The campground eventually closed in the 1990s and sat untouched for over 15 years—its trails, clearings, and old campsites slowly reclaimed by the woods. The land waited, quietly, for someone to bring it back to life. In the years that followed, Caleb, a longtime local operator on the island, took interest in the property. Recognizing both its history and its potential to offer people a deeper experience of Deer Isle’s natural beauty, he began the process of carefully restoring and reopening the land. Working season by season, Caleb rebuilt the sites, added new infrastructure, re-established utilities, and designed a campground that honors the land’s roots while offering a comfortable, modern, and nature-forward experience for today’s guests. In July 2020, the property reopened under a new name: Four Acre Woods. Today, it blends the spirit of the original Sunshine Campground with thoughtful stewardship, simple comforts, and a deep respect for the forest that surrounds it. A few foundations are still visible along with a couple old dug wells and dumps with old bottles. We now own 365 acres that was named Texas Four Corners (no one knows why) in the middle of 1,600 undeveloped acres with the closest inhabited house from our property is over a half mile away. 15 Mile Stream runs thru the property. 16 miles to Common Ground Fair in Unity. 15 miles to Waterville and 28 miles to Belfast.

To enter, turn onto Powers Drive and take a sharp left into the first driveway and onto the grass back toward rte 1. Park parallel with Powers Drive Lane near the big oaks. Pajaritaflora Artist Studio/Gallery is located here. I am an artist. Welcome to my studio property. There is a long spacious spot for most sizes RV. It has level grass for you to park on. There is a group fire pit area on the grounds for everyone. Many people do not need electricity these days. So I have lowered the price of the spot. It is without electricity. You can add it on if you wish at $20 per night. You will need a long extension, and it is 20 amps. I have water for your holding tank. Sorry, no sewer. This is an excellent spot for a short stay. It is good if you need to be here a couple of days prior to your campground stay! I have been enjoying hosting campers here for the past two seasons. I can't wait to meet you! This is my third season here.

There are a number of GREAT small bass ponds in our area just minutes away! Also, disc golf and 3 local trails- STREAKED MOUNTAIN TRAIL, PACKARD TRAIL, and the LOWELL TRAIL are within a 10 minute drive. ******RV campers will appreciate our 50 amp and 30 amp service options. This property is an excellent location near Acadia National Park, Blue Hill, Bangor, and Belfast Maine. It is on RTE 1. The lot is a large, grass, pull-through location. Please read the description carefully. The location is on the corner of RTE 1 and Powers Drive Lane. To enter, turn onto Powers Drive and take a sharp left into the first driveway and onto the grass back toward rte 1. Park parallel with Powers Drive Lane near the big oaks. Pajaritaflora Artist Studio/Gallery is located here. I am an artist. Welcome to my studio property. There is a long spacious spot for most sizes RV. It has level grass for you to park on. There is a group fire pit area on the grounds for everyone. Many people do not need electricity these days. So I have lowered the price of the spot. It is without electricity. You can add it on if you wish at $20 per night. You will need a long extension, and it is 20 amps. I have water for your holding tank. Sorry, no sewer. This is an excellent spot for a short stay. It is good if you need to be here a couple of days prior to your campground stay! I have been enjoying hosting campers here for the past two seasons. I can't wait to meet you! Weekend Trip to 100 Mile Wilderness Cabin
This was our second visit to Paul's cabin and did not disappoint again. Paul made sure there was enough water and wood to last our stay. There is now a flushing toilet outside which was a nice treat. There are many fantastic walking trails close by including the Appalachian Trail. This time round we spent time at North Pond and Juniper Knee Pond and hiked 4ish hour to Little Wilson Falls (there and back and time at the falls).

Absolutely wonderful people and great space! Chris and Lisa were kind enough to let me sleep inside as it was snowy and cold at nighttime when I arrived with my dog, as only one other guest was staying. Lisa also offered the other guest and I breakfast; she makes great gluten-free vegan pancakes & the Appalachian Trail hiker had eggs, too. They have a beautiful philosophy of giving back, very cute donkeys, and I just feel so fortunate to have met them… all! Thank you so much! Hope to see you again, soon!

