For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka.
Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinary spots on earth that make you feel like you’re in another world. The sites aren’t suitable for parties or loud groups.
It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below.
The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls.
Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside
At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. There are 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water.
This is a leave no trace site. Take all your trash with you when you leave. Bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty!
Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log.
The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms stands with fresh produce and organic meat close by.

2000 foot elevation in the Heldeberg Mountains.
500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time.
Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land.
Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site.
There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail
and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has
trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing,
Very rural and private, even though we are only 25 miles SW of Albany, NY the capital of NYS, here it is quiet and peaceful.
We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet.
There will be farm noises, roosters greeting the morning and various grunts and snorts... far less noise than any modern city.
Albany, along with the surrounding areas, have many events etc going on. There's hiking, biking, nature parks, horse racing, concerts, festivals and events and so much more. Links and information can be provided to campers that stay with us that are looking for entertainment & excursions.

The ‘Fossil Creek Trail’ leads down through the woods from the pond area to the slate bed creek. (*Please watch your footing on the trail- some is quite uneven.)
There are many amazing fossils to find if you look in the creek bed during the dryer season. The woods are cooler and bug free, perfect for sitting and relaxing with a book or picnic.
There are several mowed trails that wind around the pond and then back up to the Tent.

This 17-acre site has diverse habitats, from an upland pine and hardwood forest to wild native meadows full of blueberries, asters and milkweed. The most special feature is a large tributary and creek waterway system with areas of wetland. Once choked with invasive plants, it is now a largely restored native plant and wildlife habitat that supports migrating herons, trout, amphibians and clouds of Monarch and other butterflies. In the fall I've seen Monarchs circle up in vortexes from the meadows and take off on their migration. There are several large swimming holes where the creek turns or joins with its tributary. Bridges have been installed over the tributary and over brooklets feeding into it.
A lot of care and love is going into this land. Over 500 native trees planted along the creek banks are growing into a forest - you'll see many still in protective tubes and cages. Thousands of native pollinator ground-plants have been planted or sprung up on their own, some like tiny flowering gems on the shady forest floors.
The old stone walls running through the property and around its boundaries speak to its history as a farm and an apple orchard. Swimming, hiking, fishing and bird-and-wildlife watching will fascinate you in this dynamic landscape that is constantly coming closer to what used to exist hundreds of years ago and is now reestablishing itself.
In the vicinity, there's Tetta's, a deli/cafe/gas station and small emporium with made-to-order pizza, local raw honey, mushroom, crafts, and all kinds of food, pretty much everything you need; it's been in the family for generations. Find it Northeast on Samsonville Road (County Rt. 3) at the junctions of Rts. 2 & 3. There's a hike to a waterfall if you drive a few miles down Upper Cherrytown Road from the end of Sundown Road: you'll see a parking lot with signs for the falls; the DEC-maintained trail is across the road (https://www.catskillmountaineer.com/SD-vernooy-falls-east.html). There's venues nearby along Rt. 209 with local musicians on Saturday nights: places like The Outpost Barbeque, 6611 Rt. 209 in Kerhonkson, Lydia's Cafe at 7 Old US Hwy 209, Stone Ridge. Near Lydia's is a favorite afternoon hang-out, Cherries Roadside and General, which not only has literally hundreds of ice cream flavors, but an excellent, informal restaurant. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty. It’s considered a sacred site central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka.
Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, the waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. It’s one of those extraordinary spots on earth that make you feel like you’re in another world. The sites aren’t suitable for parties or loud groups.
It's about a 10 minute hike to the waterfall where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. In the evening, make a campfire and fall asleep under the stars listening to the river below.
The hike is steep and appropriate footwear is required. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls.
Be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and keep noise down after 10pm to enjoy the sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside
At the entrance to the campsites there is a barn community room with a charging station, cold water sink, fridge, coffee maker, cookware, and a port-a-potty. 500 million years ago during the Devonian Period this was a sea, so we live in shale based mountains with lots of fossils! The Heldebergs are one of the oldest mountain ranges on earth, these mountains have been worn down to 2000 feet over time.
Native Americans lived in the area many years ago and we are quite sure this was Native American sacred ceremony land.
Hiking, canoeing, swimming and fishing (catch & release only) are available on site.
There are many places to hike in the area, an Eagle Trail
and in winter, 2 miles away, is a Nature Preserve that rents snowshoes and has
trails for snowshoeing and cross country skiing,

We do have 3 very friendly dogs that will want to be your best friends. Also farm animals that you can meet.

The ‘Fossil Creek Trail’ leads down through the woods from the pond area to the slate bed creek. (*Please watch your footing on the trail- some is quite uneven.)
There are many amazing fossils to find if you look in the creek bed during the dryer season. The woods are cooler and bug free, perfect for sitting and relaxing with a book or picnic.

