The road continues on and makes a northbound loop and meets the Hwy 101 at Laytonville. The road is well maintained and any vehicle can travel the 9 mile trip which takes about 30 minutes driving moderately.
This area offers great mountain biking, days on the river, hikes along the new designated state hiking trail along the Dos Rios railroad tracks.
Trips to the Mendocino National Forest, bird watching and wildlife in general to see, there are many indigenous species in this microclimate of two rivers.

My aunt and uncle bought the property in 1947 from its first European settler, Paolo Gabrielli, who immigrated in early 1914 from northern Italy with slips of his grapevine in the lining of his coat. (The grapevine still grows over the back deck.) What can you expect? Quiet, beauty, birdsong, ocean roar, widely spaced campsites (only 5 on the 5 acres set aside for camping). Free firewood, local tips on travel and where to hike or what to visit. Or total solitude. Bring your (most non-cattle-chasing breeds) dogs if you wish (males must be neutered). Starlink internet. Walk to the beach of our wild ocean along a no-shoulder country road. We have no visible neighbors, no ambient light or sound. The air is clean and clear and the water is potable from an artesian spring on the property. No electricity at the sites and no generators allowed. (Charge your electronics at the farmhouse.) We offer homemade soup, cobbler, fresh bread, morning coffee as extras; you can order with the booking. The Victorian village of Ferndale is three miles east, as is a beautifully maintained 110-acre town wilderness with hiking trails called Russ Park. A 150-year-old cemetery slopes down a hillside & is filled with 19th century charm and history. Shops and restaurants welcome visitors. There are several bars/a wine bar/and a historic saloon that's as old boy as it was in 1890. A music venue in a restored 19th century church has amazing acoustics and attracts international talent as a top-notch venue (sessions are filmed for PBS) midway between Portland and San Francisco. So, it's a mix of town and country, village and farm, wilderness and bewilderedness. Safe, safe, safe, meaning: you can leave your belongings in your site and when you come back... they're still there :) One caveat: please arrive before dark. The coastal bike and hike trails are many. From South of Ft Bragg to the Sand Dunes near Ward Ave. you can travel over 7 miles one way and go down to quiet little beach coves along the way.
Meadow Farm is a nonprofit 501c3 with goals of coastal food security, disaster preparation and sheltering, carbon sequestering and forest restoration. We offer native plant tours on or off site with advance notice.
We like our dog companions! Two McNab collies, Moxie and Shama live here and may bark at first...still very friendly and social with people and other dogs.. There are several dog friendly off-leash areas such as, Noyo North Harbor Beach, Seaside Beach and dog parks in both Ft Bragg and Mendocino. Our farm is dog friendly tho we wish pets to be kept close, must be neutered and friendly to other dogs and people. Please be sure to bury or bag the waste.
Speaking of waste, Meadow Farm strives to reduce waste by avoiding plastic as much as possible, recycling what we can and composting our veggie scraps.
Please bring your own waste receptacles and take them along when you go. We take ours to the Caspar Transfer Station which is open Saturday through Wednesday... the location and hours can be found online.
Our water is from a deep well and we periodically test it for bacteria. It is cold and delicious. Our irrigation pipes that have spigots and hoses at each camp are safe for drinking, cooking and cleaning
Our solar pump moves water into storage tanks that provide all the water to the farm. It is very important that the water valves on your camp spigot is turned off (gently please) to avoid losing 2500 gallons of water in a short time.
If you see a leak or break in a line please contact us immediately. There are also water shut offs for the camps on the west side of the Farm House if you are unable to reach us right away..
When doing dishes we request that you use the strainer to catch food particles from the dish water and toss them in your trash or compost bucket. If you have vegetable waste let us know and we can pick them up for adding to the worm bins or composting piles. We make worm "tea" fertilizer and rich soil from these offerings. No animal products or oil please... a few egg shells are okay.
We do have the usual wildlife though we haven't had problems with them. Ravens will raid your camp if food or bags are left out while you are away.
From dusk to dawn keep children and pets close. We coexist well here with the critters...and glad to have them.

