Four Acre Woods Campground

14 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents4 acres · Deer Isle, ME
A beautiful island campground thickly forested with spruce, fir, and birch, Four Acre Woods was created over 60 years ago on Sunshine Island, Maine. Under the name Sunshine Campground, it hosted people from all over the world and delivered the spirit and essence of this ancient, abundant land that so many ancestors had roamed and celebrated before. It was open to the public through to the 90s, but then sat alone for 15 years, waiting for someone to revive it and bring it back to the world. Then one day, Caleb and Wolf met on a bus, heading south from Down East Maine, where they instantly connected and joined forces. They worked together redressing a home in Stonington for visitors to experience and became brothers while doing so. Eventually, the presence and opportunity of the campground caught their attention and after working out the technicalities, they worked together to bring this beautiful land and campground back to the people under its new life and name, Four Acre Woods. After opening on July 1st 2020, the land is finally back to sharing all of her beauty and spirit with the people. So, Welcome Home. Sincerely, - Four Acre Woods Caretakers

Glamp It Up With Gert in Brooklin!

1 site · Lodging1 acre · Blue Hill, ME
“Gert” is a 1968 completely renovated camper set in a lovely field overlooking the Benjamin River in Brooklin. The field is above a boatyard that specializes in wooden boats. She is ideal for a single or couple, with a state of the art composting toilet, solar shower (there is no hot water in this old girl!), mini fridge, and gas 3 burner stove. She has a queen sized bed, a microwave, and all the kitchen pans and utensils you would need. There is a picnic table, grill, fire pit, and hammock and two kayaks you can launch from the site. This property is about an hour from Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island and Bar Harbor, Asticou Gardens, and many beaches and sights. It makes a perfect base for your day trips and a peaceful retreat where fireflies and stars abound. There is plenty to do right here, though. Check out the “Things to Do in the Area” page of the Brooklin Inn! https://www.thebrooklininn.com/explore Mid May and June are great times to book - you will be here before the crowds and it’s warmer than it used to be usually. Plus the mosquitoes haven’t gotten the message yet and you can enjoy sitting outside in the evening. But the summer is amazing here on the coast, as always. Watch the boats come in and out of the river from the dock or your campsite. Join them in the kayaks! September and early October are also wonderful times to visit the coast of Maine! We offer a 15% discount from now until October 1st, so come on over. The crowds at Acadia have largely departed, the water is calm, the weather is great, and everything is still open. Summer is definitely not the only time to see Maine - many people actually prefer after Labor Day when it is quieter if you are out and about. So come see us - have a campfire, hike, paddle, and watch the stars. We close for the season in October and reopen in May. Hope to see you!

Hike In Souix Tipi on Maine Mtn

1 site · Lodging50 acres · Ellsworth, ME
Hike-in to your fully outfitted Souix tipi and stay the night to sleep under the sacred cone under the stars just as the people of the land did for centuries. A 20-foot diameter Colorado yurt is located on our mountain in an area we call the eagle's nest, an outcropping of granite makes a nest of trees and space that we have built the yurt on. A gas propane stove in the tipi and futons will make your mountain stay comfortable and memorable. An outhouse and solar shower make the experience a full experience. The water for cooking and solar shower will be hauled from the base of the mountain to the tipi site, approximately 700 feet up the mountain. Water is the essence of life, and the tipi being midway up the mountaintop does not afford plumbing, city water, a well, or aqueduct. There is a water station at the base of the mountain with free potable water that needs to be human powered up to the top for your enjoyment. Instead of running water, it's climbing water. It's part of the experience. Use as little or as much as you like. BUT, replacing what you find at the top is the rule. If you leave more than you found, you are paying it forward and building good karma. If you take more than you find and don't replace it, it is a $10 a gallon charge which will be ducted from your deposit. Your choice. Your water. Your life. We are pet friendly. However, we do not accept all pets. Send a request to bring your friendly, well-trained, well-behaved pet. Please include breed/name/history/good pet report to get approved. We do not discriminate against large dogs. We have large dogs. Your dog will be expected to meet me and my dogs and interact appropriately. If your dog cannot do that, it is not welcome. Do not bother to inquire. We do discriminate against mean, biting, untrained and misbehaving ones. Also, Maine is very dog friendly. There are few places you can’t take your pet. The tipi is not a good place to leave a pet and go hiking for the day as it heats up and does not maintain a constant temperature. Example, it may be 70 degrees in the morning, but with the sun and closed up tipi can get to well over 100 degrees. Take your pets with you or find a better place to leave pets. Maybe a dog daycare place in Bucksport, Ellsworth or BarHarbor. Cleaning You, as the guest, have your part for leaving a space that you have used and enjoyed. If you don’t complete the checkout cleaning, you will be charged for us doing it. The following is the checkout cleaning procedure: Cleaning sink/pots and pans $10 Quick Sweep the floor and futon covers, $10 Wiping surfaces: counter, table $10 Bring garbage down to garbage can $10 Picking up garbage (inside/outside the tipi) $10 Replace water $10/gallon Close tipi and lock outhouse $10 If you think that is not a big requirement and doable, please book. If you think it is beyond what you’re willing to do to use a space, please don’t book. We really enjoy hosting the adventurous and inspiration-seeking guest. We enjoy meeting you and knowing who is staying in our place. We want you to have the optimum experience. If meeting us and going through a 20-minute orientation to show you how systems work on a mountain is beyond what you can socially/interpersonally do, please seek out other accommodations that are more simple and impersonal. And please sign the tipi journal, we love reliving your experience and remembering you! There is an outdoor fire ring for enjoying outdoor wood fires from the wood you gather around the site.
