Big Moose Inn Cabins & CampgroundIrving O. Hunt and his brother Lyman built some rough camps on Millinocket Lake before they became interested in the Nesowadnehunk Stream region. Whether or not their old camps were at the same site as the present camps on Millinocket Lake we do not know.The Millinocket Lake Camps, known today as Big Moose Inn, are located on a narrow spit of land separating Ambejejus Lake and Millinocket Lake. Before a dam controlled Ambajejus’ water level, it was possible to pole up the short stream from Millinocket Lake into Ambejejus.Fred Spencer build the camps, originally named Camp Eureka, in 1899 or 1900 and ran them with his brother. With the founding of Millinocket only a few years earlier and lumbering roads nearing Katahdin, the two lakes became more easily accessible. Camp Eureka was advertised as the only camp reachable by both boat (from Norcross) and road (from Millinocket). In 1905, the rate was $1.50 per day, meals included. Spencer also claimed the lakes had no flies or mosquitoes during spring and summer- a phenomenon caused by the way winds blow across the lakes, which makes it difficult for insects to gain a foothold.The camps’ name changed to Camp Spencer and later to Spencer’s Camps. Around 1929 the lease was transferred to Elmer Woodworth, who lived with his wife on a nearby island while they operated the camps. Elmer, a well-known guide, trapped over the winter, and his wife served as the camp cook. The couple soon renamed the camps Millinocket Lake Camps and Trading Post. They also maintained an outlying camp on Sandy Stream for their guests. In 1941, a major fire broke out in the area. The Woodworths saved the camps by wetting them down, but lost their island home when a stray spark jumped the cove. There is some evidence that, for a short time, a gentleman named Johnny Given either held the lease or managed the camps for the Woodworths. Except for that brief change the Woodworths operated the camps for many years until they passed the lease on to their son Ray, who ran them with his wife Muriel.In 1977, the lease was transferred to Bob and Frederica (“Teddy”) Boynton, who in 1981 sold the trading post to Erwin and Maureen Bacon. The Boyntons retained the sporting camp operation and later added a public restaurant. Teddy renamed the camps Big Moose Inn. Bob and his son Bruce made many renovations to the camps, while Teddy decorated and furnished them. The Boynton Family has remained involved in the success of the inn and restaurant. After Teddy’s death in 1991, management passed to Bruce and his sister Laurie, but Bob and other family members are still very involved.The dam separates the flowages of the two lakes. Millinocket Lake is about eight feet above its original level, and Ambajejus is now some 21 feet above its original level. Tucked among spruce, fir, and birch on Sunshine Island in Deer Isle–Stonington, Four Acre Woods began more than 60 years ago as a small, family-run campground known as Sunshine Campground. Travelers from across the world visited this quiet island forest, drawn to its raw beauty and the peaceful energy that generations before us had loved and cared for.
The campground eventually closed in the 1990s and sat untouched for over 15 years—its trails, clearings, and old campsites slowly reclaimed by the woods. The land waited, quietly, for someone to bring it back to life.
In the years that followed, Caleb, a longtime local operator on the island, took interest in the property. Recognizing both its history and its potential to offer people a deeper experience of Deer Isle’s natural beauty, he began the process of carefully restoring and reopening the land.
Working season by season, Caleb rebuilt the sites, added new infrastructure, re-established utilities, and designed a campground that honors the land’s roots while offering a comfortable, modern, and nature-forward experience for today’s guests.
In July 2020, the property reopened under a new name: Four Acre Woods.
Today, it blends the spirit of the original Sunshine Campground with thoughtful stewardship, simple comforts, and a deep respect for the forest that surrounds it. Visitors once again gather under the birches and spruces—sharing campfires, slow mornings, quiet nights, and the timeless island calm that makes this land so special.

Since the 1980s, we have worked to restore the soil and make a "hand-built" life as farmers using pre-industrial organic methods. We maintain pollinator habitats, tend an fledgling orchard of heirloom-variety fruit trees, and conserve rare heritage-breed animals, including Tamworth pigs and Scottish Highland Cattle. Our shared love for Celtic folk culture has blended naturally with our love of sustainable agriculture to create Tir na nOg Farm. Today, the work of restoration continues with the help of farm partners, family, friends, WWOOFers, and other volunteers. Jamberry Farm owners Adrienne and James met in 2013 while living in Denver, Colorado. They spent 10 fun-filled and adventurous years traveling throughout the Western U.S. After having their first child in 2019, they moved to Oregon to be part of a team opening an inn on the Oregon Coast.
When COVID-19 began in early 2020, the couple saw the writing on the wall and decided to make their dream of owning property in Maine a reality. In August 2020, they purchased Jamberry Farm and moved to Harrison, Maine.
The 33-acre budding homestead sits atop a hill in Southern Maine’s Lakes and Mountains Region. Harrison is a charming small town situated between Long Lake and Crystal Lake. In town, you’ll find everything you need for a visit to small-town New England. There are two general stores, a restaurant, an ice cream shop, a library, and a post office.
Should you need or want access to more, it’s a short drive to the larger towns of Norway and Bridgton, about an hour to Portland, and approximately 45 minutes to North Conway, New Hampshire, and the White Mountains. A 5- to 20-minute drive will take you to beautiful scenic hikes, cozy lake beaches, and meandering rivers where you can float or fish.
The farm is truly in the perfect location to experience all that this part of New England has to offer.
James and Adrienne have always enjoyed hosting friends and family from near and far. Adrienne has a degree in Hospitality Management and spent her career working in the service industry until she stepped away to stay home with her children. James is a carpenter whose craftsmanship shines through in projects all around the property, including their flagship rental accommodation, The Tiny House.
Jamberry Farm is a place where both of their experience and expertise come together to create a unique and personalized experience for their guests. It is their hope that when people come to stay at the farm, they feel safe, connected to the nature around them, and grounded in the peace and stillness that a slower life on a farm has to offer.

