We are offering the opportunity to stay on the back hill of our ten-acre rural property. You can go for walks around the pasture on our mowed trail or just sit and enjoy the beautiful Minnesota views. The site is on a gravel road and you cannot see our house from where the bus is parked. While you can see the neighbor's house, it is still very dark at night and excellent for stargazing. The bus will be disabled for guests; it will not start or move. While there are electric fans, AC, and a TV with DVD player, there is no electricity available (bring your own generator if you want). There is a cassette toilet with instructions.

The region was once the disputed territory of the Chippewa and Sioux tribes, where raiding parties created a challenging environment for early settlers. The first white explorer to traverse the future Benson area was Gideon S. Pond, an Indian missionary who sought to understand the local tribes' customs while accompanying a hunting party along the Chippewa River. It wasn't until after the Great Sioux Uprising that western Minnesota became a safe haven for white settlers. Ole Corneiliusen, a Norwegian immigrant, is believed to be the first permanent resident of the Benson area, arriving in 1866. By this time, the railroad had extended from Minneapolis to Delano, paving the way for increased settlement in western Minnesota. The early development of Benson and Swift County was closely tied to the railroad's expansion. In 1869, A.W. Lathrop and W.V. Lathrop opened the first general store in anticipation of the railroad's arrival. We enjoyed our stay so much! This is a lovely, quiet spot. Easy to find, but no highway noise. Check in was straightforward with great communication from the hosts. You can see the other sites, but they are comfortably separated. Beautiful sunset view from under the giant old oak tree shading our little camper. We were so happy to have had the opportunity to stay and would definitely recommend.

Edwin and his dogs, Sugar and Mulberry, were very welcoming and kind. Lots of goats, geese, chickens and ducks rambling around too! 🐐🪿🐓🦆🌞 The wide open sky and sunset were beautiful across the rolling fields. And there were also Fireflies! ✨ A simple and easy environment to rest and relax.

Weekend Trip to Bus on a hill

We biked from the twin cities out to “ the bus on the hill” and were thrilled with all communication before and during our trip, found the bus per their instructions no problem, we were appreciative of the bottled water available and the bug-less toilet Al, we had plenty of space for gear and comfortable bed to sleep on! The views were beautiful and was fun to have such a landscape view to wake up to! Pretty cozy table to enjoy dinner and a morning board game!

Had a relaxing and peaceful 1 night stay. Next to the barn is an accurate description and a line of trees gives you privacy. Charming property and Spot the dog is such a sweetie!! Sarah is very responsive and a great host.
