Slide Ranch is a nonprofit organization established in 1970, becoming one of the first Park Partners in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Slide Ranch is located on the Marin coast, on land that has a rich history in connecting people to food. The Coast Miwok once fished and foraged for food at this site, and in the late 19th century Portuguese dairy farmers purchased the land and produced milk and butter for residents of San Francisco. In 1969, 134 acres of this fertile coastline were rescued from commercial development. Slide Ranch camping fees directly fund scholarships for youth programs throughout the year. Slide Ranch is an unpaved ranch environment. Our trails and garden paths all consist of uneven, sloping terrain, often muddy or soft ground during the winter season, and may be challenging to access for visitors with significant mobility restrictions. Minors aged 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult. No pets allowed; service animals are permitted. We do not have showering facilities or flush toilets. Water in all Slide Ranch taps is potable for refilling water bottles/jugs. Soap is provided for hand washing. Slide Ranch does not have any concessions on site. Excellent Group Site! We only host one group at a time so you can be with your family and friends in a large, flat and private space. We listed the site for up to 12 campers but feel free to reach out if your group is bigger. Please check out the newest addition of our cabin bunkhouse. Take a look at the pictures - you can add it to your stay as an extra when you book! The land was originally purchased in the 1980's. Since then, it has been used by four generations of the family as a place to gather, relax, camp and even celebrate. I had my wedding on the property in 2010. For a few years we held an annual music festival with the very inventive name of Samapalooza. Up to 400 people would attend the day filled with live music, food and drinks. You will still find the stage and bar we built as an outdoor kitchen and dining area. Around 2008, my father and I planted our first olive trees. Many have been planted since which has gifted the land the timeless sense of purpose it deserves. My father dedicated his last years to tending the young trees and now I have taken the mantle to carry the farm forward. 'The Property', as it is known amongst family and friends has always been a place to camp. I have sat around the same fire ring for decades, rain or shine. I hope that fellow hipcampers can find the joy that my family and I have experienced here. This is a very private camp on a small olive farm. Geographically close to highways and the town of Novato, Sonoma and Napa wine country, this camp feels remote and secluded. Only one camp on the property to keep it private and special. You basically have your run of the land. We have just updated the land and made some nice improvements. Located on ten acres, you will drive past a small olive grove before reaching the spacious and open campground. Just up the hill from the camp is a private pond where you can fish, take out a small boat or just sit and watch the birds. It can be great swimming on hot summer days. This spot has been used by the family for decades and is now open to share with fellow nature lovers. Just a note: While the majority of the time you can expect complete privacy, this is a working olive farm. From time to time you may run into me (Sam) or someone else associated with the land. Bill’s land was one of the best hip camps I have ever stayed at! The Indonesian bedroom was so serene and I slept like a baby with the heated bed. The bathroom was so beautifully decorated with ornate paintings, little treasures, and the stained glass window was intricately stunning. The hot tub was a bonus and it was extremely close to the town of Petaluma and hiking trails. You definitely should stay here for a romantic getaway!

1 night at Slide Ranch

I was the only camper! I weathered 3 hours of rain and wind to spend a night on Quail Hill. By 5 pm it had cleared and the morning was absolutely clear, calm and blue. I hiked all the trails and liked the Muir Beach Overlook, 1.4 miles. It's a gradual up with memorable views of the coast and ocean the whole way. Tent #1 held up in the wind, had two cots and two camp chairs. Spectacular views and the sound of the ocean all night. 5 minutes from the parking lot, downhill and then up a short steep path. It felt private. Loved it.

Weekend Trip to Estero San Antonio Wonderland

What a lovely place. It was so quiet. When it was clear, there were lots of stars out. The place is really charming, rustic, sweet. We had an awesome fire three nights in a row. It is so close to Point Reyes with all kinds of great hiking. One day we paddled our kayaks right from our site for several miles on the estuary. We saw river otter, great blue heron, and all kinds of other birds. The hosts were kind and very responsive.

Weekend Trip to Delta Respite

Ceci and Steve were so warm and accommodating for my dog and I last minute. I couldn't have imagined a better place to reset. This was my first time using hipcamp. I was set on finding a cozy inn to retreat to for the weekend and get somewriting done. Of course everything was booked or insanely expensive so I turned to hipcamp and I truly couldn't have planned it better. The cabin had everything I needed to be comfortable. You could really tell that so much thought went into every little detail. From the clawfoot tub, to porch with the little fenced in yard. Every light was on a dimmer! I was so charmed by this as someone who works with light a lot (photographer) and love creating ambiance! Clearly they poured their hearts into creating such an amazing space. I kept joking to my friends the cabin was like a storybook and I felt like I was the Celestial Seasons Bear. They were both so sweet to my dog Beaux and we had lots of nice walks around the property and beyond. Only downside was it was a bit muggy and buggy at times so definitely prepare if you're sensitive to mosquitos or other critters. This was no fault of Ceci & Steve's and to be expected when visiting the Delta! Oh, and there really were so many amazing birds to view and the sound of birdsong and coyotes throughout the day and night. The whole experience was so dreamy and relaxing and I definitely want to go back!

Weekend Trip to Wise Oak Farm

Stayed here with a friend visiting from out of town for a night and we really enjoyed our time at the Wise Oak Farm Tiny House. Between the house, rec room, barn and farm, there wasn’t a dull moment and it felt more like spending time at a friend’s home than an unfamiliar rental. The house is just a short drive to Sebastopol and Santa Rosa downtown for convenient access to restaurants and entertainment. But once at the house, you feel like you’re hours away from the hustle and have nature’s beauty to enjoy. The place is clean, well decorated and provided sufficient amenities. My friend and I also discussed staying here again for future visits. Thank you Daniel for providing a wonderful and thoughtful space.

6 nights at Delta Respite

I had such a restorative, restful time at Steve and Ceci’s beautiful cabin on their farm on Sherman Island. I had been worried that it was too close to civilization to give me the peace and quiet I was looking for but this couldn’t have been further from the truth. While the cabin was close enough to town to meet with friends in Walnut Creek or get supplies, it was far enough away to feel worlds away from San Francisco. Steve and Ceci were consummate hosts, providing everything I needed from additional firewood for the fire pit (and accompanying fire building assistance!) to bottled water. The clawfoot tub with bath salts was a particularly lovely touch but the cabin was extremely comfortable and well-appointed. My dog absolutely adored staying here, and was able to roam the large property that was completely fenced in, meeting the farm dogs and the chickens. There is even a hammock and a comfortable lounge chair to do some reading in the shade. What more could you ask for?

What a beautiful site! The pictures accurately represented the property, but there was so much more to experience! The view of the city is amazing, and even more so during sunset. The amenities were great and included a window fan, microwave, and mini fridge. We were so happy with our stay. Communicating with Oscar was easy and quick. We had the most wonderful stay in this tiny home! The outdoor living space is perfect, and inside, the living area with a pull-out couch was so cozy. Every detail was thoughtfully decorated, and there was a place for everything- everything felt so cute and organized. Loved the two beds in the tiny home and then another whole space with the pull out couch- The spot is incredibly quiet and peaceful; waking up to birds chirping and hearing owls at night made it truly magical. We would absolutely come again and highly recommend this gem!
