Very convenient stay. Terrific communication, very clean bathroom and shower.
Everything at the site was exactly as described and photos showed. It was a comfortable and easy overnight stay and I appreciated having the full shower and bathroom available! I would absolutely stay again when in Machias.
I truly enjoyed my stay. The Hosts are wonderful people. Clean area. The kitchen and bathroom area look brand new.

Don't stay if traveling with dogs

Downeast Retreat RV Site
Do not recommend if you're traveling with dogs. The owners keep their dog off leash and let her roam around the entire day and well into the night. She was continuously running right past my motorhome. I was afraid I was going to hit her with my car and couldn't take my dog out to potty before bed.
With that said, the facilities were immaculate. Everything was very well cleaned and what a luxury to have a walk in shower and laundry after being on the road for a while. Both the owners and the host were very friendly.
This RV lodging opportunity is a unique and wonderful place. Our RV spot was in the Lee of the large barn, with a nice breeze and shade. It had 50 amp, 30 amp and 110 V hook ups. Also, water. There was a fire pit and a large pile of firewood available. We also had a nice outdoor table and four chairs to use.
Our hosts were wonderful, hospitable, and caring.
There was also room to park one’s car next to the RV.
The RV site was clean, it had modern hook ups for 50 amp, 30 amp and 110 V. It also had a well positioned water spigot. They were emptying location was around the corner and one could park next to it to dump. I believe ours was one of three sites at this location. It was alongside the shady side of a large beautiful barn that has been completely renovated. On the other side was a wooded tract which gave us birds, beautiful, healthy trees, and privacy.
We had the access of a modern well equipped bathroom and mini kitchen in one part of the barn, which one could walk to easily, skirting around another parked RV and a few trailers.
Our RV site also had a nicely developed campfire ring with four chairs around it.
The ground was covered with beautiful stones made of crushed granite.
Towels, hand towels and face cloths were supplied in the bathroom, also bath and hand soap, shampoo, and conditioner.
The bathroom and kitchen were shared with two efficiencies on the first floor inside the barn and the 3 RV sites and tent site.
The hosts were welcoming, knowledgeable, caring, and helpful.
The location was in easy distance from restaurants, auto repair places, a grocery store, gas stations, nature trails, and beautiful beaches.
I would recommend this RV site highly.

Downeast Retreat RV Site
This was the first time camping since childhood, and it was also the first trip alone with three dogs while preparing for a cross country adventure. The owners made the entire experience feel safe, welcoming, and comfortable. Everything needed for a relaxing stay was provided, and at times it even felt like having the whole place to ourselves, which made it incredibly peaceful.
This is the perfect spot for anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle and simply enjoy some quiet. It was reassuring to discover such kind, genuine people in an area that was completely unfamiliar. Already in the process of booking another stay, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful camping experience.
An interesting place! High class brand new bathroom, laundry included, lovely kitchenette. Super nice hostess named Anne and her doggy Maggie.… It’s a great stop over for getting sorted out and cleaned up. I rented the tent area. Some highway traffic noise but didn’t keep me awake. No views or anything, but a high-quality facility, safe; and I would recommend it for a stop over.
Not a scenic spot per se, but a great option as a base camp for exploring anything local to Machias/port. A small fridge and microwave, plus a clean bathroom and shower, plus laundry washer/dryer and a raised tent platform means you don’t have to worry much about the rough edges of camping.
What stood out for us about Downeast Retreat was the hospitality, the efficient, clean and the aesthetically pleasing venue itself. The facilities and amenities were modern, well taken care of and thoughtfully set up.
This is a unique property that offer offers comfortable and well designed suites, tenting, and RV spots.
The location is private, quiet and close to many interesting opportunities for hiking, biking, four wheeling, boating, and exploring.
The hosts are professional, friendly and helpful.
It was nice to experience the sounds of the surrounding woods, meet interesting people who stayed at this location, feel safe and well taken care of.
We have been impressed with the level of quality in the RV site amenities, the design of space., and staff support.
The site we have (between the red barn and woods) is private, in the shade, and has a modern water and electrical hookup. Also, a nice patio table and chairs. Sewer hookups are across the front yard.
One shares the use of a well appointed bathroom (with shower, sink, toilet, mirror, soaps, facecloths, hand towels, towels and coded access) with guests of an efficiency, a raised tent site, and the RV sites.
There are campfire rings, pleasant granite crushed rock yard cover,, well taken care of flowers in pots, landscaping, dry firewood, shared outdoor patio table, chairs and a hibachi grill, security lighting, and warm, caring welcoming hosts.
We would definitely recommend this unique camping opportunity.
This was a great little spot to use as a base camp to check out downeast Maine. The folks running it were super friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable of the area for any recommendations you might need. The facilities were great and it was very easy access. I’d definitely stay again!

Very clean facilities, very easy parking, very gratious hosts!
This site is next to a large barn that was turned into a vacation rental with multiple rooms. There's a kitchen, laundry and bathroom available for the RVers to use also. It's a quiet place. The RV site is all rocks with grass around 2 sides. I would stay again if ever in the area. The sewer dump is not close enough to hook up but is available to dump any time. The hosts are very nice and helpful.

Had a great time here and enjoyed talking with the owners who were great host! There was water and electric hookups available as well as a dump station just around the corner of the building.There was also a nice bathroom and shower inside as well as a washer and dryer.Highly recommended and we hope to come back soon!
Perfect spot to start exploring Downeast. Was a quiet location and a massive benefit having a very nicely renovated bathroom and laundry room. The hosts were super friendly and gave some good info for some spots to explore!

Great base camp for adventures, not for privacy though. Everything is as it appears in pics but it does not mention there are multiple occupants of what appears to be apartments, or show the opposite angles. A lot of barking throughout the stay. Not bad at all, and definitely perfect for many, I’m tend to like my solitude more than what the site offered.

I enjoyed this site t's centrally located to places i wanted to see . This is a suburban site, so you're not off in the woods but right up there with the owners who are really nice people who'll stop and talk with ya and leave ya be too. They're working on a bath house which will make it even better. I's recommend this site with the suburban aspect in mind

Really great spot to recharge. There is electricity, water, and coming soon they will have laundry and coffee. I am excited to take advantage of that when I come back. There is a cute communal fire pit with complimentary firewood (my favorite). I got to meet the couple who owns the land and they were so so sweet.
We had a great time camping on Katelin’s land! We felt extremely comfortable and had a wonderful quiet camping experience!
