Our sites have plenty of trees, no light pollution, access to ATV and hiking trails. Each site has a fire ring, trash can, picnic table and are large. Primitve sites have a fire ring only. Cross the seasonal pond tobe away from it all. But we are still 45 minutes away from Bangor and 30 from Dover Foxcroft. Drive to Belfast to the coast for the day(1 hour and 10) or enjoy nature at our off-grid property.

• There is a hammock with a shade cover at the cabin for you to use.
• There is a bug net provided in the cabin if you're in need of some extra protection indoors.
• Sunkhaze Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a short drive with a few hiking trails.
• Baxter State Park & Acadia National Park are each an hour and a half away (just in opposite directions).
• A composting toilet is on site, with a scoop and bucket of sawdust to cover waste. I you need to pee, find a tree! If it's number two, use the loo!
• No electricity at the cabin or on the property
• No running or potable drinking water. Must bring in water.
• The cabin is quite cozy for 1-2 people and/or 1-2 fur babies. The cabin itself has an 8x10’ floor plan with a full size futon. The deck gives another 3’ to enjoy your inside/outside stay.
• The property DOES get full sun so be aware of finding shade throughout the day! I like to enjoy the river(s) and explore the area during the peak heat hours!
• Mosquitos like to come out at dusk. I do have some citronella candles but it would be best if you came prepared with bug repellent!
• There is a New tiny cabin construction on site!
• This cabin is NOT private - one dwelling is visible but it is also NOT a rental.

This is a quaint, off grid cabin located in Elliotsville, Me., surrounded by wilderness, next to the Appalachian Trail in the 100 Mile Wilderness. Propane lights, glass front woodstove, fully operational kitchen, propane cookstove, fire pit out front, BBQ grill on porch. Firewood and propane and plenty of water at sink provided. 2 8ft kayaks for your use to explore all the ponds and lakes nearby. You can spend days or weeks exploring the area, hiking, biking, canoeing, mountain climbing and swimming. Its like going back in time a hundred years but you have some cell reception, unlike our ancestors. Have made several improvements to cabin not yet reflected in guest photos. Yeti type cooler provided for refrigeration of food for longer stays. The cabin is small but can accommodate 5 easily. Queen bed with bunk beds in 1st floor bedroom, full size and twin bed in upstairs bedroom. Clean linens provided. Open kitchen and living room. Seems like most people love it. Pretty sure you will too. So much to do in the area. Be as bored or as active as you want. Welcome book with directions to local spots all very close. Waterfalls, the most beautiful lake (Onawa), swimming holes... all close by. Appalachian trail out back. Other sites close by must be driven to but close by still, away from town. Thank you to my guests for uploading photos. I'm not good at that so I rely on you.

