Weekend Trip to Wackalulu's Wonderland

We had a wonderful weekend staying at the Boathouse at Wackalulu’s Wonderland! We spent our first afternoon/evening at the campfire on the creek. Then spent the next day exploring the river, wineries, and restaurants. It was the best of all worlds. We will definitely be back. Thanks Lynda and Rich for creating such a lovely space!

2 nights at Moon Bear Lodge

Jessica made sure that we were well taken care of and comfortable during our stay. She was very responsive via text to any questions we had during out trip. The mountain bikes you can rent from her are legit, as is the willow creek trail nearby. The treehouse was truly a unique experience and the lodge and surrounding area was gorgeous. The highlight was the hot tub overlooking the forest and valley north of the lodge, as well as the amazing outdoor shower. FYI, the treehouse has a powered lift for heavier supplies and a bucket on a rope/pulley for smaller items. You’ll need to use the ladder to get up and down the treehouse, so if heights are an issue this is not for you. The treehouse cabin itself feels relatively new in the inside, with a small fridge, cups, wine glasses, and potable water. Super comfortable mattress. Bring warm clothing but don’t be fooled; the upper loft gets nice and warm and the bedding is ample. Don’t mind the creaking/swaying that happens with the gusts for a few hours in the early evening; the treehouse is on rolling joists so this is normal and the movement predictably stops at night for bedtime.

We only camped for a night and we had a lovely experience staying in the RV. It’s tiny and cozy, perfect for glamping since it has all the amenities. Showers are outside, the restroom is inside, it’s a very tight space so you wouldn’t be able to close the door to it. Evan is a great host and facilitated our stay perfectly! The RV is very close to the neighbor’s house, there’s more area in the back with a lot of tall trees and a cute hammock area you can relax in. Also a patio area with chairs to have your morning coffee!

This spot was perfect for what I wanted for a quiet getaway. Deano was amazing! He was very informative before my arrival, and was there to provide real time instructions for a few things. He was easily reachable, which I appreciated. The Hipcamp spot was absolutely gorgeous and it afforded me a little coastal hideaway. My dog and I loved it so much!!!!

The fresh eggs were a great way to start the day and the view from the fire pit area was an even better way to end a day.

Sugarloaf is an amazing camping location. The camp hosts made it even better. They are kind, friendly, and very helpful. The set up was great. Morning sun and afternoon shade was ideal for late May.

2 nights at Estero San Antonio Wonderland

I loved spending two nights in the Blue Heron. It's such a cozy space that was perfect for a solo getaway. I enjoyed waking up surrounded by trees and bird song while having all the creature comforts of a comfy bed, a nice little kitchen for cooking, and lovely farm fresh eggs. Also, it's close to some of Marin and Sonoma counties most beautiful beaches and forests. Highly recommend!

This is the perfect place to disconnect, relax and unwind. It was so quiet and close to nature. But they have wifi should you need it. Truly the ultimate balance between comfort and the outdoors. I bet the view is even more spectacular in the summer. All the things here are well thought of. They really have everything you need (and more) for a comfortable stay. From beddings, cooking equipment and utensils, tableware, toiletries (they smell so goood), towels, firewood, to the nice-to-haves like game boards, books, binoculars, flashlight, coffee, tea, eggs and even a radio! Their homemade seasoning is great! Literally, just bring clothes and food. I have zero athleticism in me and had no issues walking downhill to the tent. Anybody can do it. Just pack light! William is also very accommodating and happy to share information about the trees, plants and flowers around. Half Moon Bay is 20 mins away, so you can even go on a side trip to the beach. There are also other places to discover like wineries, breweries and local shops and restaurants. We are so glad we discovered this gem and will definitely be back.

i can’t even start with how incredible my time was in tent 1. even though the weather turned and i couldn’t see the ocean, the marine layer dripping on the tent and in the trees, it created a bit of extra magic. the tent itself was cozy and so well thought out with what they had inside amenities wise. i was warm all night, keeping the first going until bed and closing the damper a bit worked. i enjoyed the eggs provided for breakfast and some tea. the outdoor shower and bathroom were wonderful, especially since it wasn’t shared with the other tents. it was quiet. everyone was respectful of the noise policy. william and sana are exquisite hosts and im grateful for this overnight stay. i picked up some goodies from the tiny farm stand outside the gate and the cocoa is delicious and the wood burned fir a long time at a beer by state park. can’t wait to return. thanks for everything!