We absolutely loved our stay at Four Acre Woods Campground. If anything we wish we had stayed longer! The campsite was out on a very quiet island, truly not too far from our outings. We stayed on the primitive secluded site which was absolutely perfect. It was very spacious, with tons of privacy, located steps away from the community cabin. We wish we had more time to enjoy the community cabin as it was warm, filled with books, games, cookware, utensils, lanterns, ice, tea, coffee, local guides and cozy sofas. Our campsite additionally had a private walk way to the bathrooms, which we were pleasantly surprised by for a campsite! The shower was equipped with shampoo, conditioner and body wash if needed, and the bathroom was as clean as you could possibly expect a campsite bathroom to be! Firewood was easy to purchase and bring over to our campsite which we appreciated. The hosts were very kind and helpful and we truly hope to be back again next year to hopefully spend a much longer stay at the four acre woods and get a chance to experience the onsite sauna :) thanks so much for having us! Would 110% recommend. (Ps. Just beware of deer and wildlife on the drive in, it is deer isle after all ;) )

Quarrys Ledge was wonderful ! From the hospitable staff to the beautiful grounds, we had a great stay! The bathrooms were definitely note worthy as well, always clean and stocked. We stayed in a waterfront site which was definitely worth the extra money in my opinion. However, even the other campsites looked great. I also love that they gave an option to add firewood to the reservation - saved us a trip to the store! I highly recommend and would come back again!

This campground was the perfect place for us "home" during our fall visit to Acadia. We are a self-contained unit when we are on the road. That being said, it was nice to hook upto power and refill our water tank during our stay. It was also nice to have hot showers available. The campground was quiet at night. I slept well at night. The site was very close to all of the hikes on MDI. Some just down the road, trailheads no more than a 30 minute drive away. The site firm ground and fairly level. Perfect for our campervan. Being on the westside of MDI, it is away from the constant traffic that you face near Bar Harbor. We would recommend staying here.

We have four (8) studio kitchenettes with various bed configurations, and two (2) hotel style rooms that have a coffee pot, microwave and fridge. Already meeting new campers. Hopefully I'll see some familiar faces from 2022. A few upgrades. There is an outside water faucet, an outlet and an outside shower...hot and a privacy fence. There is a bathroom/shed that contains a toilet. Goats are coming. Yes goats. Not until fall though. The frog pond population continues to grow. A neighboring town is finding 3 legged frogs in their ponds. Apparently caused by a parasite. Let me know if you find any. 2024 was another great season. New faces that I hope to see again. The summer weather was great for camping. A large Bell Tent and a small portable camper was purchased for those who are seeking more of a glamping experience. WELCOME BACK for 2026... 2025 had some complications unfortunately. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I was unable to invite anyone to my property. Consider yourself invited for the 2026 season. You are invited to play, stroll and relax in the meadows and northern forest lands of this 90 acre property. Enjoy a walk along the pond, the brook or the Medicine Wheel. The land offers a food forest of fruit, nut and sugar trees with gardens of wild edibles and medicinal plants. Botanica offers tent sites, yurts/yomes and RV spots (without hook up's). Indoor and outdoor bathroom facilities and showers are available. We host a communal camp fire if desired, and a hot drink at breakfast. We are a project in progress, turning a run-down potato farm to an aspiring center for education and planetary healing. Currently, we are recovering the farm house and adjacent structures with the generous assistance of a group of volunteers and we are endeavoring to bring the soil on the land back to life by making the land accessible to a nearby regenerative farmer. We are near to Richmond village, where there are several dining and take out options, as well as a small grocer, and hardware store. There is little we need that we can't get right in Richmond. This is our first foray into opening the farm up to the public. We hope to host folks that wish to be within , and among the farms workings. The comings and goings of the produce and the people who care for it, are a peaceful back drop, making it feel like a farming neighborhood. The tiny house for rent, is situated with an ideal view of all farm operations, while also feeling private and tucked away. It has a kitchen, hammock and pic table, and is within 100 feet of bath/shower, and parking. Guests can walk the gardens, sit by the pond, walk down to the tidal falls, walk the hundreds of acres of conservation land adjacent to the farm, or check out the abandoned rail line, which folks can walk to town on. From Bowdoinham , folks can strike out to all Maine's attractions. 30 minutes to Harpswell, 45 minutes to Popham, 45 minutes to Reid, 45 minutes to Boothbay, and the Botanical Gardens; about an hour and a half to Western destinations, falls, mountains, lakes. 2 hours from MDI.
