Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. That being said, and to maintain the balance here at home, we'd appreciate if you keep your dogs in your car until you get to your site. Our offerings include fresh air and sunshine, amazing night sky, endless views, and plenty of space and privacy to enjoy your moments in nature. You'll find our amenities and activities puposefully sparse here. Upon booking, there are about 5 miles of dirt road on the property that you are welcome to explore on foot or by bicycle. Rustic is the theme here. There is no shower, no wifi, and no electricity available, but you will enjoy your own private spigot and the cellular service is acceptable. For any sites located south of Ballinger Wash, your vehicle length is limited to 22' and no more than 4' overhang from the rear axle, so you don't get stuck in the crossing and block access for others. Towing services are 1-3 hours away. Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. We'll be happy to recommend a site for you. **Forest Service law enforcement is actively ticketing unplated OHV on Ballinger Canyon Road. Be sure to know and abide by the laws.** Our friendly cancellation policies vary between 24 hours for simple campsites and 72 hours for our Glamp sites and Group sites. Be sure to check the Google for distance to Cuyama Valley, and your dates for availability and site descriptions. There is a chorus of frogs throughout the spring nights, and crickets year round! It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve or 20 minutes to the entrance of Cuyamaca State Park and Cleveland National Forest. We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available. In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements. Fun Fact: Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer! Today there are just a few bees in the area.

Songdog Ranch is one of my favorite places to be. It is close enough to the city to not feel completely isolated, but far enough to do the best stargazing you have done in your life. My mom is not a camper and she was already talking about coming back. My dad wants to try the larger cabin and my 12 year old son loves it here. It's hard to get him interested in something that does not have wifi. The mattresses in the glabin were INSANELY COMFORTABLE. I will come back to this beautiful place.

2 nights at Cuyama Oaks Ranch

Pink Pony 2 yurt had all the views of the night sky to view the Perseid shower and see the Milky Way. The supplied pots, pans and chairs under the covered small patio and creature comforts of the comfortable bed made for a wonderful 2 night stay in mid August. Nathan was very kind and attentive to answer our questions. The new donkeys and small horse were a fun bonus to see. We will be back next year to also see the surrounding hills in all the green glory of spring.

2 nights at Cuyama Oaks Ranch

Perfect spot for stargazing! Nate's attention to detail is top notch, so many adorable and thoughtful touches at this site. The solar batteries made it so we were never left without power. Yes it's hot during the day, but soaking in the cowboy tub really helped, and the tent cooled way down at night. The animals are adorable, and Nate made sure to give us eggs for our first morning there. Beds are comfy and cozy, the yurt is more spacious than you'd think, and the donkeys provide plenty of comedic relief. Absolutely wonderful stay!!

Weekend Trip to Magical Harrison Serenity Ranch

Take the tour! The history and Vicki’s stories are what put the magical into the Magical Nate Harrison Ranch ✨We look forward to visiting again and trying out multiple stays as there are lots to pick from 🙌🌲🏠🏕️ Favorite views were on the east side of the property looking at the wall of tall pines from the gully to the neighboring peak. The well water is delicious. Don’t bother with bringing jugs of water you will be stoked on the quality.

A lovely little (air-conditioned!) cabin on some beautiful creekside property nestled in nature—with a comfy bed. If you want to get away from the city and spend a night in nature without wrestling with a tent or forgoing plumbing, I highly recommend this spot! (There is access to a surprisingly well appointed—and chic—bathroom with a spacious shower. Also a quaint outdoor kitchen area with refrigerators.) Host Laura could not have been friendlier. My only suggestion would be a little more outdoor lighting in the public areas. But this is a beautiful location I would go to again.

Surreal place! We arrived at night for stargazing and couldn't ask for more for the money. Shooting stars, milky way all in quite and privacy. The host is a very friendly guy! Bonus: lots of quails running around the farm :)

Weekend Trip to Topanga Oasis

The Dragonfly House was a perfect place for me! Incredible views from every angle of oak trees and mountains and butterflies. I woke to the sound of the canyon literally humming with bees and the sun peaking over the hillside. 10 minutes form the beach, 5 minutes from excellent restaurants - this was the perfect weekend getaway for me. All the rooms: bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen are separate spaces that you use outdoor stairs to enter. I found it charming and the access to nature thrilling, but bring a flashlight for nightime wandering.

This was a beautiful campsite. Very friendly host and felt safe the whole time. It is 2WD accessible however, definitely would’ve felt better with 4WD. Overall great experience and would come again!!

If quiet, peace and relaxation is what you are looking for, you will find it here at the elevation of 5500 feet in beautiful Tehachapi mountains. I can’t say enough how much we enjoy staying in the Studio cabin. This is a good place for stargazing in the fresh mountain air. We love it here, John has made his property a wonderful getaway,

5 nights at Splitrock Farm and Retreat

TL;DR I loved it, great way to ease yourself into camping and very fun for a solo trip. The drive out is difficult and deep in the mountains. Narrow dirt roads. The camper was awesome. Comfortable bed, kitchenette is fully stocked with silverware and cookware. No problems with the bathroom and water supply. The fridge is not very good. It's supposed to be propane-powered, but I had to ask the host to pack it with ice repeatedly. And I had problems with power. The host was kind enough to provide a replacement battery, but the battery didn't stay charged throughout the night. And in case the listing doesn't make it obvious, this is part of a larger property with a farm and plenty of goats. It was very funny to see a herd of goats walking through my campsites one morning. Very cool. Also be careful of ants. Ants have a tendency to swarm the trash, and they got into my car. I was there for a solo trip, and I drove out every day to do things in San Diego. It was too hot during the day to stay in the camper. But the nights were comfortable.
