1 night at Lakeshore Retreat

Beautiful area for tent camping! There’s a bathroom, water spigot, and tables — everything you need for a comfortable stay!! The views are gorgeous and even though the street is nearby, you forget about it quickly because of how pretty the area is.

2 nights at Ballard Walnut Grove

The Ballard Walnut Grove was amazing! The owner was very accommodating and even offered Candied walnuts, sourdough, and Cookies for $10 each and so I grabbed one of each and they were worth every penny!!!! SO GOOD!!! Now that I'm writing this I'm craving more of those Candied slightly spicy walnuts!! The grounds were quiet and we even walked around in the mornings to take a look around and it was just perfectly peaceful and quiet which is what we needed! It was also just a short 40 min drive to Pismo beach from there and not even 5 minutes away from Solvang so we definitely got our money's worth and it was a memorable experience with the firewood they provided because our Children got to experience their first camping experience along with smores! PLUS there is an amazing wooden fort/park that is legendary for children to play at like 2 minutes away!!!

2 nights at Harmony's Glamping

Harmony's Glamping is a MUST VISIT! We stayed in the Hermit Dome and were stunned by how peaceful and serene our entire stay us. From the sounds of the babbling brook below, to the incredible outdoor shower... you'll feel like you're in your private piece of paradise. Definitely remember to bring all your own kitchen items (pots, pans, cutlery...) but besides that - Harmony leaves so many perfect little touches that were very appreciated! We hope to come back soon!

Love how secluded our site was (diamond).It was delightful to chat with Mike, and he and Anne even left us a bag of shelled walnuts. They were so good that we bought 4 bags from their roadside farmstand for friends

1 night at Lakeshore Retreat

We loved this spot a lot, great for short stays or fishing trips, I wouldn't recommend for long stays with little ones, it could get really loud because the street next to it plus neighbors across front have noisy dogs, also the porta potty waste really dirty and some visible trash around the property during our stay probably from long weekend previously guests, anyway it was a good trip.

What a special campsite! We had an amazing time at Mike & Anne's walnut grove. The site was flat, there was a firepit stocked with wood, a lovely porch swing, and when it got dark, we got to enjoy the lights strung up around on the site. The walnuts are delicious too! If you visit, be sure to walk over to the winery next door for a tasting too - We brought a bottle back to the campsite to enjoy under the stars.

Very thoughtfully set up. Site was also very quiet and we loved that it was so close to wineries etc. Mike came by and was very welcoming and the walnuts were a nice treat with our morning yogurt. Would definitely recommend.

Weekend Trip to Lakeshore Retreat

Had a nice long weekend tent camping. Location has 2 elevations were you could set up camp. Upper area has some nice trees that provide good sheade. Overall pretty even and flat surface for the tents. It's a little windy in the mornings, so you need to make sure to stake down the tents. Soil is hard, glad we always pack a hammer and HD stakes, otherwise it would have been impossible to stake them down2. Location has a docking area for boats and is close to gas stations, restaurants and supermarkets. It's close to the road so you will have some noise from the cars driving by but it did not bother us much. There is a port-a-poti but no shower and 2 picnic tables with bench seating. Enjoyed using the fire pit. Would definitely book again.

This exceeded our expectations. Staying in a walnut orchard surrounded by vineyards was surreal. So quiet and peaceful. This will be a return trip for sure. Anne was a gracious hostess and welcomed us as well as provided recommendations. We are lucky to not live so far as we will def. rebook. Just what we needed.

Weekend Trip to Harmony's Glamping

What a dreamy little place! It was everything I thought it would be and more. The dome is so cool. I thought it was a bit pricey until we got to the waterfall. We were lucky enough to have it to ourselves that day. It felt like a scene out of a movie! The water was beautiful and there were some lounge chairs and floaties that made it even better. The well water used for drinking, the sinks, the outdoor shower and hot tub was great! I know the hot tub add on is pricey as well, but I would definitely recommend! It was really romantic and a very unique experience that I’ve never seen anywhere else. The campsite itself was nicer than I thought it would be! There was a fun little tire swing, a ping pong table, corn hole and more. My boyfriend and I had a blast! We stayed in the hermit dome, which is definitely the most romantic and secluded of the sites. It’s up on a hill and hidden behind a boulder, as opposed to the other sites which are a bit closer to each other. If you’re going for romance, go for the hermit dome! Couldn’t recommend it here enough, and Harmony was such a sweetheart! We couldn’t figure out the shower, and she came down to help us with it. I will 100% be coming back this summer with my girlies. This is a really special place!! We brought our dog and she loved it too. The waterfall hike isn’t super difficult, it’s just a lot of bouldering up the creek. We had to help our dog at a couple points on the way, but coming back she was a pro and raced through.