Situated near Dean Creek and the beautiful Eel River, this property is an ideal home base for exploring Southern Humboldt. Spend your days hiking among the redwoods, visiting Shelter Cove, or enjoying the many local festivals and outdoor activities the area has to offer.
Conveniently located just 1–2 miles from Redway and Garberville, you will have quick access to groceries, dining, and essentials while still enjoying a quiet, private setting.

Hawkhaven is a 9 acre mature redwood forest defined by a year-round creek where 2 species of salmon spawn. If you're quiet you might see river otters, deer, foxes, great blue heron, wood ducks, turtles, mergansers, grebes, mink, rabbits, raccoons, opossum, etc.
The land is called Hawkhaven because a pair of peregrine falcons nest in the cliffs above the creek. In some seasons you can see and hear them hunting and raising their young.
Bears can sometimes wander through, so please be careful with storing your food.
If you come during blackberry season, you can pick all the blackberries you want.
The Eel River is 5 minutes away and 2 beautiful beaches, Shelter Cove and Black Sands Beach are about 45 minutes away (they look closer on the map because the road winds a lot.)
There is a good natural foods store in town as well as 2 more standard supermarkets.
Dogs are allowed as long as you clean up after them and don't let them chase the wildlife.
Although the land itself is a wild forest, it is not hard to get to at all. It's right off of a paved road. The driveway is a bit rough, a large RV would have to take it slow. The camp sites cannot be seen from the road.
One campsite gets some sun, one is in solid shade, and 2 others have a mix of sun and shade depending on the time of day. Summer here can be really hot.. the shade is nice.

There are no amenities here. This space is only for completely self sufficient Hipcampers who want a truly rustic experience. There is no potable water or indoor space. There is a brand new basic outhouse. Cell phone reception is possible but spotty. Because of the huge trees, sometimes you have to go up to the road to get a good signal. There are no trash cans on site. We ask that everything you bring in with you, you bring out with you.

I felt like family even as I got in late. They are great at introducing all kinds of dogs to each other. Get there early for an ATV tour before you set up camp if you can!

Everyone is so kind and helpful here. There are both long term residents and passersby. The surroundings are lush and welcoming. Directly adjacent to the Avenue of the Giants.

This site was absolutely beautiful! Very peaceful and serene. Joseph was an excellent host and very accommodating. Lots of beautiful trees and wildlife and the facilities were clean. I would highly recommended staying here and hope to be back for one of their retreats.

Quiet camping well maintained and easy. Beautiful bathhouse and wonderful temple. Because there are people in silent meditation and because it’s held sacred. Probably not the best place for children.

This is a small family campground with lots of long term residents. The property was great for my pup, lots of room to roam. The bathrooms were old but very clean. Billie Jean was a very welcoming and friendly host. I would return to this location.

This is the best hidden gem. This retreat is so big you can spend couple of days exploring. The bathroom is evacuate. The hot shower is amazing. If you need to a place to mentally reset and reconnect with nature, this is the spot. We came with our kids and spent a night there before heading up to the redwoods. Its a great break if you dont want do one long drive.

Quiet spot for the RV. Easily fit our 25 foot airstream but disconnected the truck. Nice paved bike trail along the coast right next to Glass Beach.
Visited the Schnaubelt Distillery and enjoyed a flight of their liquor and cocktails!

We only stayed for one night. The place is conveniently located near freeway. We appreciate the full hookup. Less to worry about when traveling. The only suggestion I would make is to make the direction and space number to the assigned space more clearly. But I think most places are like this. We arrived late so it took a little bit to look around for the assigned space to park.

Such a relaxing and beautiful campground set inside the center's grounds. Sitting and watching 7 deer eating nearby as well as a family of turkeys. I recommend this place to anyone. The restrooms are also quite nice and extremely clean.

This is a truly beautiful place, offering a great location to explore the coast or the redwood forests to the north. The bathroom and shower facilities are really excellent, it is near 101 (with no traffic noise), and the people who care for the land are very helpful.

We loved Meadow farm and the peaceful atmosphere there. We watched the fog roll in in the evening, we played frisbee in the grass, and enjoyed being surrounded by trees. Sojourna let us move to one of the spots on the meadow (no hookups for the RV, but it's a much nicer spot up there!). Thanks Sojourna!
