The FOLC Farm (Florida Outdoor Learning Collective) is a homestead, outdoor learning center, and community event space in Gainesville, FL. Situated on 5 wooded acres, The FOLC Farm is only minutes from downtown Gainesville and the University of Florida by car or bike trail, and within walking distance of Payne's Prairie State Park La Chua Trail, Boulware Spring, Sweetwater Preserve trail system, and the Hawthorne bike trail. Guests are welcome at the occasional public social events held onsite (separate from the campground). At The FOLC Farm, you will find the perfect blend of nature, culture, and convenience. At the entrance of the property is a self-contained, family-friendly campground with nine non-electric sites (five tent sites and four car camping sites). You may also rent the entire campground for your private group (usually $300 on weekends, $200 on weekdays — please message to inquire). At the campground, you have access to a shared campfire, picnic tables, grill, composting toilet, sink with running water, shower with hot water, changing room, and some art supplies and games to enjoy during your stay. The host lives on the homestead and is available if you need assistance. Please note: The five tent sites are within the campground circle where no cars are allowed for camper safety. The parking area is within 150 feet (45 meters) of the various sites, and a cart is available to move your gear. Sites are 25–50 feet (8–15 meters) apart. Dogs are not allowed for the safety and comfort of other campers. If your private group is renting the whole campground, you may bring a leashed pet when it is not in your tent or van. If you are looking for a single private campsite far from town, this is not for you. However, if you would like to experience a campground on a working homestead and learning center, with the ability to interact with other guests if you wish, while still being conveniently close to downtown and trail systems, this is a great fit. Frank Page purchased the Suwannee River Rendezvous Resort & Campground in 2008 which included the original seven acres of the lower portion of the Rendezvous. At that time there were only a few buildings and the primitive campground area. Frank started cleaning the area and stabilizing all the buildings. In 2009 another 20 acres was purchased, which is now considered the upper area of the Rendezvous. In 2010, another seven acres were added to the property. Frank planned and constructed the Upper Rendezvous area which was completed in 2012 and added 136 RV sites as well as the dog park, barn and pigeon coop. The dog park has five sections, for both small and large dogs, with ample room to run. Suwannee River Rendezvous Resort & Campground Pool Frank began raising pigeons in 2012. The first pigeons purchased were homing pigeons, which started the Pigeon Races that are still a fun, family favorite event on Saturday afternoons. Frank also bought and started raising other pigeons, the Birmingham Roller. Birmingham Rollers are a very popular breed of domesticated pigeons that originated in Birmingham, England, where they were developed via selective breeding for their ability to do rapid backward somersaults while flying. You can often see them flying around the Upper Rendezvous in the mornings and afternoons. These pigeons are used for our weekly Pigeon Races.

The FOLC Farm was a fantastic location for camping, with clean sites and easily accessible amenities. The location's closeness to Gainesville proper and Paynes Prairie gave it a unique feeling of being somewhat out in the wilderness, while simultaneously having quick access to markets, festivals, and generally urban conveniences. 10/10 would recommend if you're looking for a nice campground that's not too far from both city and natural attractions.

Fantastic location super close to populated downtown Gainesville, great place to camp out for football or sporting events clean bathroom facility, and great hot showers would highly recommend for family camping or just a great weekend retreat also super close to Paynes, Prairie State Park, and lots of great hiking and walking areas with amazing birds/wildlife right down the road. There’s also great food in downtown Gainesville. Which as I said is only a few minutes away. The host also offers really cool first-aid classes you can sign up for through her website, which I highly recommend! 10/10 would stay here again!

I loved staying at the FOLC Farm! I chose this over a state park campground because it is so close to everything in Gainesville with the added bonus of being really cute. I especially liked all the fun little decorative touches like plants and flamingo in the shower. The composting toilet smelled like fresh wood chips and the sun on my skin while using the outdoor shower was soothing. The big oak trees kept my site shady and cool. I would definitely stay here again. Next time I’d like to bring friends or family along and relax around the campfire area.

8 nights at Artists Nature Retreat

Lynn’s land was perfect for our week long stay to visit family in Gainesville. The property was so quiet and peaceful. It was far enough from the city that we could see so many stars at night but close enough that it was just a 15-20 minute commute in and out of town. Lynn and David were also incredibly nice when we crossed paths. We will definitely be returning here for our next Gainesville visit. 10/10 would recommend!

The hosts were fantastically helpful and welcoming. They hooked us up with a great kayaking trip down the Santa Fe. The site is beautiful and quiet with all the amenities needed and so many thoughtful additional touches. We only stayed 2 nights and are already talking about coming back & staying longer next time. Bowman's is a true slice of old Florida.

Weekend Trip to Free to Be Acres

Had an awesome time here. The camp is located about 3 miles from Ichetucknee springs state park and about the same distance from a few boat ramps for the Suwannee river. The camp was relatively secluded, a nice open area, has a fire ring a small shower, and power. If you are going to tent camp, make sure to bring heavy duty tent stakes. The site has a layer of compact lime stone which is great, but hard to drive standard tent stakes through. Overall great experience.

My husband, myself and another couple (and a dog) camped here for a long weekend. While it is along the side of the property owners house/parking area, Mike is a great host and it is waterfront, right along the Santa Fe. Outside of checking in with us to ensure we didn't need anything, we were left alone to enjoy ourselves. This area is truly stunning, and a 3 minute drive on a golf cart to a private park with flushing toilets and access to the Ichetucknee. If you've never seen the Ichetucknee, it's positively breathtaking, and this campsite gives you access to it. There's electric, water, a firepit, a sink, and a closet thing where you can take a hot shower and use a bucket toilet if you need it. At night deer are just walking around in the area, and the trees are old and massive. We absolutely LOVED the area and will definitely return!
