One of the oldest properties in town the Day Homestead (as it is known) dates back hundreds of years and our house was built in 1810. It was run as a successful trout farm of 70+ years. Learn more about this land: We have two sites on our historic Vermont trout farm.  The first site sits near our post and beam "run in" horse barn.  It's a very flat site with easy road access and has 30 AMP electric service and we can provide potable water to fill up your tank. The second site sits a little further back (also very easy access) and closer to Quation Brook. It is better suited for boondocking as it is a little ways from the 30 AMP outlets. Again water is available. Our farm is very rural but close (2 miles) to interstate 89 with a well stocked country store in town. It's a  quiet setting near the gardens and a small stream. Located at the end of a dirt road, quiet with views of Killington/Pico and Salt Ash Mountain. Its a 15 min drive from Okemo/Ludlow, 10min drive from the Appalachian trail (7.9 mile walk) and there are 3 other Ski resorts within an hour of us as well as numerous lakes and hiking trails. Just 2 miles up the road is Star Lake and the quaint town of Belmont. Our 7 acres sits on the Northside of Belmont hill. Half of it is open with several gardens to meander through. There is a pergola filled with kiwis and wisteria and a hammock for lounging. A shady grape arbor filled with white grapes that we have made wine with. On property we have a tree fort, greenhouse, chickens and pigs. We do provide fresh eggs for sale. There is a medium pond in the back for swimming, a large fire pit for fires and but the Hip Shack comes with its own fire pit/grill combo. Wood bundle's are also available. There is a rudimentary outdoor toilet and shower. The shower can be filled with hot water using the faucet by the garage. All water from hoses, pump hoses and faucets is the same drinkable well water, collected from the many underground springs that also feed into the pond.

It's lambing time!!! This is the best time of year to visit us, as maximum cuteness is running around just a short walk across the suspension bridge from where you will be staying! We currently have 11 newborn lambs all less than two weeks old (two new arrivals today!) and two ewes are still waiting to deliver. Who knows...maybe they will wait til you get here! Our farm was named after the summer home of Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg. Trollhaugen Farm means Troll hill, but the only real trolls around these parts are the sheep. Our farm has sheep, pigs, chickens and ducks that you are welcome to visit. The yurt sits under the trees next to a babbling brook. A suspension bridge connects you to the farm area. The yurt is private and has a fire pit right out back where you can grill or just sit and enjoy the fire. The colorful yurt offers a comfy four poster bed, a small kitchen area and a bathroom with shower and composting toilet. This is a great place for children, bikers, swimmers, hikers or anyone who just wants to get away from it all for a few days. There are many lovely hikes, one of which takes you to a pond you can swim in. You can also hike up in the woods behind the yurt. Newfane village is one of the most picturesque villages in Vermont, with a courthouse on the green. There are two restaurants in Newfane, two coffee shops, a flea market on Sundays, and a great antique store. We are close to Brattleboro, home to one of the best coops in the northeast, as well as many fun stores and an art museum. Please come visit us!

Weekend Trip to Bent Apple Farm

Perfect snow get away. Wood burning stove and heater kept us warm, even with just one. Enjoyed listening and looking through the vinyls. Loved the hot tub after a long day of hiking and the comfy bed. The cabin was cute and felt very lived in. It was a nice surprise to see a journal of how many people stayed there, especially during Covid, very lovely notes people left! Only down side - couldn’t stop sneezing at times, lots of dust in the crevices of the wood floor and fabric. Also wish there was a bit more privacy at the door and hot tub, could see the guest next door. Overall definitely would recommend and stay again!

We enjoyed the horse run in! The run in was clean and had everything we needed. Very much enjoyed the wood burning stove, hot tub, and fire pit. We found the dvd player, books, and record player charming. The farm is beautiful and we enjoyed the town of Londonderry. While the listed rules were a bit overwhelming, Ben and Loana were very kind and hospitable and easy to deal with (it was only surprising bc the rules had set a bit of a different tone). I would highly recommend.

The site was beautiful and had everything you need! We were here in the fall so the other sites were mostly empty. Each site is large and wooded- we stayed in #5 secret field and it was huge and very level. Great spot! We will definitely come back!

The tree coverage and built in coverage was so nice to sit under especially since it was raining. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a place to land with service and close to town!

We enjoyed our stay at Dave’s place. We didn’t have any issues finding it and the options for parking were nice and level. And we were pleasantly surprised by having decent cell service (after hardly any coverage driving through Vermont all day). Likewise, we met Dave and he was very welcoming. We’d look to stay again if we’re in the area.

