This camp site is amazing! Tucked back on the hill so you get both shade and sun. Only 100ft (if that to the river). Nice swimming spot even though the currant is a little strong. Can drive straight up to camp site and have truck parked next to tent. All the camp sites are very clean and the Porto potties are the cleanest I have ever seen. Made the stay much better knowing they have clean toilets to use. Lots of privacy, camp site 8 is about 50 yards from site 9, and camp site 10 is all the way down at the end (can’t see them, nor hear them), love this spot!! Tom the property manager was awesome and super friendly. We chatted with him everyday as he came down to check on us and what a great guy. Rachael is also super friendly and has great communication in timely manner. Highly recommend booking this place.

This was our 86 trip in 3.5 years and is im the top 5 for sure. Tom checked in with us upon arrival and each day. The campsites are SO private and close to river. Not only are quiet hours enforced but noise overall the way camping should be. We shared a porta potty with another camp which was extremely clean. Put this campground on your go to list.

We loved tent camping on Site 10 of Rowan’s camp. Directions were clear and easy to follow. Everything is clearly labeled. The area is nice and sandy. It’s right next to the river. Portable toilet was perfectly cleaned and a short, but good distance from the site. Even though it rained, we loved it! Would definitely return again in the summer. We were greeted by Tom on arrival and he checked in on us the next day as well. There is a picnic table here, which is convenient. We were glad we brought our canopies! It’s a beautiful spot.

Had a great time here! Caught fish, used the canoe and paddle boat. Loved pulling the 5th wheel right up to the water. Kids had a great time and we’ll definitely be back. Thanks for sharing your property! Only thing we’d love to see added for the future is a picnic table, but otherwise the extra amenities were much appreciated!

Weekend Trip to The Painted Lake

This was my first experience camping on someone’s personal land. I had the opportunity to camp with my friend and her group of friends. Jeremy provided very detailed instructions for entry and location on the property, but even if you get confused he is super helpful and such a chill guy! We even met his son Hawk who helped make a fire pit for us! We camped on the horse and lake view site, which is right at the chicken coop. *Bonus* we were allowed to collect eggs to enjoy 😊 Something to look ahead is for weather, depending on your vehicle because there are a few steep inclines that get slippery in the rain. Also, bring shoes to hike in to go down to the lake as that also has a steep incline. Being able to pet the animals made the hiking worth it! We got to play with Juno and Luna along with the goats, horses and chickens. Side note, there are a lot of fun spots for photo ops. I would definitely camp here again!

Awesome time With a great view! Host was so kind and accommodating. We had so much fun kayaking. Convenient that there was a chicken coop with fresh eggs just a 3 min walk away. WARNING there is a semi steep hill dividing the tree house from outdoor kitchen/shower/portapotty. Car is parked maybe 4min walk away from treehouse and you have to cross the hill to reach the car, so just keep that in mind.

Beautiful site, this place is huge !!! Really good spot to disconnect, no cell coverage so it helps :) We had some rain but that was ok. Owner stopped by, very welcoming. Everything is well maintained and clean. Will come back for sure if there are space !

My girlfriend and our pups needed a break from the city. Rachel’s land was the perfect gem to retreat too! The views were fantastic and we loved hiking around the property observing the cows from afar. Would come back again!

It was beautiful! Very peaceful. We had a trailer and camped on the river. The sites were very spread out so lots of privacy. Tom the ranch manager came thru daily and helped with anything needed and answered lots of questions on almost anything, from how to pronounce the name of the river to local flower and trees. A great wealth of knowledge. There were lots of dirt roads to ride our e-bikes on which was a lot of fun! We will definitely go back and stay longer next time.

We stayed one night at Rachael’s campsite and absolutely loved it—especially Site 5! It was incredibly spacious and right next to the river, which made the experience so peaceful and relaxing. Even though our stay was short, we left feeling refreshed. We’ll definitely be coming back for a longer stay next time!

Located a couple of minutes outside of the gold rush town of Columbia, Squirel rock is a gem of a campsite. it’s possibly the nicest private camping you can find anywhere! The site is impeccably maintained and Julie has thought of just about every creature comfort one would need when RV camping.

Like many other reviews two thumbs up for this place. First, many of the sites themselves are right on the river and have been designed to give you a lot of privacy from the other sites. There is also hiking available, both on the river (some that require bushwhacking) and others along the dirt road with some trails that leave the road. We didn’t have time to check out those trails off the road but hope to next time. Overall we were very impressed with this place and what a fantastic job they did in creating some awesome campsites. As they note, this place is definitely for boondockers although they provide portable toilets that are well placed for convenience but also not too close to your campsite. A wonderful place to camp for a few days to either relax or do some hiking or biking. Lastly, if you have a Class B or C RV you might note they say you can’t RV there but check with Rachel and she will let you know what sites will work for your rig. We have a 23’ Class C and there are plenty of (but not all) sites to camp for that.

We had a wonderful camping experience at this spot. The host was incredibly helpful and a great communicator. Fishing in the pond was very successful, and I caught quite a few. We would definitely recommend this location to others. Thanks for a great time!

Learn more about this land: Our private camp is located riverside on the South Fork of the American River. Our sites are located next to the river under shady oak trees. You'll have a private place to relax and swim at the river. The river is swift but we have a few calm pools in front of our resort to wade and float in. We have modern restrooms with flush toilets and hot showers for your use. We can accommodate large groups and small private camp sites as well. We have a kitchen area available to large groups and special events. We provide a picnic table and trash can for each private campsite. Wood fires or charcoal cooking are not allowed after July 1 due to fire danger. You may bring a small gas stove to do simple cooking. There are several places to eat within a short walk from our campground. We do not allow cars to drive down to the campsites in order to keep the sites pristine. River access: If you’d like to visit the river to hang out, swim, or fish you can follow the dirt road next to the tent down to the river (3-minute walk). Come and enjoy the views of the river, forest, and wildlife! This is a private tent site with one other listing on the property which is located at the house. You may rarely see other guests during your stay. Check out is at 12pm. If you or anyone in your party stays past 12:30pm you will be charged for an extra night for your full party. For guests that come for the day but do not stay the night there is a $25 fee per guest(s). IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE: 1) To get the most out of your experience, we highly recommend a 4WD vehicle, or eBikes. 2) The creek is at the bottom of the canyon, 1.5 miles from the gate at the entrance, and the road down is very steep in parts. We highly recommend an off-road vehicle/ATV or eBikes for easy access to creek. 3) Be aware you are in the middle of the forest and wildlife such as bear, mountain lions, rattlesnakes, etc have been spotted on the property. Poison Oak is also common. 4) The property has cell service in the upper quadrant, however once you drop below the tree line toward the creek there is no service.
