Weekend Trip to Turtleback Ridge

What’s not to love about camping just a short walk from an incredible brewery? Turtleback Ridge Farm is a fantastic host for the Kentucky Open Road Race Series, and I had the privilege of camping there the night before a race. Although the weather was dreary and the rain relentless, the property still offered a peaceful, spacious spot to pitch a tent and rest up undisturbed. I didn’t get to fully appreciate the farm’s beauty this time, but I’m already looking forward to a return visit. Highly recommend to anyone in search of a laid-back, convenient campsite in the area!

Weekend Trip to Shasta Valley

We loved bringing our teardrop trailer to this beautiful private property! We are new to the area and this was the perfect spot for our family. We felt so safe and comfortable and had everything we needed! Our camper did wonderful by the pond! We did hiking every day at red River Gorge and it was so nice coming back to this nice private spot (spot by the pond). We did this trip in March so even though the nights were chilly we did just fine and everyone was sad to leave! Thank you guys for such a great experience and for sharing your property with us!

Very Peaceful atmosphere, at night all you can hear is the valley stream, the perfect amount of noise! Very friendly people and very friendly animals! Would absolutely recommend staying here again, although next time I think I'll wait till it's a bit warmer outside.

We had such a relaxing stay at Handyland. The cabin was so cozy and the stars were absolutely stunning at night. We walked the trails and they are beautiful. Don’t miss them. Josh made sure we had everything we needed. Our dog was able to get some exercise and explore. We all left happy campers and would definitely stay again.

we stayed at the top shelf and it was our first time coming to this site and it’s amazing! a ton of space for tents and activities. the view is amazing, se saw a fon of stars at night, and its pretty secluded (besides the bar side lol). we will definitely be coming back and booking the bar side!

Nice level site and really well maintained with gravel allowing any rain to drain well. Beautiful ridge top location that was quiet at night. The stars were lovely. The site was large and allowed us ample room to set up our teardrop trailer and to have space for our camp chairs, etc. The porta potty is close enough to be convenient as well. The directions to get to the site were great. They made it easy to find where we were going even after exiting onto a steep mountain gravel road.

This campsite was amazing, and Sam is a wonderful host. Even in the early spring this place is an oasis. Our campsite was tucked in the trees, and the outdoor kitchen was the cutest. It was perfect campsite for watching the eclipse and star gazing. 1000% would recommend stoping here if you can.

We loved our experience here! Josh was very communicative and helpful any time I had questions. The cabin was clean and well maintained. We stayed on a very cold night and enjoyed using the wood burning stove for heat. The kitchen was well stocked and we had everything we needed.

HomeGrown HideAways is a farm, lodging, and event facility nestled in a hundred-acre holler in the Appalachian foothills near Berea, Ky. Our lodging features treehouses, yurts, a bunkhouse, retro camper, water/electric hook-ups, and campsites. We also host weddings, retreats, and other events so advance reservations are required. For insurance purposes and the safety of our own livestock and pets, we do not allow guests to bring their pets/ESAs onto the property. Prepare to UNPLUG as we do not have cell service or wifi (there IS a landline for guests to make phone calls located in the Community Farmhouse). All guests from tent to treehouse have access to our solar-powered Community Farmhouse featuring a fully-stocked chef-inspired kitchen, restrooms, coin-op laundry, and upstairs multi-purpose room with a library and board games. There is also an outdoor kitchen area with additional cooking space including a grill, microwave, and sink (sink is closed in the winter so the pipes don’t freeze). Next to the Farmhouse is a massive pavilion with picnic tables for al fresco dining and firewood bundles to purchase. BRING CASH! Our seasonal bath house is generally open from April or May to October or November based on the prevailing temps. There are 4 flush toilets, 2 sinks, and 2 hot showers. The floors are concrete so we recommend shower shoes and you'll want to bring your own towels and shampoo/soap. The farm has a small playground, yard games, creeks, and a steep and rugged hiking trail that loops the mountain. We're also just 8 miles from the hiking trails at the Berea College Pinnacles, 8 miles to Owsley Fork Reservoir, 20 minutes to Anglin Falls, 12 miles to Berea, 35 minutes to Richmond, Ky, and a scenic hour to Red River Gorge. For other activities, restaurants, shopping, music, and more, we're happy to share our favorites, but highly recommend checking out the Berea Tourism website.

