Campgrounds, crowds, noise, generators, headlights at midnight — those are the things you leave behind when you come here. What you’ll find instead is silence, privacy, and the feeling of having an untouched piece of Colorado completely to yourself. This private alpine meadow sits at approximately 11,000 feet, at the base of two 14,000-foot peaks, on 160 secluded acres bordering National Forest. The camp rests in a hidden sunken meadow surrounded by ancient forest, alpine streams, and some of the oldest living bristlecone pines in the world — trees so remarkable they have appeared in Ansel Adams photography. At night, you may hear great horned owls in the trees, coyotes calling at sunset, and sometimes moose moving quietly through the meadow. During the day, the air smells of pine, summer grass, and cold mountain water. Sit beside the stream with your feet on warm granite while the wind moves through 3,000-year-old trees overhead. It is peaceful, wild, and difficult to describe until you are here. The site is built for guests who want to disconnect from crowds and reconnect with nature without giving up comfort. Tucked into the meadow is a cozy insulated A-frame shelter with large windows, a skylight, soft solar lighting for nighttime ambiance, a locking door, and a full-size bed. It is simple, warm, secure, and comfortable — a perfect basecamp after exploring the high country. From the property, you have access to miles of 4x4 roads, ATV trails, hiking routes, wildlife viewing, photography, stargazing, and quiet time by the stream. Spend the day hiking alpine ridges, exploring the forest, reading on the deck, or doing nothing at all. Amenities include a wood deck, waterproof awning, picnic table, BBQ grill, bear box, oversized stone fire pit, and simple backcountry-style toilet setup. Altitude note: this camp is around 11,000 feet, so guests should be prepared for high-elevation conditions, cooler nights, stronger sun, and changing mountain weather. There are also two other private Hipcamp sites on the property. [Add short sentence here naming or describing the other two sites.] Access note: the county road was recently graded and is manageable for most vehicles when driven slowly, though normal mountain-road potholes and uneven sections remain. Experience serene seclusion with breathtaking mountain views at our property, perfectly nestled in nature yet just a short walk from town. The property is 8 acres and includes a primary residence. There are many amazing locations to park a camper or van or even pitch a tent. Property is surrounded by empty land so very secluded but still close to town. Adjacent to the Mineral Belt Trail and easy access to East Side trail system. We live in a house on the property with our 4 year old son, and Koda the dog, who will be very excited to meet you and might come check on you through out your stay. He loves leftover campfire hot dogs. Please be aware that this is old mining land and there is mining debris and also glass on the property. We work hard to pick it up and repurpose into art projects but it seems to be a never ending battle. If that is of concern this might not be the property for you. However feel free to bring a metal detector and your geology books and you can find a lot of fun treasures on the land if that is your thing!

Nestled in the mountains of Leadville, Colorado, the S.L.umber Yard at FREIGHT is the perfect retreat. The property, once home to a lumber yard and freight depot, now boasts a brilliantly renovated event space, outdoor stage, and thirteen luxurious cabins. Whether you're celebrating a big milestone or just looking for a getaway, the S.L.umber Yard is the perfect place to stay. Inspired by homes built in the mining days, these modern cabins were thoughtfully crafted using recycled materials found on site. With rustic charm on the outside, and all the amenities on the inside, our cabins provide all the comfort you need. In tune with our mission to honor the stories of Leadville, we named the cabins after female sex workers who lived here. First the men came to work the mine. Then the ladies came to work on the line. These women's stories are rarely told, and so it's our honor to shine a light on them.

Gondola Village at Holy Cross

Gondola Village at Holy Cross is a little sanctuary in the mountains between Aspen, Vail, and Leadville, Colorado. There is little else in the area except for the next door Holy Cross Wilderness, with a lifetime worth of trails, lakes, and peaks to explore -- all accessed from a trailhead only two plus hours from Denver. Gondola Village at Holy Cross has direct access that many only dream of to Colorado's water wilderness, and some of the best backcountry skiing, hiking, scrambling, backpacking, and fly fishing in the Vail / Eagle County / Leadville / Aspen area. Our modern alpine cabins are some of the cutest cabins you've seen, complete with a mix of amenities to make your wilderness stay a bit more comfortable. Don’t forget your camera, and a good book (or read one from our large library while you’re up here). Gondola Village at Holy Cross is at almost 12,000 feet above sea level (believed to be one of the highest altitude Hipcamps in the world). Gondola Village at Holy Cross has been featured on Discovery Channel’s Reclaimed, Airbnb's OMG! Fund, Arch Digest, numerous other publications and brand product shoots. The managers of this property have worked in modular construction (cabins, yurts, and homes) and hospitality for many years and have brought together some of the best Scandinavian and modern mountain design with a mining town aesthetic. With such challenging access (larger items can only come in via helicopter), each piece of furniture and amenity is carefully chosen. The trip up can be challenging (only off-road, winch / locker equipped vehicles dare try the 759 Holy Cross City jeep road, others will need to hike in at least 2.5 miles), but the views and cabins are well worth the trek. For successful navigation without reliable cell service, a map app like onX is recommended. Snow free season tends to be June 15 an October 30 annually, and outside of this guests should be prepared for up to 11 miles of over-snow travel with no cars allowed (a bit less depending on snow coverage in the shoulder seasons from May 21 - early June and late October - November 21).

🌲 Glen Isle Campgrounds – A Historic Riverside Retreat Welcome to Glen Isle, a 125-year-old mountain resort along the North Fork of the South Platte River, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally reached by train, Glen Isle remains one of Colorado’s last surviving turn-of-the-century resort properties and offers a camping experience rich in history, natural beauty, and community. Because Highway 285 follows the original railroad corridor that once brought visitors here, it runs nearby. We encourage guests to review the map before booking to be sure our location is the right fit for their camping style. Many guests appreciate the easy access along with the beauty of the river, surrounding forest, and nearby mountain trails. 🎣 Activities & Amenities Campers enjoy: • Fishing along the South Platte (no rod fees required) • A 21-hole wooded disc golf course (free for campers) • Rescue horses, miniature donkeys, and miniature goats • Optional guided mini-donkey walks (paid experience) • Bingo nights, camper music nights, and outdoor movie evenings (when scheduled) • Recreation room with games • Guided historic lodge tours and gift shop • Tuesday Food Truck nights • Trailhead ½ mile behind the property • Walking distance to the Coney Island hot dog stand • About 30 miles from Red Rocks Amphitheatre Glen Isle is a historic gathering place rather than a remote backcountry campground, and guests may see other campers and activity around the lodge, especially on summer weekends. Seasonal insects are part of the natural river environment during warmer months. Campsites are currently first-come, first-served within designated camping areas as we transition toward reservable individual sites. 🔥 Fire Policy Due to drought conditions and wildfire risk, wood fires and charcoal are not permitted. Propane fire rings and cooking equipment are welcome. Propane tanks are available to rent for $25. A community fire ring may be used when restrictions allow. 🚗 Important Arrival Note Please do not turn at the Coney Island Boardwalk. Glen Isle is located ½ mile farther west on the same side of Highway 285. The road behind Coney Island is not maintained for passenger vehicles and should not be used to access the property.
