Our family moved from Metro Detroit area here to Mecosta in 2019 in search of a more fulfilling life. We have found just that with this beautiful property and in our homesteading and campground adventure. We were drawn to a calming and grounding energy in these trees; a feeling echoed by many who visit here. We expect you'll leave here feeling inspired and rejuvenated.Learn more about this land:Come enjoy 30 private acres of rolling forest with lots of Beech and Oak trees. We have two community camping areas, each large enough for up to 20 people. We also have a few more intimate spots for complete seclusion. These spots are suitable for about 4-6 people.  All rustic camping.  Toilets and handwashing stations on site. Extra vehicles, trailers, etc. can be parked in our gravel lot.  Ice and firewood available for sale on site.  The land borders 6000 acres of public wilderness including Martiny Chain of Lakes. Lots of hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, and river floating nearby. Nestled in Manistee National Forest is a family farm. Trailheads lead to hundreds of miles of public two-track, and the woods roll between oak/maple/beech and aspen/birch. On the farm is a 20 acre lake with a floating island, tent sites, and healthy ecosystems with plenty of wildlife. Our farm pastures pigs, cattle, sheep and poultry, investing in our dirt and our neighbors. We are provision family farms because we provide for our animals even as we are provided for. Drop on in at the house and we may have time for a little tour.In the woods is a small composting toilet, but you're welcome to fertilize our pastures anytime. There's also a shower available in the house. The best time to visit Michigan forests is in October when the leaves turn color and the nights are cool. The mosquitoes are done for the winter and the air is brisk.

I am creating a homestead based on simple but holistic living. The cabin was built built by myself with the help of family and friends. There are a number of trails to walk on the 35 private acreage of rolling hills. This heavily wooded land hosts much wildlife and beautiful scenery. There is a sport court which provides opportunities to play basketball, volleyball, pickleball, or badminton. The property is a work in progress with lots of plans for the future; including a food forest, natural pool, recreation building (being built summer 2022), and more.. The property offers a chance to reconnect with each other, yourself, or the natural world in a simplistic and harmonious way. I hope you come experience it! 35 private acres of forest on rolling hill terrain. Lots of wildlife nestled very close to the flat river; 30-40 minutes away from Grand Rapids. The Fred Meijer trail provides great biking or hiking opportunities. Lazy float tubing or kayaking down the flat river is very popular and only a short walk away. Horse back riding, golf courses, and an amazing local bakery all within a couple miles. And a fun sport court (basketball hoop, volleyball/badminton/pickelball net all right on site!

We have about 40 acres and trails through the area for exploring. You just may come across some "forts" constructed by some of our grandchildren. There is a large fire pit and plenty of firewood for a minimal cost. (Large trash can full. ) If you listen in the evening, you are likely able to hear a couple of owls talking back and forth. Usually you can see some deer and maybe some turkeys. There are many old pines around the property, the last remnants of our Christmas tree farm. There is no electricity in the cabin, but we do have two solar lights and some battery lights. If it's been rainy, the solar won't last as long as usual. If it's chilly, we do have a portable heater available. We have cornhole game available upon request and some table games kept in cabin. If you want to go biking, there is a trail in town, about 5 miles away.

Your Hosts - Dan and Arlene Cool: “We served as missionaries in South America for over 20 years. Our first assignment was in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, primarily at a school for missionary children, teaching Bible classes (Dan) and helping to start up and run a hot lunch program (Arlene). After this we ministered in Paraguay for 10 years. Our final years of missionary service were in Chile where we founded a missionary training school to train Chilean missionaries. Latin American students that we helped train are now serving around the world bringing hope and the Gospel to needy people. Harvest Village helps to support the ministries of our former students. We are excited to enter this new stage of our lives and to share our family’s centennial farm with people interested in healthier living and farm vacationing.”Your stay at Harvest Village helps bring hope to the hopeless; We set aside $1 /per guest, per night, to help our former students who are serving as missionaries in some of the neediest places around the world.

Beehive Air Therapy Cabin

* It is a well known fact that beekeepers live longer and healthier lives than other people. In our experience, when we open the cover on a vigorous hive we encounter a potent aerosol containing the most amazing scents from all of the treasures the bees are cultivating, such as essential oils from flowers, propolis and honey. The connection we have with these fascinating creatures also brings a feeling of gratitude and well-being. We want to provide a similar opportunity for you in a safe space within our medicinal apiary and small farm called New Earth Gardens. * It’s unique to find beehive air therapy & bee beds in North America and we are happy to offer this right here in Michigan. Located in a rural setting, nestled between the Canadian and Chippewa Lakes, countless other bodies of water, state forests, Amish communities and farms. Relax in this serene honeybee cabin, being very close to, yet separated from the bees by metal screens in the bee bed air vents. Observe the activity in the apiary and woodlands through a large window. Meditate, listen to or play music, or allow yourself to drift off to sleep. * The environment inside a beehive is one of the most clean and healthy spaces found in nature. It is anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-fungal and full of negative ions. The bee hive air permeates up through metal screen covered holes in the beds into the cabin filling it with wonderful fragrance. There are four colonies in each bed with populations averaging 240,000 bees per bed. The hum can be mesmerizing and creates a micro massage that can be healing in itself. The colony health is kept optimal and we plant an abundance of medicinal plants in our gardens for the bees to create the most beneficial quality of air inside the cabin. We also offer special breathing masks connected to a gentle forced air device that draws air through a tube from directly inside the hive for a more concentrated dosage of beehive air! * Included with Beehive air therapy and bee beds: your own respiratory apitherapy mask with one way valve * Access to the gardens, electricity including a small sound system, composting toilet, propane grill, camp fire pit, outdoor sink with running water are available for use. * Add-ons: Guided beekeeping tour, Sound & Reiki therapy, Henna

My wife and I are slowly starting up our own little farm. We have 2 indoor cats, 1 outdoor cat, a dog, chickens and lots of ducks. We also starting a business called River’s Edge Lavender which will be a upick lavender and wild flower farm. We are on 34 acres and have a river that runs through the middle of it. We are 10 minutes from Alma and 20 minutes from Mt Pleasant. Lumberjack park is about 2 minutes away and Stearns preserve is about 5 mins away where you can walk or ride bike on a nice paved trail. We have a small garden that we plant every summer that we use to stock our farm stand. Our farm stand provides veggies (when ready), chicken and ducks eggs, handmade crafts and items from our River’s Edge Lavender business. We are in a quiet area with lots of wildlife. We have 1 spot near the house with a view of the river that can support electric hook for a smaller RV and can attach a garden hose for water if needed. No public restroom available. We can also provide some fire wood for campfires for a cost that is located on the farm stand . Along the river fires are allowed but must be contained in a fire ring. If camping by the field fires will be dependent on conditions. We have 3 kayaks and a canoe that can be used with prior consent. There is a park up river where you can put in and then can exit at our house which is about an hour on the river. We are new to hosting so please provide us with feedback! We are working on the campsites so suggestions are welcome to what can make it better. A porta potty will be available in the future. Quiet time 11 pm. We are an easy going couple that just want to share this slice of paradise with others! WiFi available
