We are in the rural area between Hesperus, Durango, and Mancos - An easy drive to Durango and its thrift shops, restaurants, galleries, cafes, Animas River and River Trail, and hiking and biking trails. Mancos is filled with art galleries, a wonderful bakery and cafe, beauty, and endless trails. Also within driving distance are Phil's World, Cortez, Sand Canyon, the beautiful La Plata Canyon, Mesa Verde National Park, Lake NIghthorse, and more! There are endless hiking and biking trails within driving distance of the property. Cross country skiing and snowshoeing abound and alpine skiing at Purgatory Ski Resort are popular winter activities. On the property are cats, two dogs, two equines (you will hear our burro braying). Our neighbors have yaks, cattle, goats, sheep, dogs, horses, poultry, and other farm animals. You will also see the wild critters that inhabit our corner of La Plata County. You are welcome to wander our property beyond the Big Stick Ditch but do not go into the pasture with our burro or enter any of the out buildings.
Park within steps of the Art Shack, cross the foot bridge over the bubbling irrigation ditch, and you have arrived!
Please remove your shoes before entering!
There is electricity, a queen bed, rustic chairs inside, an outdoor table and chairs, a composting toilet, a coffee machine, and purified drinking water for your use. An electric heater is supplied during winter months. There is no air conditioning.
We are available if needed (unless we are out of town adventuring) but will not expect to interact with you as you relax.

History of JW Durango Riverside Resort
It all started in 1965…
When this campground hosted its first guests the goal back then was simply to offer folks from around the Four Corners a place to relax and lounge along the Animas River.
Today, the property boasts 73 quality RV sites, 24 cabins and 6 tent sites. We also have a heated pool, playground, convenience store, retail shop, game room, café with a large deck for dining, laundry room, paved roadways, two bath houses, and an observation deck overlooking the Animas.
The property sits just south of Bakers Bridge, a local landmark made famous as the set of the climactic finale in the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” – where Paul Newman and Robert Redford sat along the rocky cliffs that line the river before they famously took the plunge.
As the lifeblood of this community, the Animas River winds its way under that bridge and south toward historic downtown Durango. Everyone from whitewater enthusiasts and acclaimed fly fisherman to laidback locals in inner tubes enjoy the same flowing mountain waters miners have tapped for more than a century.
Back in 1965, the population of Durango was just over 10,000 and La Plata County almost 20,000. Today, the city itself is home to 20,000 residents while the county is closing in on a staggering 58,000.
As more and more people discover the beauty and majesty of the San Juan National Forest and surrounding Rocky Mountain peaks, the number of people flocking to the Four Corners region continues to grow.

Glamping in an Airstream in the lavender field, along with optional farm experiences, is available. Your glamping stay is in a 2003 Airstream Safari with solar power, deluxe bedding, a full kitchen (oven/microwave and refrigerator/freezer), a sound system, heat, and A/C. The bathroom is not hooked up, but a Bob’s Johns portable toilet and heated outdoor shower are nearby. In front of your entrance are chairs and a fire table, perfect for relaxing in the evening.
This lavender farm is a working farm. Farmstay experiences are available and can be tailored to you. There may be volunteers pulling weeds, putting up fencing, planting, and doing other farm work during your stay, but rest assured that they will not disturb you or make loud noises during quiet times.
The goats will likely make more noise than anything else. Izzy will be the loudest. She’s a young Nigerian Dwarf goat. When I brought her home at two weeks old, she went to work with me, and I carried her in a baby sling. I didn’t spoil her at all!
While hiking down the trail to the river, it’s easy to get distracted by the beauty. It feels like another world. I like to watch the hillside change as we make our way up and down the trail. At the bottom of the trail, we have a 150+ year-old apple tree. Looking across the valley, you can also see where the train used to run. Ask Melissa to tell you about the history of apples in this region.
At certain times of the year, you can pick lavender, cook or make crafts with it, learn about milking goats and making cheese, create salves or lip balm, enjoy other crafts, and more.
We love the bees! We do not use chemicals in the field, and we don’t have a store on-site, so you should bring sunscreen, bug repellent, and anything else you might need. Of course, if a need arises that we can help with, we are more than happy to do so.
It is common to see wildlife, especially near the river. Please remember to watch for wildlife and share the land. We have deer, wild turkeys, mountain lions, bobcats, bears, elk, and many, many birds. Blue herons nest in the trees in the bosque. If you enjoy the night sky, you’ll love the views on a clear night. They can be nothing short of spectacular!