Today, the 7-acre farm is being restored to sustainably support fruit orchards, cottage flower and kitchen gardens, honey bees, a boisterous flock of chickens, and naughty shetland sheep. Our self-serve farmstand attached to our barn has seasonal flowers, organic eggs, heirloom fruit, and local goods from the farm. A hundred years ago, this land was used to graze sheep. Remnants of the old fence lines can still be seen in places, along with old cement troughs. Sugarloaf Ridge State Park Glamping

We have four lovely Glamping sites at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and 25 miles of hiking trails, nestled in the glorious chaparral of the Mayacama Mountain Range and Sonoma Hills, deep in the heart of wine country. The cost is $150 per night on weekends (Fri and Sat) and $125 per night on weekdays (Sun-Thurs). There is a 2-night minimum stay required between Memorial Day and Labor Day. In our family-friendly campground, our tents are 16-Foot Canvas and come with one queen-size bed, two futon lounge chairs (May be converted to twin beds), rugs, tables, lighting, and complementary firewood the first night. At no additional cost, we can add up to two twin beds to each tent upon request to sleep up to 6 people. 8 people max allowed at the campsite. The glamping sites include a picnic table, fire ring, outdoor seating, and room for additional tents if desired. All sites are easy walking distance to flush toilets and a bathhouse, with large, clean, coin operated hot shower rooms. There is no cell service in the park, but free WiFi is available at the Visitor Center. PLEASE NOTE that Bedding (sheets, pillows, blankets) IS NOT included in a standard rental, but is available as an add-on. Guests are encouraged to bring their own bedding whenever possible. If no bedding is added, we will assume a one-queen setup with mattress covers only. We kindly ask guests to provide at least 48-hour notice if bedding will be required. We will always try to accommodate last-minute requests, but we cannot guarantee this. PETS and SMOKING ARE NOT ALLOWED INSIDE our glamping tents! Situated on top of a ridge with expansive redwood forest and coastal views, the Audrey Edna Cabin provides a completely private gathering place and destination for visitors with reservations. The cabin has spectacular views of forest, sky, ocean and the Butano ridgeline. It's a short hike to 8000+ acres of county parkland where you can hike, bike and ride horses (though please note, there are no facilities for horse boarding at the cabin.) The cabin is located at Alpine Ranch, a property adjacent to Sam McDonald County Park that was protected by Peninsula Open Space Trust (POST). Whether you are looking for an active experience or just want to relax in a peaceful, remote setting, there's something here for everyone. This is a rustic hike-in cabin designed for a introductory pack-in experience. Bedding is not provided. It is about a 1.7-mile hike on a rolling dirt road from the Sam McDonald County Park parking lot, with about 650 feet of elevation gain. Most hikers can reach the cabin in an hour or less. Guests should plan to arrive at least 2 hours before sunset, and pack water and flashlights or headlamps. Guests with limited mobility, please contact us for information regarding accommodations that will allow you to access this shared resource. *A note about reservation availability: On the weekends, POST offers priority reservations for the cabin to our partners at the San Mateo County Health Department and Park Rx to provide patients with equitable access to the benefits of nature. Occasionally, we have last-minute public weekend reservation availability due to cancellations. The cabin is reservable up to 3 months in advance, on a rolling basis. Property History: At one time, the ridge of the Santa Cruz Mountains was a thriving center for trade between tribes of the coast and the bay, which we still find evidence of today in cultural sites and artifacts throughout the region. Native people have cared for this land since time immemorial, including the local Muwekma and Ramaytush Ohlone who are still active in the area today. This property specifically is host to a tributary to one of just a handful of waterways that support salmonids in this region, which are a species of tremendous importance to native people. Over 1000 acres here were eventually purchased by entrepreneur Ridgeway Rowley, who built a home on the ranch in the 1880s as part of an unsuccessful wedding proposal to Fannie Page, daughter of a local mill owner (ever heard of Page Mill Road?) After being rejected by Fannie, Rowley operated the ranch for a decade in conjunction with his work as District Attorney and publisher of the Palo Alto Weekly, before eventually returning to his hometown of Cortland, NY, where he lived as a bachelor until his death. Over the course of the 20th century, the ranch was divided, some parts of which became Pescadero Creek County Park. POST purchased the 350 acre home property, now called Alpine Ranch, in 2012 through our Heart of the Redwoods campaign, an initiative to protect 20,000 acres of Redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Alpine Ranch borders Pescadero Creek County Park and Sam McDonald County Park, adding to the area’s protected open space and containing more than a mile of tributaries to Pescadero Creek, which flows year-round and is a major spawning stream for steelhead trout. The Audrey Edna Cabin at Alpine Ranch is situated at one of the property's most scenic overlooks. The cabin was built in the early 1900's, and completely reconstructed up to modern building codes by POST in 2018 so that all could enjoy this special place.

