Spout Waterfall, is a world unto itself. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty and powerful energies. It is considered a sacred site that has been central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka, also known as the Mohawks, the original inhabitants of Skóhare, the Schoharie Valley. Surrounded by 25 acres of both private wooded land and wide-open fields of wildflowers and fireflies, the Waterfall Cabin and Campsite are easily accessible, just off a country back road. From the campsites, it's about a 10 minute hike down the gorge to the waterfall. We do not allow partying the campsites. There is a profound healing process happening at the waterfall. At the request of the Kaneinekehaka caretakers we ask that you to respect the sacredness of this land. Thank you! There are two campsites on the property, not far from each other in the forest. One campsite is in a grass circle clearing and the other has a rustic cabin and three small flat terraces for extra tents. They are both accessed by separate footpaths through the forest, below an old red barn, surrounded by ash and walnut trees, singing birds, deer, wildflowers, and wild medicines. The campsites are not within view of each other. Each campsite has a private path down to the waterfall, where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. Make a campfire at your fire pit and fall asleep under the stars listening to a 150' waterfall and the river below. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, Kahonrakén:ra Waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into a hidden pool, which then empties again into the river, running into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. The effect is transporting. Truly, it is one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that makes you feel like you are in another world. The waterfall is amazing but the hike is steep, so please wear appropriate footwear. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Please be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and to keep noise down after 10pm so that your camping and local neighbors can chillax and enjoy the evening sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside that makes Schoharie so special. In the big red barn at the entrance to the campsites there is a community room with a charging station, cold water sink, mini fridge, coffee maker, grills, and a port-a-potty for your use. There are also 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. :) This is a leave no trace campsite. Please take all your trash with you when you leave. And please bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. Instructions for payment are in the community room next to the red silo at the barn. The wood is stacked at next to the red shed just uphill from the barn. You can also buy your own fire wood en route. We recommend that you buy kindling. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms with fresh produce and organic meat within 5 miles of the house. There are several farm stands and a general store a few miles away, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, and the Sap Bush Country Store and Café just up the hill in West Fulton. Mustang Valley, a wild mustang sanctuary and rescue center, is just down the road. Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, among many others.

If you need a combo of the above accommodation spaces, please inquire when booking so we can offer you a combo rate. All accommodations are super easy to access right off the road, and the lot driveways are traversable with 2WD car/truck, camper, trailer or motorcycle. We offer a partial Boondock setups for our 2 human accommodation spaces. This partial boondock setup includes access to our well water via drinking-grade hose, and access to our modern outhouse. You will need to provide your own electric via generator, and do your own black tank dump at a 24-7 dump located 11 miles away from our property. We do offer Rhino tank and hydraulic lift rental, so if you prefer to dump into the tank and take to the offsite dump that will help you to keep your camper sitting pretty. We also offer full concierge dump service where we will empty your black tank once per week and take to the dump ourselves. Gray tanks can be emptied directly on the lots. Something fun about our property is that we built our own modern outhouse which can be utilised year-round by all of our guests. This outhouse also includes a small tack space for our horse guest travelers. Guests are also welcome to enjoy morning hot coffee in our main barn, and chill out on the oversized couch in there (dogs welcome too!). We offer seasonal produce and goodies at our farmstand, and should be offering eggs by end of November 2023. We are open for Winter RVing in 2023/2024 (RV/camper only). Please be experienced and well-versed in the hazards of Winter RVing before booking - it is not for the feint of heart or inexperienced. If you are staying in a trailer/camper you will need to insulate the bottom of your camper with a skirt or foam insulation. We do not allow tent camping during the Winter season (that's just a little too adventurous for even us!). If you'd like a nice and warm space to stay on our farm during Winter, head on over to AirBnB for our RVBnB: https://airbnb.com/h/rv-with-a-view For Winter we provide 100ft of heated hose connected to our well water (you will need to have your own 50ft+ heated hose to connect to our heated hose in order to access the water from your lot) - this water connection is only available on the 40ft Camper Crush-n-Run Lot. On the Tent/Camper Grass Lot you will NOT have access to onsite water so you will need to bring your own water. The outhouse is open during the Winter, and we will instruct you on what to do to keep things flowing nicely in there. For those traveling with a horse in Winter, please be advised that the stall is NOT heated and the water trough is outdoors (we maintain flowing water by regular breaking up the ice during the day, and bringing hot water buckets).

Downtown Saratoga is 20 minutes away, Lake George is 25 minutes, Corinth (restaurants, grocery, etc) is a quick 5 minutes away. On the property are Pickerel Pond and Bullhead Pond (at 6.5 acres, it's more like a lake) which has plentiful bass, pickerel, sunfish, catfish, perch, blue gill, pumpkinseed, and more.

Picturesque location on farmland with views of the mountains. We are a micro-farm. Go for a short hike on the property, get to know the animals watch the sunset most of the summer. We are located 35 minutes from Saratoga Springs and Lake George, NY, and 45 minutes from Dorset and Manchester, VT. Hike the Adirondack or Green Mountains, paddle the streams or go to a nearby small city for a play, a festival, or a concert. There is a long list of things to do and see within an hour of our tent.

Aisling Mountain Farm campgrounds are located in Adams MA, is directly connected to Mount Greylock state park and its miles of trails. We currently have four tent campsites throughout the year with one that will accommodate trailers up to 16' without backing up! On event weekends we will have fire pits located around the property for everyone's use. unfortunately for large events we will not be able to accommodate trailers or RV campers.

Camping in Saratoga with campfires guide

Overview

Just over an hour south of Lake George, Saratoga is steeped in history and natural beauty. The majestic Adirondacks loom on the horizon. Mineral water fountains dot the historic downtown of Saratoga Springs. The busy season is summer when crowds pack the Saratoga racetrack to watch the horses.

Campers who want to stay close to town can choose from private campgrounds and RV resorts. Several favorite family campgrounds are near the Daketown Town State Forest. If you don't mind bringing your own supplies, you can pitch a tent in many of the surrounding New York state parks. Most of them permit primitive camping.

The closest state campground is Moreau Lake State Park, about 13 miles from Sarasota Springs. The picturesque grounds have cabins and tent camping close to the lake. Campers get basic amenities like restrooms and picnic tables, plus a swimming beach, boat launch, and hiking trails. The park's nature center has kid-friendly programs, too.

On Great Sacandaga Lake, the Northampton Beach campground is nestled on the shore amid towering white pines. The tent sites are nicely shaded, and a sandy beach and boat launch for large crafts provide lake access. For those willing to venture north, Hearthstone Point campground has sites right on Lake George. The facilities are older, but the trailer and tent sites are large and secluded, offering a relaxing atmosphere.

Mineral springs made Saratoga Springs famous in the 1800s. Today, spas still offer the bubbly baths. The Saratoga Spa State Park is the best place to sample some, with a dozen drinking fountains along the Geyser Trail. In the winter, the park is one of the best spots for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Bring your own gear or rent at the Park Office.