The host was very lovely, we had a great stay. The space heater was not working for us so it was a cold night but we brought extra blankets so it was fine. The host said she was in the process of fixing the heater. Would definitely recommend staying here the property is very beautiful!

I love staying at Fernando's cabin with my dog. They had everything I needed and nothing I didn't. The hot tub in the sauna were a real bonus. Loana and Ben were not in the least bit intrusive, but we're quick to respond when I had a question. Their sweet lab Simon greeted us as we were leaving. Would definitely return.

We raise pigs, chickens, ducks, geese and sometimes sheep on pasture delivering to local individuals, restaurants and stores year round. We have our own on-farm USDA butcher shop where we cut meat, make sausage, bacon, salt pork and other delicious meats. This is back country camping with logging roads, log landings and old country roads.There are many options for camp sites including just off road to deep in woods on logging roads & landings. Sites are not fixed - pick one you like in the non-farm zone, respecting other campers, and enjoy your visit. Note: This is real country - not a hotel, motel or groomed camp ground nor groomed trails. It is a working farm and forest. There is no front desk, no 24/7 service. Be attentive about clearance on your vehicles on side roads, logging trails and log landings. Logging & Side Roads & Landings are dirt/gravel. Some lower vehicles may have difficulty with clearance expecially in wet and muddy weather. There are many camping sites that are accessible near the main roads and better landings where you can park. Occasionally there is logging activity to stay clear of - it will be obvious as there is big equipment and log piles then. Please stay outside of the fenced Farm Zone areas. Fences are electricified for the livestock and there are big livestock guardian herding dogs in the farm zone. There are acres and acres (>100?) of wild raspberries and blackberries all over the mountains and valley - a delight for the tongue in their seasons roughly July to September. Dozens of wild apple trees abound as well. In the past people have grown marijuana on my land without permission - if you find any, go ahead and take it. A plethora and diversity of wildlife. Bring your cameras and binoculars but no guns, bows or traps. General store and Post Office 1.5 miles south of farm on Route-25. Barre town 9.5 miles north on Route-302 with Montpelier just a little further, each having a wide range of dining & shopping as well as local sights. There are many local lakes and rivers with great swiming. Groton Lake with it's Boulder Beach is just up Rt-302 a few miles to our east. A little further you'll find Lake Champlain, Lake Fairlee, Lake Morey and the Connecticut River as well as many other lakes and rivers in Vermont. PORK, both fresh and smoked, available most times from farm by appointment. Currently I have bacon, smoked jowl, smoked ham, smoked trotters and smoked hocks in stock. FIREWOOD - Vermont bans bringing firewood in from other states because of pest and disease risks so get the wood locally. You may use downed wood laying on the ground for your grill but please do not cut down trees. Dead lower branches of spruce and pine may be trimmed and they make excellent kindling. Cut close to the trunk to leave it safe for others. I also usually have dry firewood you can purchase for $10 per bundle. Much of the year fires are allowed such as when snow is on the ground. Please leave farm gates closed, stay out of fenced (electric!) farm fields, do not feed farm animals, keep roads open for others and be respectful of other campers, neighbors & locals. Fences in the farm area are typically electrified - no touch. Please note that I have big farm dogs who guard and herd our livestock. Please do not bring your dogs into the farm area (shown on map) as my dogs will see your dogs as possible threats to their livestock. Well behaved dogs, children and adults are welcome in the forest land. A leash is recommended if you do not have good voice control of dogs and children. Remember I farm so I may not always reply to texts quickly and I'm rarely near the front gate. My house is over 500' higher up the mountain from the front gate and road so I may not hear you even if you honk, especially at night. Looking for a warm and cozy space? Our 12acres are beautifully wooded with our pond as the central point of interest.  Camping with a trailer is a fun experience.  While we do not have a kitchen, we provide propane grill, BBQ grill shared refrigerators, pans, utensils, and dishwashing area, Please expect some vintage aspects, such as door handles, screens, windows, that function according to their age.  These are not new modern trailers and we think that adds to the appeal! However they are clean and cozy!Your trailer is down by the pond, the wildlife clay bottom is spring fed, swimming is allowed during daylight hours only and it is "Swim at your own Risk". Please read the house rules regarding rinsing off and refraining from getting suntan oil etc. in the pond.  We usually have wood on site for sale, advance request is much appreciated and please pay upon arrival with cash, $10 per ample bundle and $15 for a bag of charcoal.  We do not deliver after 5pm so please order in advance. PLEASE NOTE- you do not have our property to yourselves. We live onsite and on any given night, both trailers can be rented.
