Just over an hour south of Lake George, Saratoga is steeped in history and natural beauty. The majestic Adirondacks loom on the horizon. Mineral water fountains dot the historic downtown of Saratoga Springs. The busy season is summer when crowds pack the Saratoga racetrack to watch the horses.

Campers who want to stay close to town can choose from private campgrounds and RV resorts. Several favorite family campgrounds are near the Daketown Town State Forest. If you don't mind bringing your own supplies, you can pitch a tent in many of the surrounding New York state parks. Most of them permit primitive camping.

The closest state campground is Moreau Lake State Park, about 13 miles from Sarasota Springs. The picturesque grounds have cabins and tent camping close to the lake. Campers get basic amenities like restrooms and picnic tables, plus a swimming beach, boat launch, and hiking trails. The park's nature center has kid-friendly programs, too.

On Great Sacandaga Lake, the Northampton Beach campground is nestled on the shore amid towering white pines. The tent sites are nicely shaded, and a sandy beach and boat launch for large crafts provide lake access. For those willing to venture north, Hearthstone Point campground has sites right on Lake George. The facilities are older, but the trailer and tent sites are large and secluded, offering a relaxing atmosphere.

Mineral springs made Saratoga Springs famous in the 1800s. Today, spas still offer the bubbly baths. The Saratoga Spa State Park is the best place to sample some, with a dozen drinking fountains along the Geyser Trail. In the winter, the park is one of the best spots for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Bring your own gear or rent at the Park Office.

Once a RV camping park called "Thunder Hill Campground" in the late 1960's early 1970's, the land sat mostly unused for 15 years before Rachel came to steward it 20 years ago. We are 107 acres of forest, a 9 acre lake, ponds, creeks, labyrinth, a Holistic Retreat Center & Organic Permaculture Farm at a 2000 foot elevation in the Heldeberg Mountains. 500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time. Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land. Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site. There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing, Very rural and private, even though we are only 25 miles SW of Albany, NY the capital of NYS, here it is quiet and peaceful. We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet. There will be farm noises, roosters greeting the morning and various grunts and snorts... far less noise than any modern city. Albany, along with the surrounding areas, have many events etc going on. There's hiking, biking, nature parks, horse racing, concerts, festivals and events and so much more. Links and information can be provided to campers that stay with us that are looking for entertainment & excursions. We are near Albany, Berne, Catskill, Cairo, Cobleskill, East Durham, Greenville, Hunter, Knox, Medusa, Oak Hill, Middleburgh, Schoharie, Westerlo, Windham.

Just over an hour south of Lake George, Saratoga is steeped in history and natural beauty. The majestic Adirondacks loom on the horizon. Mineral water fountains dot the historic downtown of Saratoga Springs. The busy season is summer when crowds pack the Saratoga racetrack to watch the horses.

Campers who want to stay close to town can choose from private campgrounds and RV resorts. Several favorite family campgrounds are near the Daketown Town State Forest. If you don't mind bringing your own supplies, you can pitch a tent in many of the surrounding New York state parks. Most of them permit primitive camping.

The closest state campground is Moreau Lake State Park, about 13 miles from Sarasota Springs. The picturesque grounds have cabins and tent camping close to the lake. Campers get basic amenities like restrooms and picnic tables, plus a swimming beach, boat launch, and hiking trails. The park's nature center has kid-friendly programs, too.

On Great Sacandaga Lake, the Northampton Beach campground is nestled on the shore amid towering white pines. The tent sites are nicely shaded, and a sandy beach and boat launch for large crafts provide lake access. For those willing to venture north, Hearthstone Point campground has sites right on Lake George. The facilities are older, but the trailer and tent sites are large and secluded, offering a relaxing atmosphere.

Mineral springs made Saratoga Springs famous in the 1800s. Today, spas still offer the bubbly baths. The Saratoga Spa State Park is the best place to sample some, with a dozen drinking fountains along the Geyser Trail. In the winter, the park is one of the best spots for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Bring your own gear or rent at the Park Office.

Williamstown, MA (20 mins), offers tons of hiking trails and The Clark museum. Once a RV camping park called "Thunder Hill Campground" in the late 1960's early 1970's, the land sat mostly unused for 15 years before Rachel came to steward it 20 years ago. We are 107 acres of forest, a 9 acre lake, ponds, creeks, labyrinth, a Holistic Retreat Center & Organic Permaculture Farm at a 2000 foot elevation in the Heldeberg Mountains. 500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time. Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land. We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet. There will be farm noises, roosters greeting the morning and various grunts and snorts... far less noise than any modern city. Albany, along with the surrounding areas, have many events etc going on. There's hiking, biking, nature parks, horse racing, concerts, festivals and events and so much more. We are excited to share the experience of what camping in this historic region of the Adirondacks is all about. Black Hole & Dunkley Falls campsite is located on an 80-acre old Adirondack farm. The Mill Creek runs along with this property, which features access to the scenic Dunkley Falls & The Black Hole — a cavernous geological anomaly. This famous swimming spot is a perfect place to test your nerve with a backflip off its 20 ft cliffs or just take a leisurely swim in the naturally formed glacier pool. Like to fish? The Mill Creek is also stocked annually with over 3000 brown & rainbow trout. All of this is just a short walk from our property. Onsite: Two Canvas Wall Tents (16ft X 14ft ) and Outhouse. Once a RV camping park called "Thunder Hill Campground" in the late 1960's early 1970's, the land sat mostly unused for 15 years before Rachel came to steward it 20 years ago. We are 107 acres of forest, a 9 acre lake, ponds, creeks, labyrinth, a Holistic Retreat Center & Organic Permaculture Farm at a 2000 foot elevation in the Heldeberg Mountains. 500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time. Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land. You will have access to the Cantina which is a fully equipped kitchen cabin. There are tables for dining and a shared campfire ring with relaxing Adirondack chairs and lots of firewood. There is also a large shared barbecue grill. Shared access to the full bath in our main farm building, Harmony House, serves as the primary facilities available. The property is 100 acres large. Hiking trails and beautiful views are yours to absorb. Your own private paradise! Each of the glamping sites includes a fluffy queen or full size bed all freshly made up for you with soft linens, comforters. They are securely perched inside a raised tent platform and wood frame that is fully screened in above the ground with latching door. Each has a deck and lounge chairs. The tents are large canvas cabins. All four sides can be completely rolled up for a wide open, screened in and close-to-nature glamping experience. Relax in peace. Fall asleep to the Bard Owls conversing in the trees. Awaken to nature's symphony of singing birds. Gaze out south at the green rolling pasture below and the beautiful mountains and landscapes of Vermont.
