Cold Creek is a unique 112-acre property in the San Bernardino National Forest. Because of its location in a 3,200 foot elevation, it's colder than the Southern California deserts and warmer than the cold mountains above us. Our temperatures rarely exceed 90F and rarely drop below 40F. We have plenty sun and about two to three days of snow every winter. A year-around creek keeps everything green and fresh around the year. We are the second owners since 1913, and operate a small organic orchard on the property. Newberry Springs, California is a very small peaceful town located off of Historic Route 66, also known as the "Mother Road".
It is most famously known for our groves of pistachios and the famous Baghdad Cafe which was featured in the 1987 film Baghdad Cafe. Our property happens to be 1.5 miles from the famous Baghdad Cafe which makes a quick visit to the Cafe incredibly convenient.
To celebrate our Pistachios, come join us the first Saturday of every November for our Pistachio Festival which boasts lots of vendors, food, and fun!
Speaking of festivals, if you like large firework shows in the sky, then you'll want to be sure to book a spot here every July 3rd for our big 3rd of July Festival which again, is home to lots of vendors, food, fun and an amazing firework display which we happen to have front row seats to. You won't have to worry about parking if you're already here!
Do you love celestial events? If so, you'll want to book a site here between July 17th and August 24th for the 2025 year, to witness the Perseids Meteor Shower. Holcomb Valley Ranch invites you to kick back and relax on our private, 400+ acre ranch in the San Bernardino Mountains. Centered around a 100+ acre meadow, filled with horses in summer months and surrounded by thousands of acres of mountainous National Forest.
Just 15 minutes from Big Bear Lake - a large recreational, fresh-water lake for summer swimming, boating, skiing, fishing and other super fun water activities.
The Ranch feels remote and private. Yet is only four miles to the town of Big Bear with shopping and restaurants. Also in close proximity to incredible rock climbing at the Pinnacles, seemingly endless hiking and biking and some pretty epic off-roading 4x4 trails.
Each campsite is approximately one acre, and generously-distanced from neighboring campers. Amenities include its own fire ring with grilling grate and picnic table(s).
The campsites are both cozy enough for 2 or spacious enough for large groups and can easily accommodate a mix of RVs, camper vans and tents.
From June to October the 100+ area open meadow is filled with horses grazing and galloping about (please don't pet or feed!) A four-seasons destination, the Ranch has year-round experiences with warm summers and snowy winters. An excellent basecamp, within close proximity to the lake, ski slopes, Pinnacles, hiking/biking and off-roading trails.
After a day filled with adventure or ultimate relaxation, be sure to enjoy the breath-taking sunsets over the meadow.
The evenings blanket guests with a sea of stars. Toast up some s’mores and warm up some hot-coco over a beautiful, crackling campfire. Remember the s’mores and always follow the “Leave No Trace” principles. There are large trash bins by the entrance.

Please note:
OHV’s are allowed. They count as one of the allowed vehicles per campsite and must adhere to the speed limit (10mph) and remain on established camp roads while on the property. They may not be driven from 8pm to 8am. It is strictly forbidden to ride your vehicles through the forest, meadow or off any established roads on or off property. Please research which of the surrounding forestry roads allow for your vehicle type to be driven on. Campsites on the west side of the meadow (F, G & H sites) are partially accessed by a forestry road that does not allow dirt bikes.
Horses: The horses which may be roaming the meadow during your stay are not property of Holcomb Valley Ranch. When horses are present, guests and their pets are prohibited from entering the meadow. Please do not approach, interact, feed or touch the horses. This is for your safety and the safety of the horses. Do, however, take lots of photos! They make a perfect backdrop:)

My family and I booked a last minute stay here and the hosts were incredibly accommodating, despite short notice. They set up a campfire for us upon arrival and made us feel welcome. The site was spacious with plenty of room for a large tent. We appreciated the clean bathroom and beautiful outdoor shower. Would recommend.

The property and the host were amazing! The camping area was beautiful and secluded, and was the perfect spot for a private get away with friends. There were 3 picnic tables and a big cleared area with a centralized fire pit.
There were plenty of spaces for larger vehicles/RV’s, and also many level places to pitch tents. Hiking on the property, and listening to a huge variety of birdsong were my favorite parts. Numerous long and short hikes in the San Bernardino National Forest were just a few min drive away.
The host was readily available for questions and always answered texts within a few min.
The WIFI was an unexpected bonus and allowed us to keep tabs on the World Cup scores. :)
Definitely coming back to Camp Durrwood!!

Directions were clear and the property was easily accessible. We absolutely loved the property, the privacy and the many options for dispersed camping. We booked this spot at the last second and received directions and instructions from the host within minutes. His communication throughout our stay was top-notch. I am reluctant to share how awesome this camp site is because I dont want to make it any harder on myself than it is too book a site, but I must admit its spectacular. If you love the Big Bear mountains and wants a great base camp to explore the mountains look no where else. I moto camp up there all the time, its the best because they provide fire wood, fire pits and have potable water. Ed the site director is just the best. Always checks in, but never bothers and really makes it easy.

I really enjoyed tent camping on Kim’s land, the directions leading to the camping site were easy, it felt like we were fairly isolated, even though we could see different buildings or the road from the site.
I had reception, although hardly, but it was easy enough to get to the next town for food, supplies, or wifi.
The stars were amazing, there is a “ghost town” under an hour away, that was surprisingly enjoyable, and there seems to be plenty of trails for ATVing or motorbikes.

We really loved camping at the Holcomb Valley Ranch! The camp sites were huge compared to what you usually get at a regular site, so you had a really good separation from other campers. The site was well shaded, but had plenty of areas to soak up the sun. The valley itself was really beautiful so next time, I'm going to request one of the sites right next to the valley for the incredible view. Best of all, for us, our dogs could be off leash (with respect to other campers). The larger camp site area meant that with them off leash, they were way more relaxed and were able to explore on their own more, which also, I'm sure made them happier. Close enough to Big Bear if needed, but far enough away that it felt perfectly isolated. We are definitely coming back.

We had a great time at Holcomb Valley Ranch. The campsite was clean and our space was large. We are able to fill up the RV with water when we arrived, which was super helpful. Quiet hours were quiet and the place was peaceful. Our dog was off the leash for most of the time, and it was fine.
