Not all of us have a weekend free but we might be able to get away for the night and a breakfast before having to return to soccer games or meetings. This is also a great spot to get out and try out new gear without exposing yourself to a long difficult haul only to find out you forgot the propane or the shovel. Take the 5 minute drive from civilization and find yourself far enough away to breathe easier. Cross the dry, sandy, river bed and you’re almost there. Ultimate peace and privacy. Nestled in juniper-wooded hills with sweeping views. Close to Albuquerque (20 minutes) and Santa Fe (40 minutes) but feels like a secluded retreat. Most people have no problem finding my place by entering my address in their GPS. However, I have had 2 HipCampers report their GPS directed them to a road called Camino de las Brisas or Las Brisas Loop. Turning here will lead you to a steep, dangerous road where it will be very difficult to turn around if you're in an RV and impossible with a trailer. Continue on Camino de Las Huertas to Senda Osa Vieja. It's marked with a street sign, a stone monument with brass plate. There's also a blue "private road" sign with a dragon. This land was purchased in 1956 by my archeologist parents because of the ancient pueblo site (dating from 1000 A.D.) and pit house sites (dating from 800 A.D.) Until the mega drought seriously impacted the land, a stream ran through it year round. Now it is only intermittent. Across the valley from this property, and within view of the campsite, is the site of a Spanish Colonial village, San Jose de las Huertas. It dates from the 1700s and is now owned by the Archeological Conservancy. This area is rich in history both Native American and Spanish. Learn more about this land: Located in the high desert 20 minutes from Albuquerque and 40 minutes from Santa Fe. Views of Sandia mountains, and near historic archeological sites. Within a 10 minute drive are popular mountain biking trails. Petroglyphs are a 20 minute, moderately strenuous hike from property. Very peaceful, quiet and safe. Read all the Rules and Safety info before booking so you understand exactly what facilities are and are not available, particularly if you in an RV or trailer.

Nice host. The morning coffee was a welcome offer. This is a convenient spot in town. The setting is a neighborhood house with tent sites in backyard garden. Very pleasant. Use of bathroom and shower a useful bonus. Will stay again when traveling through in future.

We didn't get to stay long as we were in between long distance destinations but Melodie & Brent's place was awesome. And they were super patient with us with directions. Yes, as other's have said follow them to a T! We did find the distance on Twinning Rd (not marked that we could see but is literally two roads side by side) to be 2.8 rather than 2.6 miles and the Blue Moon container is so faded you can't see what it is until you are right up on it but other than that their directions worked perfectly. I'm neurospicy so specifics trip me up sometimes but they were patient with us and walked us through. The sunset was one of the best I've seen in a very long time and the sunrise was cotton candy gorgeous.

Had a great night at Michaela’s spot. Felt very safe and comfortable on my own. She was very welcoming and friendly when I arrived and was nice enough to make me coffee in the morning before heading out. We chatted and got to know each other a bit which was lovely. Would recommend to anyone passing through. Especially solo female travels. Overall great experience. Thank you for the stay!

We stayed here with Luke twice, both coming and going through Albuquerque. We found the site to be very convenient to everything we wanted to see, and to access the freeways. Luke, as our host, was an excellent communicator, and was most accommodating, letting us know we could have late check out one day as his next guest was not coming until later. The site was level, private, and quiet. One thing to be aware of— we are somewhat small/ 40 Ft combined truck and trailer, and with another camper already occupying the rear of the camp, the turning radius was a little tight and took a little skill. This was not a deal breaker- just something to be aware of.

We loved our stay! We got in late and Kristina was quick and easy to communicate with. She had great recommendations for food and recreation close by. We got great burgers and enjoyed live music at the Lazy Lizard, coffee and scones at Cabra Coffee, and hiked some trails from there as well. Ended up booking another night. Great, easy spot!

Only stayed one night. Very accommodating and understanding land owner. Planned to have a late check in time, so owner had left a light out to guide us. Instructions very clear on how to get there. The land is right next to her house however it doesn’t feel intrusive. Greeted us in the morning and showed some trails we could go explore nearby. Weather was a little windy in the morning which she said was unusual but made packing up a little difficult. However the land was leveled and a perfect fit for my truck and rooftop tent. Would recommend this area to other campers.
