Please pack your trash out there is a dumpster at the front gate entrance/exit for your trash.

If you've ever wondered what it might be like to camp on the moon, this is it. This is our home but we love to share our life in the outback. We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. That being said, and to maintain the balance here at home, we'd appreciate if you keep your dogs in your car until you get to your site.
Our offerings include fresh air and sunshine, amazing night sky, endless views, and plenty of space and privacy to enjoy your moments in nature. You'll find our amenities and activities puposefully sparse here. Upon booking, there are about 5 miles of dirt road on the property that you are welcome to explore on foot or by bicycle.
Rustic is the theme here. There is no shower, no wifi, and no electricity available, but you will enjoy your own private spigot and the cellular service is acceptable.
For any sites located south of Ballinger Wash, your vehicle length is limited to 22' and no more than 4' overhang from the rear axle, so you don't get stuck in the crossing and block access for others. Towing services are 1-3 hours away.
Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. We'll be happy to recommend a site for you. **Forest Service law enforcement is actively ticketing unplated OHV on Ballinger Canyon Road. Be sure to know and abide by the laws.**
Our friendly cancellation policies vary between 24 hours for simple campsites and 72 hours for our Glamp sites and Group sites. Be sure to check the Google for distance to Cuyama Valley, and your dates for availability and site descriptions. Upon booking, you can look forward to an information packed email to help you make the very best of your trip!

Villa Macala is 15 minutes from Diamond Valley Lake where you can enjoy a wildflower trail, fishing or mountain bike trails, museum and water park. It is 20-30 minutes to Pachea Trail and Simpson Park where you can enjoy more great hiking and mountain bike trails. It is also a 30-minute drive to Temecula Wine Country.
We have 2 full outdoor bathrooms, one was most recently added at our Elderberry Camp Site (site 1), and is also close to site 4 our Oaks Campsite as well. (Please note our 2nd bathroom is a good walk uphill from the campsites). Our larger bathroom campers can use with a shower and small fridge to store your food.
We also have a playground with swing set for kids to enjoy.
PLEASE NOTE: Bookings must be made at least 48 hours in advance.
FIRES: No fires are to be lit by the campers without verbal consent from property owner and instruction. SEE property owner/camp host upon arrival about what you may use on the property. He will provide instructions.

Macala Orchards Olive Oil, Various Jellies and Jams Pomegranate Juice all made from what we grow are available for tasting upon request. Please let us know prior to arrival if you are interested in a scheduled tasting during your stay! We can provide a tasting if we have the proper staff during your visit. Our products are available for purchase, with or without a tasting. We recommend you bring cash if you are interested. We also take Venmo!
GETTING TO VILLA MACALA: The road up to Villa Macala is a dirt road uphill, all vehicles fair well, we attempt to keep the road maintained as well as possible, after heavy rains it is a bit more bumpy but safe. Drive slow!

There is a fitness and nature trail on the property and Pacific Crest trail is approx 20 to 30 min drive, Mountain park which has many miles of hiking trails and an Indian reservation with hikes to many petroglphs. Things to see are the World famous Tehachapi railway loop, historic downtown, vineyards, mountain spirit center a Buddhist temple, glider rides, bicycle riding and fishing.

covered in chaparral and manzanita shrubbery, and seasonal waterfalls, streams, a lake with a dam, dirt roads, and hiking trails. Bluebird Tiny House is tucked into a secluded forest meadow, named for the bluebirds that spend part of the year there and is a spacious feeling 320 sq ft.
The spa-inspired bathroom features a hand-carved, wood vessel sink, eco-dual flush toilet,rain shower, and free-standing soaking tub with oak canopy view.
The 40’ long deck spans the length of the secluded tiny house overlooking the forest to distant mountains and has alfresco dining area and plenty of furniture for cozying as well as hot tub sited for star gazing and firepit seating all within a large fenced yard to keep your fur babies close by.
In addition, we have developed 2 forest therapy trails that will bring your ability to slow down and connect to nature to a whole new level and encourage you to try it using our MP3 forest therapy audio guide..
If you need to accommodate a larger group, check out Pinky's Nature Hideout which has a full kitchen, spacious living room, fenced yard for pets, corn hole, large deck and hot tub sited for star gazing, and firepit seating which overlooks the forest to distant mountains. It sleeps 4 people but the "Lounge" vintage Spartan trailer which is located behind the bunkhouse can be rented to sleep an additional 2 people and is only available to Pinky's guests.

hidden under the oaks which features a vintage 1949 Canned Ham Tiny Trailer (sleeps 2 in a double and one on couch) , a 10 x 12 safari tent on deck w/queen bed, an outdoor kitchen with dining area and barista bar, bath house with hot water, rain-shower, claw-foot tub , compost toilet looking out to acres of sage and distant mountains and firepit. The owners are artisan builders and seasoned hosts who promise guests privacy and quiet. The camp is totally fenced for the safety of your pets and suitable for up to 6 people but sleeps up to 5 additional person(s) can bring tent.