Learn more about this land: I live on 5.5 acres. It's peaceful and quiet and I love it here. I've stayed at other hip camps and simply decided that I would love to share my little slice of heaven with others passing through my area. Notes: there is a wee bit of road noise, I live on a dead end road, there are 10 acres between my 5 acres and the Blue Grass Parkway. I find it peaceful here and can easily ignore it but I'm mentioning it so your not surprised by it ;) The Neighbor dog (Roxy) is very friendly and might visit you while you are here :) You are welcome to hang a hammock in a small section of woods, by a small pond, or even on my covered porch. You are welcome to pitch a tent anywhere you like. You are welcome to park an RV or vehicle in the drive. The drive is about 250ft long, you would need to back in in order to hook up to the 30 or 50 amp plug. RV's can use the 30 or 50 amp plug (30 amp will need an adapter. I have one you can use if you don't own one of your own) and hose for water. I have an outdoor shower and a camping toilet. I am ... - one hour from Lexington, Louisville, Elizabethtown, and Frankfort.- 1 mile from a mini mart with Gas, Ice, Pizza, Chicken Wings, Sandwiches, ect.- 6 miles from Dollar General and A pizza Restaurant - 15 ish miles from Wal-mart and other chain stores and restaurants I'm a great travel guide so feel free to tell me what your in town for or things you like to do. I will happily make you up a list of things to do and see and places to eat. Keenland, Churchill Downs, The Bourbon Tour (Jim Beam, Makers Mark, Heaven Hill, and many others) are within an hour of here. Also within an hour are 2 great bike paths, wonderful hiking and kayaking. As well as Great Shopping and Restaurants. Anything your heart desires.

Here are a few of our featured campsites: REDBUD MEADOW: Our first campsite used by hundreds of people over the years. A secluded lawn in the midst of redbud trees, easy to drive to and from with a pile of firewood and a metal fire ring. The premier site on our property. THE BAPTISMAL POND: As history goes the pond in front of this site was used in the 1800's for baptisms for the church visible from everywhere on the farm, thus our name. This is a tent site, easy to drive into and out of, fires permitted in season. THISTLEDOWN GATHERING PLACE: This is a very large meadow, surrounded by trees with the capacity for large groups, many tents and gatherings of lots of people. Very level, easy in and out with vehicles. Fires permitted in season. WHITETAIL SANCTUARY: Every night for decades a herd of whitetail deer graze in this pastoral setting. Drive in and out, fires in season. Suitable for a family sized tent. THE PENNINSULA: This camping spot is WALK IN ONLY. You can drive to the trailhead on grass and walk the path to the campsite (about 200 yards). One of two remote sites. It sits in the woods, on the bank of a wet weather creek which flows around two sides of the campsite. Fires permitted in season. TOTEM TREES: This site is WALK IN ONLY. A short hike down the hill from the grass parking area and you have a small spot for a tent, in the woods, surrounded by trees and a lot of standing dead ash which appear as if you are in the presence of totem poles. NO OPEN FIRES. MUST USE BACKPACKER STOVE AND FLAMELESS LIGHTING. SPOTTED FAWN HIDEAWAY: This totally secluded walk in campsite is suitable for a small tent only AND PERFECT FOR HAMMOCK CAMPING. NO FIRES as the site benefits from the shade and protection of overhanging cedar trees and the ground is covered in cedar needles. NO OPEN FIRES. MUST USE BACKPACKER STOVE AND FLAMELESS LIGHTING.