Welcome to Lilac Firefly! This is a residential 7 acre property in a quiet and safe neighborhood. We are right off the main road for easy access about 15-20 minutes south of Bangor. It is very peaceful and calm here. We live in the 5 bedroom older farmhouse where you can use the bathroom if needed. You will receive a code for the electronic door lock. Upon booking, I will send a welcome email with all info needed for your stay. There is a small stream and community fireplace by the 4 campsites and another fireplace closer to the garden. The designated campsites are at the rear of the property and are first come, first serve. A tent can be set up anywhere on the 7 acres and does not need to be in the designated campsite area. We have easily accommodated 20+ campers at once (6-8 groups), though typically you might be the only group here. Car camping, van life, and tents are welcome! We previously accepted RVs, but for 2026 this has changed due to tenants now in an RV. There are some lightly wooded areas, apple trees, a pear tree, and an open field. We are pet friendly and there animals that live here too. I travel a lot as a DJ and audio tech and might not be here, but have a self check in process and video I will send. Roommates are generally here. Maine Savings Amphitheatre is 15 min away (concerts in Bangor). Acadia National Park is just over 1 hour away. Bangor and Bucksport are both about 15 min away. Fort Knox is about 20 min away. From the campsites, the road and house are not visible. We have flowers when in season, deer, turkey, birds, and friendly creatures that visit.
Please be ready to be self sufficient and sustainable in any weather. Well water is available, and passes all tests - pure and safe for drinking.
Chopped, split, and dried wood (pine) is available included in your Hipcamp fee! You can burn what you need for the day/night. Thank you.
Sometimes we get campers who are going to a concert in Bangor, which is awesome. Any hours coming and going are fine! Feel free to reach out with any questions.

A private wooded lot on a road with farms and woodland. Some road noise from Middlesex road during commuting times that quiets down for sleeping. Topsham is lovely and I'm grateful to live here and share this space with travelers!
My site is designed to be low-priced, easy in-out, and a convenient stop-over for the traveler.

Please consider that we might be on the lower property during the middle of the day: 11am-4pm, which matches most of our visitors needs as they are using the property as an evening and morning stopover.
Fires are not allowed when the fire danger is High through Extreme. We will talk about fire safety if the danger level is Moderate. Thanks for being safe!
Things to do in area:
Midcoast Maine has an endless bounty of treasures for visitors in all seasons. Hiking, biking, boating, history, art, swimming, food, and cultural events with beautiful nature surrounding it all. Closest to site: The Tarbox Preserve, a Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust property with hiking and skiing, is 2 lots up the road. The lovely Head of Tide park with a small waterfall is 2.2 miles to the west.
Grocery: Our towns (Topsham and Brunswick) have several grocery stores: Hannaford, Shaw's, Market Basket, and a wonderful natural foods store. We have many farm stands with organic and locally grown produce closely nearby - ask us to help you locate them!
Food: Brunswick is restaurant and brewery heaven! Amazing beers, wood fired pizza, sushi, Thai, Vietnamese, Greek, German, Filipino, deli, Fusion and more!
Harpswell Heritage Land Trust trails are dog-friendly and on the beautiful Maine coast.

Get your "groove" on or hang loose here on a precious little island with a big bridge just off route one in the heart of Midcoast. Hundreds of guests report the perfect balance of upbeat fun and chill time and call our place and hospitality "magic", "amazing" and "holy guacamole!" It is a lovely spot just off the beaten path but close enough to access the frey. :)
I welcome my guests personally and have likely had a chat before you booked. I like to know what your hopes and priorities are around your stay before I accept so I can meet both of our needs. When you arrive, I will greet you and share a little history/tour of the place. I accept travelers between 4 and 9 pm but like all of us schedules fluctuate and we can roll some. There's a strong chance on an average Maine clear summer evening, I have the campfire going and the solar lights around the yard are charged for their evening gentle show.
All of the spaces I rent are bedrooms only. You walk a few steps/yards to my 5 bedroom home and access two showers and some kitchen use. I also have an outdoor shower and outdoor kitchen that is cute and for your use. It's fun to cook on the fire too! I prefer folks to limit cooking esp in hot weather but support healthier eating and may share some of my foraging tips. The rooms are equipped with plenty of linens and fan power. You will be cozy either way the temps go.
There is a lovely porch on the log home where you can sit and enjoy the sunset and lots of wildlife activity. The back yard has tether ball and lots of seating as well as the good sized fire pit with ghosts of hundreds of fireside chats gone by. I look forward to ours!
Next door there is a gravel road on a lightly traveled road for your walking or biking pleasure. I am happy to join you in a hilly roller coaster cycling experience and have a few bikes to offer up. I am a WWOOF host and have occasional "helpers" and you are welcome to explore my veggie and flower gardens.