Spacious Skies Balsam Woods is a hidden paradise of a campground located right in the heart of Maine, just a half hour south of Moosehead Lake, the largest lake in Maine, and 60 miles as the crow flies from the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, Mt. Katahdin, in Baxter State Park.
We offer both wooded and open sites that can accommodate most rigs. Each site includes a picnic table, fire ring, water, 30 or 50-amp electrical service, and most offer sewer. Groups and tent campers are welcome.
Balsam Woods campground is less than a minute’s drive from Piper Pond, a 2-mile-long lake with public boat launch and beach access. Big Moose Inn Cabins & CampgroundIrving O. Hunt and his brother Lyman built some rough camps on Millinocket Lake before they became interested in the Nesowadnehunk Stream region. Whether or not their old camps were at the same site as the present camps on Millinocket Lake we do not know.The Millinocket Lake Camps, known today as Big Moose Inn, are located on a narrow spit of land separating Ambejejus Lake and Millinocket Lake. Before a dam controlled Ambajejus’ water level, it was possible to pole up the short stream from Millinocket Lake into Ambejejus.Fred Spencer build the camps, originally named Camp Eureka, in 1899 or 1900 and ran them with his brother. With the founding of Millinocket only a few years earlier and lumbering roads nearing Katahdin, the two lakes became more easily accessible. Camp Eureka was advertised as the only camp reachable by both boat (from Norcross) and road (from Millinocket). In 1905, the rate was $1.50 per day, meals included. Spencer also claimed the lakes had no flies or mosquitoes during spring and summer- a phenomenon caused by the way winds blow across the lakes, which makes it difficult for insects to gain a foothold.The camps’ name changed to Camp Spencer and later to Spencer’s Camps. Around 1929 the lease was transferred to Elmer Woodworth, who lived with his wife on a nearby island while they operated the camps. Elmer, a well-known guide, trapped over the winter, and his wife served as the camp cook. The couple soon renamed the camps Millinocket Lake Camps and Trading Post. They also maintained an outlying camp on Sandy Stream for their guests. In 1941, a major fire broke out in the area. The Woodworths saved the camps by wetting them down, but lost their island home when a stray spark jumped the cove. There is some evidence that, for a short time, a gentleman named Johnny Given either held the lease or managed the camps for the Woodworths. Except for that brief change the Woodworths operated the camps for many years until they passed the lease on to their son Ray, who ran them with his wife Muriel.In 1977, the lease was transferred to Bob and Frederica (“Teddy”) Boynton, who in 1981 sold the trading post to Erwin and Maureen Bacon. The Boyntons retained the sporting camp operation and later added a public restaurant. Teddy renamed the camps Big Moose Inn. Bob and his son Bruce made many renovations to the camps, while Teddy decorated and furnished them. The Boynton Family has remained involved in the success of the inn and restaurant. After Teddy’s death in 1991, management passed to Bruce and his sister Laurie, but Bob and other family members are still very involved.The dam separates the flowages of the two lakes. Millinocket Lake is about eight feet above its original level, and Ambajejus is now some 21 feet above its original level. We are building a large pavilion for events. Behind this area there is a rolling hill which overlooks Dixmont mountains. Amazing camping gem on the river! Ample parking and plenty of space for several tents. Beautiful and scenic views! We went with our boys and their friends, famiky near by came to visit and fish! We had atvs and enjoyed riding! And I must say, that has to be the nicest outhouse we have ever seen! The campground is nice and groomed and kept up beautifully! Lots of wood provided! We can't wait to book again! Highly recommend!

We loved the property so much! We had plenty of space to set up our tent, and there is a fire ring there that we used to cook. Kyle was so nice and friendly. He checked up on us when we first arrived and told us history about the area and his property. The lake is by far the best part. We spent the day kayaking and exploring the islands in the middle of the lake. Kyle made sure we knew how to get on the kayak and gave us advice on how to kayak. We also spent some time sitting on the dock and looking at fish and for ducks! We definitely want to come back and highly recommend it!

Have the Maine woods for yourself! It’s a Gem, the campgrounds are amazing, super private and peaceful, but the Cabin it’s something else! It feels like the wonderland! Having that tittle cabin for yourself by the beautiful Douglas pond, full of fish, it’s something that you can’t describe here, you have to live it to feel it! The hosts are awesome and make sure to ask for the menu, you won’t find fresher food anywhere! Me and my family looved and coming back soon ❤️

Our second trip to Piscataquis Point was great. The river was nice and high. We saw a canoe go by which was quite the contrast from our trip in October after that long drought.
There were tons of Tiger Swallowtails puddling along the river banks and a double sunbow that made the quiet trip magical. Campsites are beautifully kept up, plenty of firewood, and the outhouse is clean and has a few handy things you might have forgotten.
The grill for the fire pit is sweet, we didn’t pack our propane grill this time because it was so convenient.
The host Kyle is very responsive to messages making it easy and stress free.

This site exceeded expectations!! It was so beautiful and an awesome place to unwind. Claude had the campsite stocked with fire wood and tiki torches - he came around to make sure we were all good! The shoreline is great and super spacious - we hung there all day! There are kayaks available if you want them and the port a potty was super clean! Will 100000% stay again. Thank you!

This spot is so beautiful! It’s private, peaceful and so far away from everyone. It was the perfect spot to unplug and unwind. My fiancé and I had originally booked it for one night but we extended it another night and canceled plans to camp anywhere else. The bathroom was so clean, bug spray available (thank god because we forgot ours) and wood on site. We loved this spot and plan to come back again soon 🙌❤️

This camp was absolutely amazing. Water was a bit high & fast for fly fishing, but it didn’t matter all that much. Spent most of Saturday in the tent due to rain, but it finally cleared up late afternoon. Will definitely book this site again.

This place is a gem. Not too far off the beaten path, but it feels like something out of the white mountains, with a scenic river bend and swift flowing water. The sites were well thought out and cared for, free firewood being a bonus, along with very nice fire pits. The kids were in heaven exploring the river banks.