Welcome to Calistoga! We invite you to stay on our family's land, 10 minutes outside of town. The Camp is named after the ridge in sight on the far north end of the property - the Whaleback. You can hike the fire trails to get there, or chill at your camp, relax... There are 3 options: Shaded Oak ($49) quiet, private, for vans, small trailer or tent; has propane fire pit Married Manzanitas ($49) is a very large, privately wooded site that is walk-in or requires 4wd/ground clearance (drive in at your own risk, or park and walk in), tent only, or also offers an optional Cabin for +$30 per night ($79) Coral Cabin on the hilltop ($109/night, + $30 cleaning fee) is closest to the civilized amenities, electricity, wifi etc and has a TV with roku. Your toilet and shower are still outside, but this is the closest to a hotel experience with clean sheets ready on your arrival. Cabin has AC for hot summer days, and a private deck with dinner bar around back. All sites have access to the hilltop Recharge Station, recently cleaned up! Recharge Station has an outdoor shower, two bathtubs, tables and chairs, and a large stainless steel countertop with sink. If multiple sites are occupied, Coral Cabin has priority for use of facilities before 9am and after 5pm. Shaded Oak and Married Manzanitas guests can use the facilities between 9am-5pm, being mindful of each other's privacy and/or coordinating shower times. Each site has its own compost toilet, and Married Manzanitas has its own ambient-temperature shower. As much as possible, guests should use the toilet in their own sites. When Coral Cabin is vacant, there is more flexibility in using the amenities at the Recharge Station, which include: -sink with well water -Mini-fridge with freezer -Microwave, coffee maker, toaster -Camp stove to use outside; propane grill is currently out of commission (will update when it is fixed) -Games, puzzles, books, sports equipment, a kids telescope -kayak equipment to rent, tennis rackets/balls for courts in town Dan is your camp host, not always on site, always avail. by text. Enjoy the days lounging/boating at the Russian River (Monte Rio beach is just blocks away) and in the evening enjoy soaking in the hot tub under the redwood shaded stars. Day trips are easy to Bodega Bay, hikes in Armstrong Woods, the Ocean, or boating on Lake Sonoma. The Northwood Golf course is also very close and is open to the public. For wine enthusiasts, the closest winery is less than 10 miles away (or champagne at Korbel). Just a bit further is the turnoff to Westside/Dry Creek Road, a beautiful, winding country road with picturesque vineyards following the river up into Healdsburg. Your world-class wine tour awaits!