2 nights at Harmony's Glamping

The place is very beautiful and peaceful. Harmony was kind and offered us an upgrade to the fairy dome, so this is a review for that site. Everything was clean and lovely to stay in and had a very comfortable bed and extra pillows. It was great having the shower outside in nature and being right next to the creek allowed us to fall asleep to serene running water. The drive down to the site is definitely one to prepare for with 4WD- seriously, don’t risk it with an oversized vehicle or only 2WD. The only downside would be that the portables were not cleaned after the weekend (we arrived Monday and stayed until Wednesday) and they were full and unbearably smelly to use. Would’ve been nice if they were emptied to not dread going into them to use the bathroom. Other than that, a great experience.

The site was very level and clean and in a beautiful walnut Grove. the hosts provided a fire pit and firewood in addition to a picnic table and some easy easy chairs and a game of cornhole. Thank you to the hosts for the yummy walnuts. The house gave us some good recommendations for local eateries and sites. This was a very quiet site with only one other campervan. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

We love the privacy and beauty of the grove. Our second time staying there and we love it. So close to everything. We went to waterfalls, a swim in the ocean and dinner in downtown Salvang all within minutes from the site. We will be back again.

This was my ideal camping experience and I definitely hope to come again! The creekside fairy dome was so beautiful and waking up next to the creek was so nice. It was very private and although the waterfall trail was difficult it was so worth it!

I love tent camping.Ed’s land was nice and clean with two camping tables for larger group.there are two trees on the land upper side which are made a good shade on the hot days so you can move the table over there or take midday nap.fortunately the street is not busy at the night so cars noise not gonna bother you and the other side on the lake jet skies and boats make a lot of noise until evening.Overall we enjoyed there . I had comunication with Ed by text,He responded me all the time very quickly .The direction is clear also inside the land is water so you can use it for wash dishes or hands.We were there with friends and I think if you want go there with family it should be fun for kids.

Weekend Trip to Harmony's Glamping

Harmony’s place is an absolute treasure. It’s a quiet, natural sanctuary for real rest and commune with the land. We had the most wonderful time exploring the river and waterfall with our dog and spending early nights cooking and hanging at the Hermit Dome. Nothing beats a good outdoor shower either. It’s not hyperbole when I say I’d like to die here.