This is a completely log structure except for the first floor and the views are amazing off of the decks. While the bottom of the mountain is quite populated now, up where we are is still comparatively much less populated. We wanted a log cabin in the mountains and we believe we achieved it. But, you decide.
First floor: 1 bedroom twin over full bunkbed, full bath, mud room, laundry room, large living room; second floor: 2 bedrooms w/queen beds, full bath, kitchen w/island and pantry, dining room, living room. Third floor: 2 bedrooms w/queen beds, full bath, loft area w/futon. Two full decks w/tables and chairs & umbrellas and great views of valley below. Covered walkway w/gas grill. Parking for 3 or 4 vehicles at rear of cabin. Wifi throughout. Satellite tv (direct tv) on 1st and 2nd floors. Lots of pine trees surrounding the cabin. Can hike to the top of the mountain and view Lake Vallecito (45 min hike) deer are usually plentiful and other wildlife as well.

What a beautiful spot Travis and Katie have! The wagon is perfect for a couple and had everything we needed. We really enjoyed walking around the farm and also at night sitting on the sauna deck overlooking the canyon. Travis's breakfast was amazing!! Chacko the dog was a great greeter when we arrived. Definitely stop in their farm store and buy some of their wonderful lavender products. We love the magnesium spray!!

It's far enough out of town to feel remote but close enough to run into town if you need something. There were so many provided extras it was kind of impressive - ping pong table, billiards room, microwave, tables under an roof, grill, and more. I am already looking at when we can go back.

Best campground we've had the opportunity to stay at .the staff is very very nice and accommodating. Got a cute gift shop with some nice stuff.kids got to play with other kids place is very laid back they let me have a campfire and let me set up my hammock in the campground. Made us Burgers first night we were there. My girls loved this place and its super close to the lake. Will totally be back here some day.

Weekend Trip to Lavender Farm Bed and Breakfast
If you’re in the Durango area definitely spend some time at Travis and Katie’s lavender farm. It’s absolutely stunning!! I enjoyed two nights in the wagon, and a delicious breakfast served promptly at 8:00 a.m. each morning. I volunteered during the harvest and met some lovely humans during the process. Take the farm tour, walk among the lavender and flower fields, sit in the blue chair on the edge of the canyon to read a book or just admire the landscape, and purchase some lovely lavender products to take home; a reminder of this special place. You will feel welcomed from the moment you arrive and leave feeling relaxed and recharged.

1 night at Lavender Farm Bed and Breakfast
Beautiful people, property, natural environment and vision! I enjoyed meeting Travis and Katie, both so passionate about what they're building at Mesa Verde Lavender Farm. The accommodations reminded me of my old VW camper van--although not quite as small--but definitely cozy and well-equipped. Best part was the lavender, soft mounds bursting with purple rays, attracting bees and spraying love everywhere. Go when temperatures are a bit cooler if you can. Intense summer heat was a tad uncomfortable. But I'd sure go again for an evening of contemplation with flowers and the canyon!

My seven year old and I booked our stay at this lovely camp for two nights, extended for an third, and wish we were staying longer.
This local family owned and operated camp has truly been an oasis of birds and deer, really close to town yet feels far away in the best way.
We had dinner every night at delicious restaurants on Main Street, did laundry nearby at a clean, friendly laundromat, and filled up with gas, ice, and groceries in the stores.
We took day trips to Mesa Verde, Bisti Badlands, and Chaco Canyon while here. Had we stayed one more day, we would have enjoyed fishing nearby.
We would definitely stay here again!

The lavendar farm is truly a dream getaway! Traivs and Katie are amazings hosts, grateful for those incredible humans! Whether you want to enjoy the sauna and gorgeous views on their property, explore Mesa Verde National Park, or just stop and smell the lavendar on the farm, time spent at the lavendar farm is always rejuvenating!

We had the best time in the wagon at the lavender farm! It was right before harvest so the lavender was beautiful and blooming. Katie & Travis are excellent hosts and the property was so peaceful! We would 100% recommend staying and visiting the farm!

This place has a great location, stunning views and a fun, peaceful vibe. The hosts were very kind and understanding about a booking mistake I made. The communal kitchen is a great resource. Do pay attention to the description about heating and cooling which the hosts provide. Our cabin did get very hot during the day.
