The kids and I had a lovely stay at the Kilns. 😊 Our hosts were friendly, relaxed, and so thoughtful! We really appreciated that firewood was free because we were using it to cook our meals! Scott even delivered dry wood and kindling when ours got rained on! We did have to get some earplugs for the spring frogs at night but loved hearing the sounds of nature. We weren't bothered by any mosquitoes. It was a perfect close spot for visiting the RRG too! Lots of positives about this site and would recommend. We camped under the chestnut tree because we knew there was some rain in the forecast.

The Kilns is a beautiful piece of land just ten minutes from the Red River Gorge, which was an amazing arrangement for us hikers. Kimberly was so welcoming and kind. On arrival, she gave us a whole guide packet for our stay, including a map, a list of nearby recommended restaurants, recommended hikes, and even a sticker for our water bottles. A thunderstorm hit on our second night and Kim generously let us move our tent under an awning on their property. With plenty of firewood available and a clean port-a-potty, we’d definitely stay again. Regarding the frogs: yes, they are very loud! You will not be able to ignore them, but we considered them a feature of the land and Kim warned us ahead of time that they’d be making noise. We brought ear plugs and had no trouble getting to sleep (bring them if you stay here).

Weekend Trip to Camp Middle Fork

Great area with lots to do. There was a mushroom festival in town with a car and rock show, live music etc. The host was amazing, helped with information on hiking trails and things to do in the area. Hiking trails right behind camp, and a stream very close for the kids to play and discover new things in. Our boys had a really fun time on their first camping trip! If you haven’t already, give this place a visit.

Weekend Trip to Handyland

This is a fantastic spot! This was our first time using Hipcamp, and it was such a great experience. Josh was a wonderful host- super friendly, easy to communicate with, and made sure we had everything we needed to get settled in! My dog also had an absolute blast running around and swimming in the nearby creek. We’re already looking forward to coming back!

We went in late April. We were the only occupants. We had the pick of the lot so we had a chance to check out every option. There were options close together and spots that seemed isolated. Every spot offers something for every camper.

7 nights at The Kilns @ The Red River Gorge

Kimberly and her husband Scott are amazing, they left nothing to want for. I don't even know how to describe this place. The picture do no justice if your looking for small private camping, this is it. In the center of so much to do, the area is absolutely beautiful. I spent a week of vacation here and do not regret even the rainy days. We sat under our canopy and enjoyed it, drinking our coffee. The free fire wood was beyond appreciated! Thanks for all the hard work to keep us stocked. By the way early spring brings on a music simphony of it's own there. Between the crickets and the frogs a radio was not needed. One more of nature's best, being there. Not sure when I'll be back, but I can't wait! Thanks for sharing such a beautiful place!

Many years ago, this property was known as Cross Winds Farm due to the crosswinds coming in from all directions at times. After being sold twice, the purchasing owner renamed the farm Quail Run. Did you ever hear the superstition that renaming a farm can bring bad luck? It appears to be true in this instance, as the owner of Quail Run experienced several financial difficulties and the property eventually sold at auction. About 8 years later the property came up for sale again. It was at this point we purchased the land and built the farm and our home. In researching the history of the property, we came across the original name and decided to restore to original name. Learn more about this land: Enjoy the spectacular sunrises and sunsets from this working horse farm and veterinary hospitalization facility while sharing the rolling hills and hiking trails with nature. The stars have never appeared brighter without the light pollution found in more densely populated areas. You will pull in on a private gravel road which runs along top a ridge. Once you arrive at the horse barn, parking is very nearby and we will direct you where to pull in. We will park you in as level of a spot as we can for you. Depending on number of other RVers and first arrivals, your parking may be on a bit more of a slope. Please note, you will be parking in a grassy area and be prepared in the event mother nature were to decide to bring rain. Heavy amounts of rain coupled with a heavy rig could lead to difficulties pulling out if you aren't prepared ahead of time with the proper equipment. We are happy to provide a tour of our Equine facility and what we do here. Depending on case load, we may or may not have hospitalized cases at any given time.

This is my home residence in the small town of Dry Ridge, KY. I am just 20 minutes from The Ark Encounter and historic Williamstown. I have a small pond to camp next to either with a tent or RV that has electric and water hookup outside of my detached garage. Behind the property and surrounding the farm of 125 acres is eagle creek. Swim, fish, canoe, or kayak for additional fun and relaxation. There are walking trails and if not too congested side by sides are welcome as well. If the creek is low, there is a lot of fun to be had collecting clamshells and other various unique items that the waters bring. Wood can be purchased for campfires if desired. A small fire pit will be beside the campsite and a larger one down by the creek. Come sit by the pond and fall asleep to the sound of the frogs chirping and other wildlife.

Here are a few of our featured campsites: REDBUD MEADOW: Our first campsite used by hundreds of people over the years. A secluded lawn in the midst of redbud trees, easy to drive to and from with a pile of firewood and a metal fire ring. The premier site on our property. THE BAPTISMAL POND: As history goes the pond in front of this site was used in the 1800's for baptisms for the church visible from everywhere on the farm, thus our name. This is a tent site, easy to drive into and out of, fires permitted in season. THISTLEDOWN GATHERING PLACE: This is a very large meadow, surrounded by trees with the capacity for large groups, many tents and gatherings of lots of people. Very level, easy in and out with vehicles. Fires permitted in season. WHITETAIL SANCTUARY: Every night for decades a herd of whitetail deer graze in this pastoral setting. Drive in and out, fires in season. Suitable for a family sized tent. THE PENNINSULA: This camping spot is WALK IN ONLY. You can drive to the trailhead on grass and walk the path to the campsite (about 200 yards). One of two remote sites. It sits in the woods, on the bank of a wet weather creek which flows around two sides of the campsite. Fires permitted in season. TOTEM TREES: This site is WALK IN ONLY. A short hike down the hill from the grass parking area and you have a small spot for a tent, in the woods, surrounded by trees and a lot of standing dead ash which appear as if you are in the presence of totem poles. NO OPEN FIRES. MUST USE BACKPACKER STOVE AND FLAMELESS LIGHTING. SPOTTED FAWN HIDEAWAY: This totally secluded walk in campsite is suitable for a small tent only AND PERFECT FOR HAMMOCK CAMPING. NO FIRES as the site benefits from the shade and protection of overhanging cedar trees and the ground is covered in cedar needles. NO OPEN FIRES. MUST USE BACKPACKER STOVE AND FLAMELESS LIGHTING. Mark Twain is the camper you are renting at River Run Retreat, River Run is a private retreat we share with our guest. It is a picturesque, just a beautiful water front property. It is 3 + acre property with a huge open field for whatever you like as long as you dont do serious damage to the grass. Football, baseball, volley ball, corn hole what ever makes you happy. A multitude of huge mature trees, making it such a beautiful setting and providing lots of shade for just hanging out or relaxing. Swings, slides and playsets for the little ones. For the water enthusiast and serious fisherman River Run has its own private dock with two slips and the ability to dock several boats around the perimiter. We have two gas powered john boats that can be rented in addition to your camper with a signed waiver but feel free to bring your own kayaks , or smaller fishing type boats. ( no yachts or pontoons ) There are miles of river to be explored with lots of amazing natural beauty. The Kentucky river has a great variety of fish for your chasing, large and small mouth bass, walleye, muskie, drum, pan fish an abundance of nice size channel cats which are so much fun to catch. Talk to me nice and I might give you some tips. There is so much here you will have to come and see for your self. FYI gang plank going down to the dock is steep so depending on your physical condition the dock may not be accessible to you.
