My dad had been selling Christmas trees since 1945 and when the milking got to be too much for my mom we converted it to a Christmas tree farm in 1979. Dave & I built our home here and continue the Christmas tree tradition as well as raise Haflinger horses, The sheep started as 4H projects for our kids in the 90's and now my daughter and I have a small flock. Located just a half mile from our farm you will have complete privacy, but are welcome to come visit the animals. Site includes a fire ring and picnic table. Our 120 acres are located about 10 miles off the highway in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There are state hiking and ATV trails within a couple of miles if you want to venture further than our property. Bring a camera as you will have plenty of opportunities to see wildlife. This campsite is remote and in a rural area, you never have to see another person if you choose not too. This is your best defense against Covid-19! We would like to take a moment and introduce ourselves. Our names are Tom and Heather Holmstrom. We were married in 2016 and have four children as part of our blended family. We are both originally from the Upper Peninsula. Superior Times Resort and Campground was the result of us wanting to do something “outside of the box” that would allow us to raise our family and show them there is more out there than the traditional path. We also wanted showcase our love and respect for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula; the area that many refer to as “God’s Country.”
In December of 2016, we mistakenly pulled into the driveway of this property. At that time, it was known as Coleman’s Paradise Resort. There was a For Sale sign marking the property. We both knew at that point our fate was sealed to become this property’s new owners. We learned that this property had been a family vacation destination for nearly 100 years. We could only imagine the special memories that had been made here over the years! We wanted to become a part of that deep history.
Through the many years of the resort’s history, the owners had changed and the cabins were showing true signs of their age. We knew there was A LOT of work that simply had to be done. On a wing and prayer, we somehow made this great resort ours. In April of 2017, we opened what we named Superior Times Resort and Campground. We pulled up or sleeves and went to work!
Thank you for choosing us and allowing us to be part of the memories that you create here. We know that you work hard for your own money, as we do. Knowing that you chose our resort to support, means a lot to our Superior Times and Resort family team. We truly appreciate your loyalty and give special thanks to our returning customers. Located in Christmas, which is less than 5 miles west of Munising, the beginning of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. We have one campsite with an RV on it that we rent out and then we have a campsite right next to our camper than you can bring your own RV to. We have a hose for water and offer a 30A or 50A electric hook up for your camper at our campsite. Our camper can sleep up to 3 people and we are dog friendly for one dog up to 50lbs. Our camper is a one bedroom with a queen bed and then a twin futon in the living area for an additional guest.

There was a great view of the lake and lots of nature all around! There are lots of cabins around so be sure you arrive at the correct one. The ground is full of clay and very red. There were a couple of big red beacon lights for atmospheric lighting that were sweet, plenty of room to set up tents.

I had such an incredible experience at Surf Camp—it truly was a delightfully enjoyable three-day adventure. From the stunning beach views to the many campfires each night and the relaxing sauna, everything came together to create the ultimate camping experience. It’s honestly hard to capture just how special this place is in a single review.
What really stood out, too, was the connection between camper and host. Communication was clear, thoughtful, and consistent from start to finish. They were attentive, quick to answer any questions, and genuinely receptive, which made the whole stay feel easy and welcoming.
I would absolutely recommend Surf Camp to anyone who has the chance to visit the Manistique area. It’s a place that sticks with you long after you leave.

Communication with Eli was prompt and efficient. All directions were very clear and thorough.
Road was plowed until the house just after the Surf Camp. The site itself was not plowed, but we were able to tuck the truck under some trees with little snow to get off the road.
Directions with sauna were very clear, thoroughly enjoyed the wood fired sauna! We used about 1.5 bundles to get it heated up in cold and snowy conditions.
We did not need the privy.
Property felt very private in the winter. Pups had the beach to themselves.

Kathy was amazing! We decided to take a chance and tent camp in late October. The site is very peaceful and she built firewood up for our first fire upon arrival. We left many things behind on the days we traveled to fish or hike with no worries. The river and woods are peaceful. Appreciate the water she leaves to clean hands and cookware! Such a beautiful, peaceful spot right on Lake Michigan! Tucked into a quiet cedar grove on the Garden Peninsula, the site offers a rare combination of off-grid tranquillity and direct access to the shoreline of Lake Michigan. The new wood-fired sauna was an absolute highlight, the perfect way to warm up after a swim! Waking up to the sound of waves, relaxing by the fire at night, and a true off-grid vibe. The fire-pit area in the trees provides a cosy, sheltered setting for an evening under the stars. There has been a lot of care put into this place.
If you’re looking for a beach-camp experience that feels more intimate and upgraded (thanks to the sauna!) rather than a busy campground, this spot is highly recommended. Ideal for folks who want to unplug, still have beach/morning water access, and enjoy a little extra luxury in the wild.