Booked through Hipcamp, the process was smooth and Ed was a responsive and welcoming host. The campsite itself was clean, spacious, and had stunning views of the lake and surrounding hills. We loved how peaceful and quiet the area was—perfect for disconnecting and enjoying nature. Whether you’re into hiking, birdwatching, or just looking to unwind under the stars, this spot is a hidden gem. Centered around a 100+ acre meadow, filled with horses in summer months and surrounded by thousands of acres of mountainous National Forest. Just 15 minutes from Big Bear Lake - a large recreational, fresh-water lake for summer swimming, boating, skiing, fishing and other super fun water activities. The Ranch feels remote and private. Yet is only four miles to the town of Big Bear with shopping and restaurants. Also in close proximity to incredible rock climbing at the Pinnacles, seemingly endless hiking and biking and some pretty epic off-roading 4x4 trails. Each campsite is approximately one acre, and generously-distanced from neighboring campers. Amenities include its own fire ring with grilling grate and picnic table(s). The campsites are both cozy enough for 2 or spacious enough for large groups and can easily accommodate a mix of RVs, camper vans and tents. From June to October the 100+ area open meadow is filled with horses grazing and galloping about (please don't pet or feed!) A four-seasons destination, the Ranch has year-round experiences with warm summers and snowy winters. An excellent basecamp, within close proximity to the lake, ski slopes, Pinnacles, hiking/biking and off-roading trails. After a day filled with adventure or ultimate relaxation, be sure to enjoy the breath-taking sunsets over the meadow. The evenings blanket guests with a sea of stars. Toast up some s’mores and warm up some hot-coco over a beautiful, crackling campfire. Remember the s’mores and always follow the “Leave No Trace” principles. Please research which of the surrounding forestry roads allow for your vehicle type to be driven on. Campsites on the west side of the meadow (F, G & H sites) are partially accessed by a forestry road that does not allow dirt bikes. Horses: The horses which may be roaming the meadow during your stay are not property of Holcomb Valley Ranch. When horses are present, guests and their pets are prohibited from entering the meadow. We believe it will give you a better appreciation of life's simpler side. That being said, and to maintain the balance here at home, we'd appreciate if you keep your dogs in your car until you get to your site. Our offerings include fresh air and sunshine, amazing night sky, endless views, and plenty of space and privacy to enjoy your moments in nature. You'll find our amenities and activities puposefully sparse here. Upon booking, there are about 5 miles of dirt road on the property that you are welcome to explore on foot or by bicycle. Rustic is the theme here. There is no shower, no wifi, and no electricity available, but you will enjoy your own private spigot and the cellular service is acceptable. For any sites located south of Ballinger Wash, your vehicle length is limited to 22' and no more than 4' overhang from the rear axle, so you don't get stuck in the crossing and block access for others. Towing services are 1-3 hours away. Our Songdog Camps are sparsely scattered atop a 200 foot mesa that looks west over a valley offering stunning desert sunsets and amazing stargazing. These UPPER SITES are NOT OHV friendly, but any of our canyon bottom sites are a great base for your riding adventures up in Ballinger Canyon OHV. We'll be happy to recommend a site for you. **Forest Service law enforcement is actively ticketing unplated OHV on Ballinger Canyon Road. Be sure to know and abide by the laws.** Our friendly cancellation policies vary between 24 hours for simple campsites and 72 hours for our Glamp sites and Group sites. Be sure to check the Google for distance to Cuyama Valley, and your dates for availability and site descriptions. There is a chorus of frogs throughout the spring nights, and crickets year round! It's a very short walk to the neighborhood park- equipped with several types of playground equipment and public creek access, or a five minute drive to a Crestridge Ecological Reserve containing multiple trails. We have three campsites and a cabin on about an acre of land. If you'd like to hang out on the property, we offer a table and chairs with each campsite to lounge in while enjoying the fresh air and nature. There are also a couple of hammocks available. In addition, our SHARED amenities include an outdoor kitchen that includes a sink with hot water, 2 mini fridges,(full at times, extra coolers available) coffee maker, a two burner stove, a griddle, a toaster oven, blender, tea kettle, and a few pans, plates, bowls, cups, and utensils. Also here to SHARE is a Propane fire pit and BBQ area. The bathroom now includes a flush toilet, sink and shower. We are continuously making improvements. Fun Fact: Harbison Canyon was named after John Stewart Harbison - aka the King of the Bee Keepers. He arrived with over one hundred colonies of bees in 1874 and within 7 years he became the world's largest honey producer! Today there are just a few bees in the area.