The sounds of the night are magical here We have a variety of choices . The Biker’s Bunkhouse is ideal for motorcycle travelers as it shelters both the guest and the Bike/s. The Cadillac Mountain View Loft is a comfortable bedroom with a beautiful view and plenty of shelter. Rough and Raw allows for clothing optional tent/hammock stays. Camping With Wolves sites are versatile and used by tents/hammocks/rooftents/rvs/buses or whatever you use. With each listing be sure to READ all the information and the rules. If you are interested in a spontaneous camping adventure, if your luggage got lost or if you just don’t want to deal with transporting camping gear we have a variety of rental equipment. Last minute reservation requests may not work via the reservation site but we may very likely have a space. It is important that you also check back to your app to see if they ( hipcamp) have sent you communication pertinent to your reservation.

We invite you to come stay at our location in the Western Maine mountains. We are located off of the Long Falls Dam Rd in Carrying Place Township, in the heart of Maine's wilderness. Our property offers beautiful mountain views; many nearby hiking trails; nearby swimming, boating, fishing and kayaking at Flagstaff Lake; along with numerous back roads to explore and look for wildlife. You can also find ATV trails about a half hour drive away in the town of Kingfield. Ensure you are guaranteed a spot just outside the Bigelow Preserve and everything it has to offer. We look forward to your visit.
Our sites sit behind a locked gate that is monitored 24/7 with a security camera. Also, although we are remote, we do offer Wi-Fi for your convenience.
Please take note that our sites are remote. We may be right off a paved road, but the closest town with a store is a half an hour drive. Also be mindful that this is the Maine wilderness, there are wild animals that frequent our location, along with biting insects such as deer flies and mosquitoes. This truly is a beautiful location, but please be sure to pack accordingly for your stay.

We enjoyed the close proximity to Kennebunkport. The camp had a nice fenced off-leash area for our dogs to run in. We also enjoyed the ability to walk on the quiet drive and the host’s gardens. The property is kept us well and is very comfortable.

There are places you stay, and then there are places that somehow feel like they were exactly what your soul needed at exactly the right time. Jamberry Farm was the latter for me.
From the moment I arrived, I felt an incredible sense of peace, comfort, and solitude. The property is absolutely beautiful, and there is something so special about being surrounded by nature, quiet, and the simple beauty of the farm. It was the kind of place where I could finally exhale, slow down, and just be.
I was especially grateful for how comfortable and safe I felt here. It never felt like I was simply another guest passing through. There was a warmth and thoughtfulness to the experience that made the stay feel personal and genuinely welcoming.
Jamberry Farm gave me something I desperately needed: a little solitude, a little beauty, and a chance to reset. I left with so much gratitude for this place and the people who have created such a beautiful little retreat.
I would absolutely stay here again and hope I get the opportunity to return someday, and hopefully for a longer visit next time. ❤️

Adrienne and James were very welcoming! The campsite was nearby their farm, the farm animals were an added bonus. The two tent sites were on flattened sand pads, close enough to the home to grab water or wash dishes, but with privacy supplies by a field of flowers and some trees. The composting toilet took a little walk to get to but had lots of privacy and was very clean. Best of all, there were no mosquitoes to bug us. I would recommend and would stay again!

A pleasant and peaceful campsite with a good sense of privacy from the road and house. You can hear a bit of highway traffic from the site, but it wasn’t disruptive. Some mosquitoes, but that’s to be expected. It was a smooth and nice visit.

This was a beautiful campsite! It was so lovely to fall asleep listening to the frogs in the pond, there's also a picnic table which provided the perfect setting for our oyster dinner.
There's water available if you need to fill up drink bottles etc, just look for a hose down by the main house.

Adrienne’s land offered us a very unique place to stay. It was essentially a tiny house on wheels, very comfortable.
We went to the homestead to watch the meter showers and it did not disappoint.
There were no mosquitoes! Not one bite laying out in there field. Not sure if that’s a good thing, but it does make the stay comfortable.

What a beautiful campground and location! We spent 3 relaxing nights, loved the common cabin and coffee, and the sauna was awesome. The whole place has a campsite + hostel vibe. The split wood was a bit damp but we split it into smaller pieces and that helped. A bit pricey overall but a really nice place to stay to explore the area. We would have recommended it to friends already and would return ourselves!
