We are in the rural area between Hesperus, Durango, and Mancos - An easy drive to Durango and its thrift shops, restaurants, galleries, cafes, Animas River and River Trail, and hiking and biking trails. Mancos is filled with art galleries, a wonderful bakery and cafe, beauty, and endless trails. Also within driving distance are Phil's World, Cortez, Sand Canyon, the beautiful La Plata Canyon, Mesa Verde National Park, Lake NIghthorse, and more! There are endless hiking and biking trails within driving distance of the property. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing abound and alpine skiing at Purgatory Ski Resort are popular winter activities. On the property are cats, two dogs, two equines (you will hear our burro braying). Our neighbors have yaks, cattle, goats, sheep, dogs, horses, poultry, and other farm animals. You will also see the wild critters that inhabit our corner of La Plata County. You are welcome to wander our property beyond the Big Stick Ditch but do not go into the pasture with our burro or enter any of the out buildings.
Park within steps of the Art Shack, cross the foot bridge over the bubbling irrigation ditch, and you have arrived!

There is electricity, a queen bed, rustic chairs inside, an outdoor table and chairs, a composting toilet, a coffee machine, and purified drinking water for your use. An electric heater is supplied during winter months. There is no air conditioning.
We are available if needed (unless we are out of town adventuring) but will not expect to interact with you as you relax.

This lavender farm is a working farm. Farmstay experiences available and will be tailored to you. There may be volunteers, pulling weeds, putting up fencing, planting, etc during your stay, but rest assured they will not disturb you or make loud noises during quiet times. The goats will likely make more noise than anything else. Izzy will be the loudest. She’s a young Nigerian Dwarf. When I brought her home at 2 weeks old, she went to work with me. I carried her in a baby sling. I didn’t spoil her at all!
Hiking down the trail to the river it’s easy to get distracted by the beauty. It’s like another world. I like to watch the hillside as we pass through time going up/down the trail. At the bottom of the trail we an 150+ year old apple tree. And looking across the valley, you can see where the train used to run. Ask Melissa to tell you about the story of apples in this region.
Certain times of the year you could pick lavender, cook or make crafts with it, learn about milking goats, making cheese, make salves or lip balm, crafts and more.
We love the bees! We do not use chemicals in the field and we don’t have a store on site so you should bring sunscreen, bug repellent and anything else you might need. Of course, should a need arise that we can help with, we are more than happy to do so.
It is common to see wildlife, especially near the river. Please remember to watch for wildlife and share the land. We have deer, wild turkeys, mountain lions, bobcats, bears, elk, and many, many birds. Blue herons nest in the trees in the bosque. If you like the night sky, you’ll love the views on a clear night. It can be nothing short of spectacular!

It's one tent on 13 private acres, about ten minutes north of Durango, and it's the only one out here. While you're here, the whole place is yours.
You ride in on the side-by-side, so there's no parking lot and nothing to haul. We're in a valley, so you'll see a few homes off in the distance and hear a car go by now and then, but the acres and the riverbank are yours. Most people get out here, put the phone away, and don't pick it back up till they leave.
We've got our own stretch of the river too. Good place to sit with a book or float around on a warm afternoon.
Fair warning, we're off grid. The AC runs, but you're in a tent, so it takes the heat down without feeling like your living room. Power's solar with a propane generator for backup, and that makes some noise when it kicks on. For most folks it's an easy trade for having a spot like this to yourself.

Weekend Trip to Lavender Farm Bed and Breakfast
The spirit at Mesa Verde is so peaceful, and the views are incredible! Travis and his family are so welcoming. The wagon and outdoor shower are perfect, and it was amazing to wake up to a wonderful breakfast and learn about the area's incredible history. If you are visiting Mesa Verde Park please don't skip this stay.

This was the best Hipcamp experience I've ever had. Everything at Bright Stars was well thought out and realized. This was a beautiful spot to spend a couple of nights with some friends. The yurts are spacious and have everything you need. The beds and the couch are very comfortable to sleep on! The hosts are amazing and work hard to make your stay the best you can imagine. I’ll be back when I need a nature retreat!

Tiana and her family even stopped in a few times to make sure we didn't need anything and to share local tips and fellowship with us. 10/10 would stay here again and highly recommend to anyone looking for an off-the beaten path stay near Farmington.

We had a great night at this location. The central kitchen / community area was really cool. The vault toilets were amazing. It's far enough out of town to feel remote but close enough to run into town if you need something. There were so many provided extras it was kind of impressive - ping pong table, billiards room, microwave, tables under an roof, grill, and more. I am already looking at when we can go back.

If you’re in the Durango area definitely spend some time at Travis and Katie’s lavender farm. It’s absolutely stunning!! I enjoyed two nights in the wagon, and a delicious breakfast served promptly at 8:00 a.m. each morning. I volunteered during the harvest and met some lovely humans during the process. Take the farm tour, walk among the lavender and flower fields, sit in the blue chair on the edge of the canyon to read a book or just admire the landscape, and purchase some lovely lavender products to take home; a reminder of this special place. You will feel welcomed from the moment you arrive and leave feeling relaxed and recharged.

Beautiful people, property, natural environment and vision! I enjoyed meeting Travis and Katie, both so passionate about what they're building at Mesa Verde Lavender Farm. The accommodations reminded me of my old VW camper van--although not quite as small--but definitely cozy and well-equipped. Best part was the lavender, soft mounds bursting with purple rays, attracting bees and spraying love everywhere. Go when temperatures are a bit cooler if you can. Intense summer heat was a tad uncomfortable. But I'd sure go again for an evening of contemplation with flowers and the canyon!

My seven year old and I booked our stay at this lovely camp for two nights, extended for an third, and wish we were staying longer.
This local family owned and operated camp has truly been an oasis of birds and deer, really close to town yet feels far away in the best way.
We had dinner every night at delicious restaurants on Main Street, did laundry nearby at a clean, friendly laundromat, and filled up with gas, ice, and groceries in the stores.
We took day trips to Mesa Verde, Bisti Badlands, and Chaco Canyon while here. Had we stayed one more day, we would have enjoyed fishing nearby.
We would definitely stay here again!

This place has a great location, stunning views and a fun, peaceful vibe. The hosts were very kind and understanding about a booking mistake I made. The communal kitchen is a great resource. Do pay attention to the description about heating and cooling which the hosts provide. Our cabin did get very hot during the day.

THIS is the glamping spot! It didn’t look like much when we drove up, but it held so much good energy, people, and fun! We stayed 2 nights in the Raven tipi. It was beyond expectations with a super comfy king bed, a power station for charging, flashlights, great decor & rugs, and a thoughtful piece of plastic for any areas that might get wet when it rains. It’s a real tipi so there is an hole at the top. We got down pours both days but things stayed dry since they provided what we needed in case of rain. The kitchen had everything you needed (plus) and was a great gathering spot to meet other explorers. They had the cleanest looking and smelling bathrooms I’ve ever seen in public and they are compost toilets! The coolest billiards room, ping pong table, fuse ball, painting supplies, games, and great people, especially the hosts Kent & Brandy. This is a ten out of five stars must-stay if you’re going to Mesa Verde or anywhere in the 4 corners area!

There were clear instructions on how to operate everything. It was a great mix of comfort, convenience, and camping. The deck was amazing, the aspens were perfect for hanging hammocks, and the kids loved the books. The whole family loved it.