Splitrock Farm Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers. Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 200 foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. This is a mountainous bumpy dirt road with steep sharp corners. A regular car can make it, just be warned you may bottom out a couple times. We do have a Jeep Wrangler available for rent on site. Each plateau has several great spots to car/van/truck camp, pitch a tent or park small trailers and small RVs. Larger RVs/Trailers fit on the front side of our property. SUMMER/FALL: Expect the landscape and views to be golden brown (not green and lush like in a lot of the photos posted which were taken this past winter/spring.) All of our sites are spread out with plenty of space for social distancing. DRY CAMPING: All of our sites are DRY camping (no water/electricity.) We provide a picnic table and one umbrella and a propane fire pit with a propane tank. Please bring additional shade structures if you think you’ll need more shade. Our best sites, with little-to-no traffic noise, (and the best views) are on our back property. Best suited for tents, camper vans, trucks, and SMALL trailers or SMALL RVs. There is a semi-steep hill up to our upper property if you're towing a trailer you will need a powerful vehicle to make it up the hill. Sites on our lower property by the common area are easily accessible with views up the hills/mountains but come with some highway noise. We imagine it sounds like waves crashing and call it the "steel river." For your private camp area, please bring your own drinking water, water to wash dishes and if think you'll need: chairs, camp tables, umbrellas or shade structures, trash bags/cans (throw your trash in the dumpster out side our entry gate when you leave. Plan on being fully self-sufficient. Otherwise, feel free to use the common area BBQ, Sink, tables and chairs at the barn until 10 pm. MOST DOGS WELCOMED... WE PROHIBIT UN-neutered aggressive breed dogs. DOGS ARE FREE TO RUN UNLEASHED ALL OVER OUR LAND. The front of our property is all. Fenced. The back property just has barbed wire. ABOUT OUR DOGS: We have one female dog and three male dogs (one of the three is UN-NEUTERED) a 10-year-old yellow lab (Titan-Dan.) A 14-year-old American Dingo (Reno.) 5-year-old Great Pyrenees (Bandit.) And then there is Cannoli a 7-year-old female Great Pyrenees who adopted us we saw her come through the bushes from the neighbors property across the highway… She ran across the highway and jumped the medium and ran up to our gate, she hasn’t left since… COMMON USE AREA: Inside and near the barn include tables, chairs, hammocks, wood fire pit, outdoor propane BBQ and stove, wash sink and outdoor mineral shower, and mineral cold plunge tubs. FIRE SAFETY and PROPANE FIREPITS: We have “very safe” propane firepits and fire extinguishers at every site. Under the right conditions, we will light a real wood fire at the common area by the barn. Feel free to join us in the early evening until 10pm. PORTA-POTTIES: We have porta-potties next to the Barn, the Garden, Running Dog Flats, and the Art Studio. They are pumped clean every Thursday and are generally very lightly used. If you don’t want to use the porta-potties we recommend/encourage you to bring your own camp toilet, bags, and absorbent. WILDLIFE: Our dogs do a great job of fending off the resident bobcat and coyotes on the front portion of our property and by the barn, if they are barking in the night there's a reason. If you end up camping on the front portion of our property and think their barking will affect your sleep, bring earplugs ;-). Drinking-WATER, Dish Washing Water and Shade: All of our sites are dry camping i.e. there is no potable water available. Please bring all your own drinking/dishwashing water. We have a picnic table and 1 umbrella at all the sites. Please bring additional shade i.e. easy up or other shade structures if you think you'll need it. Cold Mineral Dunks and Hot Outdoor Mineral Shower: We have huge aluminum cowboy cold dunk tubs available at what we lovingly/jokingly refer to as our very own “Cactus Flower Beach,” which is not a real beach… It feels like a beach because we’ve decked it out with lounge chairs, a daybed cabana, 150K pounds of sand and tiki-hut umbrellas. It’s fun to hang out there when it’s hot under the shade of the pepper trees. NOTE: The Outdoor Shower screening is a tad see-through. If you are shy, wear a bathing suit. Please limit showers to 3-5 minutes max. Mineral Water Definition: Water from a mineral spring or well (i.e. our well) that contains various minerals, such as salts and sulfur compounds. TRASH: Please pack all your trash out to the large trash bin located at the entrance to our property. Please take your recycling with you. ELECTRICITY and Wi-Fi: We have charging stations in the barn for your computers, phones, etc. Password: HowdyDoody (Accessible in and near the barn common area.) COMMISSARY: We have farm fresh eggs and meats from the pork palace across the street, and other swag i.e Hats for sale in the barn. FEED THE CHICKENS AND GOATS: Please feel free to feed the goats and chickens your vegetable scraps and or bring them a treat they love full heads of cabbage, lettuce, cantaloupe and watermelon. CHILDREN: For safety, children must be always accompanied by an adult! OUR RECOMMENDATIONS for THINGS TO DO WHILE YOU VISIT THE AREA: WINE TASTING We are in the heart of the wine country with a tasting room less than one mile away and/or a few short miles into the bst wine tasting rooms and wineries in Buellton, Solvang, Santa Ynez.