This 17-acre site has diverse habitats, from an upland pine and hardwood forest to wild native meadows full of blueberries, asters and milkweed. The most special feature is a large tributary and creek waterway system with areas of wetland. Once choked with invasive plants, it is now a largely restored native plant and wildlife habitat that supports migrating herons, trout, amphibians and clouds of Monarch and other butterflies. In the fall I've seen Monarchs circle up in vortexes from the meadows and take off on their migration. There are several large swimming holes where the creek turns or joins with its tributary. Bridges have been installed over the tributary and over brooklets feeding into it.
A lot of care and love is going into this land. Over 500 native trees planted along the creek banks are growing into a forest - you'll see many still in protective tubes and cages. Thousands of native pollinator ground-plants have been planted or sprung up on their own, some like tiny flowering gems on the shady forest floors.
The old stone walls running through the property and around its boundaries speak to its history as a farm and an apple orchard. Swimming, hiking, fishing and bird-and-wildlife watching will fascinate you in this dynamic landscape that is constantly coming closer to what used to exist hundreds of years ago and is now reestablishing itself.
In the vicinity, there's Tetta's, a deli/cafe/gas station and small emporium with made-to-order pizza, local raw honey, mushroom, crafts, and all kinds of food, pretty much everything you need; it's been in the family for generations. Find it Northeast on Samsonville Road (County Rt. 3) at the junctions of Rts. 2 & 3. There's a hike to a waterfall if you drive a few miles down Upper Cherrytown Road from the end of Sundown Road: you'll see a parking lot with signs for the falls; the DEC-maintained trail is across the road (https://www.catskillmountaineer.com/SD-vernooy-falls-east.html). There's venues nearby along Rt. 209 with local musicians on Saturday nights: places like The Outpost Barbeque, 6611 Rt. 209 in Kerhonkson, Lydia's Cafe at 7 Old US Hwy 209, Stone Ridge. Near Lydia's is a favorite afternoon hang-out, Cherries Roadside and General, which not only has literally hundreds of ice cream flavors, but an excellent, informal restaurant. SMALL CABIN AND GLAMPING TENT
The small cabin is 10x12 feet with huge deck and outdoor kitchen. Inside is a queen bed loft bed, a wood stove, a couch, and a desk/table.
The glamping tent features a queen bed and wood stove and sit about 100 feet from the cabin.
Our campsite is approximately 2 hours from George Washington Bridge. This property is 45 acres of beautiful forest with 2000 feet of streamfront on the Mombaccus Creek where you can hang out and cool off on those hot summer days.
Minutes from hiking, fishing and horse-riding and everything great about the Catskills. Rough Cut Brewery is a 10 minute drive with amazing beers and food when you don't feel like cooking at the campsite. 25 minutes to the action in New Paltz, 10 minutes to Walmart and 5 minutes to the Kerhonkson Diner, gas station, laundromat, pharmacy, liquor store etc.

Bath tub!!! Not hot tub!!! (Does have hot water)
The tent was PLENTY warm with the propane heater provided.
Tent kept out the wind, rain, and cold.
20 bucks for a wagon of pre chopped wood on site. wonderful price, great quality wood.
The snow was plowed perfectly but it was very icy. Just be careful.
11/10 would stay again.

The cabin was the perfect size for my fiancé and me! We enjoyed cooking over the fire pit and hiking down to the river and waterfall. It was quite cold while we were there but the space heater really did the job when turned on to max for a couple hours, we even had to shed a couple blankets! Would definitely return, especially in the warmer months to cross the river and see the waterfall up close. The only heads up is that the bathroom is a short walk up a small hill to a port-a-potty. Amy was helpful and the directions were clear! The free kindling was much appreciated.

Perfect for a weekend escape from the city.
The cabin was spacious and spotless, and the restroom was well-maintained.
No service, water, or electricity, but firewood was ready for us, and the nights under the stars were amazing.
The host was friendly and easy to communicate with, and check-in/check-out were very flexible and smooth.
It felt a little pricey for a basic setup, but we still really enjoyed our stay.
Highly recommend this spot if you’re looking to disconnect and recharge in nature.

Elon's place is a great glamping location! We loved it from the minute we got there. Elon and Stefan were great hosts, very responsive and solved any requests right away. Even though the site is located in the same property as the host's house, the location of the site is very very far away from the house, tucked away inside the valley and forest, to the point you won't even notice. The site it's outstanding and very romantic for sure! The hot water tank was a plus! We had no issues or complains, and will definitely be returning again.

Sam’s got a really special place here! While not quite as private as I’d assumed (the sites are somewhat close together and near a road and you’d occasionally run into another guest at the toilets), the sound of the water from the waterfall drowns out almost all noise and you still feel like you’re in the middle of the woods. We stayed at the waterfall site with the bathtub, which we did not bathe in, but it was nice to have hot water on site to wash hands, brush teeth etc. The tent was cozy once we got the propane heater going and the added amenities (coffee maker, electric kettle, fire pit with an attached grill…) were nice. There’s even firewood onsite for purchase. Sam responded immediately when we had any questions or issues and was very helpful. Would absolutely stay again!