Surrounded by thousands of acres of park, conservation and private land while only a 10-15 minute drive to the National Park main entrance. Complete privacy nearly 2 miles in from a gated entrance at the base of a small canyon. Walk up to the ridge for panoramic views of JT National Park, Joshua Trees, mountains and valleys highlighted with brilliant greens, yellows and other blooms and a winding graded dirt road up to your exclusive camp site. Town is just a 5 minute drive away, complete with trendy shops, cafes, music venues, sightseeing and more. Note: please be aware there is some several years old fire damage at the site and nearby areas but the lush drive in and long range views remain. 😍

We are a small farm on a 1 acre gated property that has two RV spots and a bar shed. We have full hookups in both sites.
Our town is rural but it's still close to HWY 101. We do live on the property, close enough if you need anything but far enough for privacy. We host happy hour for campers who are interested. Although the hours depend on arrival and our availability.
We have a common area between the two sites that offered a nice fire pit. Our farm has 3 goats, 2 pot bellied pigs and 20 chickens that lay fresh eggs daily. We LOVE animals but we CANNOT ALLOW PETS.
Also, sorry no tent camping. RV's only. We do not provide bathrooms or showers on site. Don’t have an RV? RENT OURS! We have everything you need for your family. Enjoy a weekend on the farm and glamp in our RV. We have all the amenities of home.
Coming to enjoy the area? The property is just a few mins off the 101 freeway on the Central Coast. We are only 15 mins South of Pismo Beach, 30 mins south of San Luis Obispo and an hour North of Santa Barbara. The beach, wineries and shopping are all very close. Or if you are looking for a quiet retreat with some super sweet farm animals stay here and enjoy the farm.
We do rent both sites out at the same time so if it’s privacy you are looking for please message us. Or If you would like to camp with friends or family we can accommodate two additional trailers. Again please message us to arrange this.

Hazel homestead hosts were very helpful and flexible. Their communication before booking, upon arrival and throughout the entire stay was amazing. They were extremely welcoming. The site had all amenities you could dream of including farm fish eggs. The entire property is beautiful and very well kept. The animals were so great! (The animals were not loud or anything that comes with farm animals, since they keep the property so clean) We've stayed at a few hipcamp site in the area, this one was the best, cleanest, had and most amenities, best hosts, and very informative. Can't wait to come back! Thanks for having us!

I really enjoyed tent camping on Kim’s land, the directions leading to the camping site were easy, it felt like we were fairly isolated, even though we could see different buildings or the road from the site.
I had reception, although hardly, but it was easy enough to get to the next town for food, supplies, or wifi.
The stars were amazing, there is a “ghost town” under an hour away, that was surprisingly enjoyable, and there seems to be plenty of trails for ATVing or motorbikes.

Our stay at the Bee Box RV site was absolutely incredible! The spot was impeccably clean, peaceful, and surrounded by beautiful scenery. The setup is fantastic, with a great covered patio, relaxing fire pit, and a spotless private bathroom.
The staff was exceptionally friendly. A special shoutout to David, who gave us a warm welcome and a wonderful tour of the property. While there, we bought some of their olive oil and fresh pressed pomegranate juice, hands down the best I’ve ever had! Highly recommend this beautiful, scenic getaway. We'll be back!

Song dog ranch was an incredible place to stay. The locations are spread apart and the views of the sunrise/sunset and the stars are just amazing. Jim and Jen were amazing hosts and such great hospitality. I would definitely recommend others to check this place out.

First, as everyone else says on here, John is a fantastic host, we really appreciated his hospitality. He has put a lot of effort in making his place meet all the campers needs.
Here’s need to know.
We booked site 8 but moved to site 6 because our truck was too tall for the trees. Site 8 is great for smaller cars and tents as it’s close to the bathroom and entrance.
I’d say if you’re camping with a large vehicle and or large tent, try to get sites 1, 2, or 6. 1 is close to the outhouse, sink and showers.
John has made a nice outhouse area, and even though they’re outhouses, they don’t smell because he has motion sensor light and ventilation fans inside. Showers do cost extra but are definitely worth it, and they’re nice and hot! He also keeps a freezer down there with extra bags of ice.
There is quite a bit of wind, so anchor your things. It was in the 80s when we were there but it was quite cool in the shade with the wind and nice breeze. But if you have any respiratory issues, the wind and dryness may be an issue.
I would not recommend this for large RV/motorhomes but medium to small camping works great!
Lastly, no cell service at the camps but if you walk up the hill a bit, you get service and great views!

What an amazing find and what awesome hosts. Sierra and Darin were so welcoming and what a special place! We were excited to have a communal grill space, and let our kids and dogs roam free. Our boys loved the razor tour, the dunk tanks, goat and chickens, and of course the propane fire pit evenings at our site with the most incredible sunset view. Also if you don’t have camping gear - they have you covered with blow up tents, Westi vans, and trailers!! We’ll definitely be back!

Very clean and beautiful land. It was nice seeing the deer and birds roaming through. The canvas tent felt like glamping. The bathroom was surprisingly pleasant and didn’t smell. You can hear the nearby road but I think that happens anywhere in idyllwild.

This was our second camping trip at Songdog and we loved every moment with our dogs + friends! Camp 4 West on the mesa is stunning. Incredible vistas, sunsets, and the perfect amount of privacy from your camp neighbors. At night, it’s so quiet and serene and THE STARS are gorgeous! Definitely recommend getting the soaking tub at your site if it’s hot. We will be back!
