I could go on and on, these are the things I see when I close my eyes and think of this place. This site sits at the base of (2) 14ers. in thee middle of a sunken meadow. This is the most beautiful and secluded camping experience you will experience in Colorado. There are miles of 4x4 and atv trails. There are countless hiking trails for day and short nature hikes. Above the site sits bristlecone pines that have appeared in ansel adams prints and are absolutely amazing. The sites sit on 160 private acres which borders national forest. There is a small a-frame tent that's insulated with big windows, locking door, skylight, solar for charging electronics, and a full size bed. The cabin is roughly the size of the full size mattress but seems bigger because of the a-frame roof. Its warm and cozy and keeps the critters and animals out, so you feel safe and comfortable. There are lots of amenities on site.  There is a picnic table, 10'x12' waterproof awning and wood deck.  There is a bbq, bear box, huge stone fire pit and bucket toilet. The road into the site was graded last year but still has small potholes typical of a Colorado county road, most low-profile cars will do fine.  If you have a rv or camper, the turn around is limited, no tow behind campers or vehicles over 20'

We really enjoyed our weekend stay here! We came with my toddler and dog and they both enjoyed playing outside during the day and stayed cozy and warm in the tent during the chilly night. The site was well supplied and conveniently set up and Marsha was very accommodating and easy to communicate with. The land is beautiful and the leaves were starting to turn golden. It was so secluded and peaceful; the stars were unbelievable and we could hear coyotes at night and it was so quiet we could hear the flapping of bird wings during the day. I would love to come back and stay here again another time.

Imagine you’re at 10,000 feet on 160 acres on the most beautiful countryside in Colorado and you’re only ones there! 1 campsite, all to yourself with all the amenities you could possibly hope for! Mike and Marsha have thought about everything, we will be back here year after year and make sure we stay more than just 2 nights! With just a single Hipcamp site on a large 40 acre property and no neighbors nearby, you'll enjoy a private camping experience in one of the most scenic locations in Colorado. The property is partially wooded, and there is a spectacular view from the top of a prominent hill on the property which is some of the highest ground for miles in all directions. Upon completion of the City of Aurora's Wild Horse Reservoir in the 2030's, this will be a "waterfront" property. On site picnic tables (the tan colored bench can fold into a table) and a porta-potty are provided. The campsite is equipped with a unique dual purpose wood/propane fire ring - bring your own propane to enjoy campfires while burn bans are in effect. Great hiking opportunities may be found right on the property, and numerous nearby seldom used dirt roads provide exceptional mountain biking opportunities. Close to recreational opportunities in Buena Vista and Salida, as well as Antero, Eleven Mile, and Spinney Mountain Reservoirs. A level site with great access, and can accommodate large RV's and campers. And keep your eyes out - you might just see some Pronghorn passing through the property! Directions from the town of Hartsel: Proceed 2 miles South on State Hwy 9. Turn right (South) on CR 53. Stay right at the fork at 1.3 miles. At 3.9 miles, turn left (East) onto lightly used Shawnee Trail (Note: On occasion due to County grading on CR 53, there will be a small mound to drive over as you enter this left turn). Proceed about one-quarter mile (and past the the POSTED NO TRESPASSING sign just inside the property entrance) to the campsite a bit further on the left.

Thousand Peaks Ranch Campground in Hartsel has Scenic Mountains, is a getaway and a home away from home for many users. The campsites are best suited for tents and RV stops. We are very close to many places where you can find a river to fish, take a walk in nature or take a quick dip in the cold waters. Thousand Peaks Ranch Primitive Campground is a 40-acre site each with a table, fire pit and grill. There is a fee for its use and the stay limit is three weeks. We have well water to supply your shower and are located close to the center of the camp. Thousand Peaks Ranch offers a group campsite with 8 separate group campsites. These sites vary in size: Group sites 1, 2, and 7 ($40/ night) can accommodate between 10 and 25 people per site. Group sites 3-6 ($80/night) can accommodate between 25 and 50 people per site. Your base camp for Gold Medal fishing at Spinney Mountain Reservoir, or just some relaxation and stargazing! Once a gargantuan ranch, this section of South Park has been subdivided into residential and recreational lots so more of us can enjoy the local beauty, and remains sparsely populated. Learn more about this land Enjoy exclusive use of this six-acre spread which features trees, rock outcroppings, and absurd mountain views. Remote yet accessible by county road, the property is a few miles from Hartsel, where you'll find a general store and saloon, and the other historic railroad settlements of Park County. (Learn about the South Park National Heritage Area at southparkheritage.org.) The property has flat (but not *quite* level) areas for tent setup and also gently sloping and wooded areas for exploring. All supplies (including water) must be packed in, and all waste packed out. I stashed a collapsible picnic table behind the big rock and you're welcome to use that, please just fold it and stash it again. There are no structures at all on the property. Per Hipcamp and local zoning, you may not relieve yourself outdoors; you must be in a vehicle or privacy tent. There is a fire ring. If you intend to make a camp fire, YOU MUST LET ME KNOW so I can call the Hartsel Fire Department. They will then tell me if there's a burn ban in place and I will relay that info to you. This must be done no later than 24 hours before you plan to burn. Hipcamp will sometimes turn on my fire ban based on data from the National Weather Service. The only way to know the full situation is for me to call. If you see some expensively outfitted motorcyclists cruise by, they're from the Rawhyde Training Camp up the road so give them a wave!
