A dry toilet is a short walk from campsites and we equip sites with a water dispenser and a sealed container for trash. Water from our well is always available outside of the restaurant and bathrooms with running water are available during business hours.
There is a fire trail along one of our ridge lines that offers stunning views of the San Antonio Valley as well as our abundant wildlife. We sometimes host speakers and educational workshops and guests are always welcome to participate in events.
Campers, trailers, RVs and Vans are welcome to stay in our lot but we currently do not have hookups available.

The Forbes Island off-grid event venue and campground are at Bradford Island in the Sacramento River Delta. The floating barge is moored next to our private ranch, utilized for tent and RV camping for larger groups. We limit rentals to single groups for ultimate privacy in a natural setting. You and your guests enjoy the remote Sacramento River Delta wetlands while being only a short drive from the Bay Area. Guests have direct access to water sports and private docks.
*Note: Forbes Island requires passage via the Bradford Island car ferry (see schedule below), a personal watercraft, or a captained passenger ferry boat that must be booked in advance. Boat dock space is included.
History:
Forbes Thor Kiddoo came to San Francisco in 1959 after a stint in the Coast Guard. A carpenter and engineer, he developed a business constructing houseboats in Sausalito. Then, inspired by Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo and the movie version of “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”, Forbes Kiddoo built himself an underwater home, complete with portholes for watching the fish swim past, a diving hatch and a grand bedroom suite fit for a captain of his private world. In the ’90s, Forbes added a 40-foot lighthouse and a white picket fence.
Today, a small group of committed friends has preserved and kept Forbes Island afloat for community events, opening it for all to experience and enjoy. Your rental helps us to maintain this totally unique, fabulous find into the future.

quiet dead-end road located on a cul-de-sac make for extremely peaceful parking and relaxing with near zero noise except for the occasional neighbors dog barking. our back yard hill butts up to back diamond regional mines park which is 50 square miles california state park that offers hiking and mine tours from California's coal mining and gold searching days. I recommend the mine tours especially on hot days. The mines are a nice place to escape the heat. tours are about $5 per person. here is a link to the mine tours website.

Boating is available on the San Joaquin River delta that is the headwaters of the San Francisco Bay. the marina and waterfront are about 3 Miles away by the way the crow flies and visible from the top of our backyard hillside.
Also downtown San Francisco can be accessed from the property via the Bart train that has two stations nearby. One is 6 miles away and another is 3 miles away. I bike/ train to San Francisco almost daily from this property.
EV parking or charging coud be accessed also. we have a nacs or tesla charger at two locations that are sloped down in grade. one slow charger (3 mph and one faster one about 13mph)

We love the wildness of this property and do not allow cars or vehicles beyond the parking lot. All of our sites are hike in sites. It's about a 1/4 mile hike on a small foot path. We have a wagon available for guests to use and we are happy to help you carry your things. Our swimming pond is about a 3/4 mile hike through brush from the restaurant but is a great way to beat the heat during the day!

A dry toilet is a short walk from campsites and we equip sites with a water dispenser and a sealed container for trash. Water from our well is always available outside of the restaurant and bathrooms with running water are available during business hours.
There is a fire trail along one of our ridge lines that offers stunning views of the San Antonio Valley as well as our abundant wildlife. We sometimes host speakers and educational workshops and guests are always welcome to participate in events.
Campers, trailers, RVs and Vans are welcome to stay in our lot but we currently do not have hookups available.

The Forbes Island off-grid event venue and campground are at Bradford Island in the Sacramento River Delta. The floating barge is moored next to our private ranch, utilized for tent and RV camping for larger groups. We limit rentals to single groups for ultimate privacy in a natural setting. You and your guests enjoy the remote Sacramento River Delta wetlands while being only a short drive from the Bay Area. Guests have direct access to water sports and private docks.
*Note: Forbes Island requires passage via the Bradford Island car ferry (see schedule below), a personal watercraft, or a captained passenger ferry boat that must be booked in advance. Boat dock space is included.
History:
Forbes Thor Kiddoo came to San Francisco in 1959 after a stint in the Coast Guard. A carpenter and engineer, he developed a business constructing houseboats in Sausalito. Then, inspired by Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo and the movie version of “20,000 Leagues Under The Sea”, Forbes Kiddoo built himself an underwater home, complete with portholes for watching the fish swim past, a diving hatch and a grand bedroom suite fit for a captain of his private world. In the ’90s, Forbes added a 40-foot lighthouse and a white picket fence.
Today, a small group of committed friends has preserved and kept Forbes Island afloat for community events, opening it for all to experience and enjoy. Your rental helps us to maintain this totally unique, fabulous find into the future.

Are day campers included in the total guest count, or does it only apply to overnight guests? All campers, whether they are staying overnight or not, must be included in the reservation.
Can additional guests be added after the initial booking? Yes, you can modify your trip to add more guests through the Hipcamp app, but you cannot exceed the maximum capacity.

We personally live here on 5 acres and have one acre dedicated to RV camping. Kirkwood ski resort is a 40 minute drive and South Lake Tahoe is 1.5 hours up 88. quiet dead-end road located on a cul-de-sac make for extremely peaceful parking and relaxing with near zero noise except for the occasional neighbors dog barking. our back yard hill butts up to back diamond regional mines park which is 50 square miles california state park that offers hiking and mine tours from California's coal mining and gold searching days. I recommend the mine tours especially on hot days. The mines are a nice place to escape the heat. tours are about $5 per person. here is a link to the mine tours website.

Boating is available on the San Joaquin River delta that is the headwaters of the San Francisco Bay. the marina and waterfront are about 3 Miles away by the way the crow flies and visible from the top of our backyard hillside.
Also downtown San Francisco can be accessed from the property via the Bart train that has two stations nearby. One is 6 miles away and another is 3 miles away. I bike/ train to San Francisco almost daily from this property.
EV parking or charging coud be accessed also. we have a nacs or tesla charger at two locations that are sloped down in grade. one slow charger (3 mph and one faster one about 13mph)

I had such a beautiful, restful stay at Ceci and Steve’s cabin on Sherman Island. I came for a solo writing retreat and left feeling deeply reset. The cabin is cozy, clean, and thoughtfully set up, and the clawfoot bathtub was an absolute dream after long, quiet days of resting and writing.
The land itself is really special. Waking up to birdsong, spending time birdwatching during the day, and then stepping outside at night to see a sky full of stars felt like a gift. Even with the winter wind rolling through, there was something grounding and powerful about being out there between the rivers, surrounded by open land and wildlife.
Ceci and Steve are wonderful hosts, and you can feel the care they put into the space and the animals around them. This is a perfect place if you’re looking for solitude, nature, and a true pause from city life. I’m so grateful for the time I spent here and would absolutely return.

Malaina was a super responsive, thoughtful and accommodating host! Absolutely a delight.
I've never slept in a more comfortable bed! The heater kept the space warm and cozy. The plush bathrobes and towels were a nice touch.
Just a shame we couldn't enjoy the property fully on our first day NYE (no fault of Malaina obviously). The heavy rain made it a pain to walk to the outhouse, use the kitchen area and sit by the fire pit. New Year's Day was perfect though and we welcomed the New Year with a nice, relaxing soak.
It is the perfect place to unwind, reflect, do minimal things (I did start to get a little stir crazy with the rain pounding on our roof). I'd recommend lots of reading materials, a lantern (one was provided) and more candles.

Weekend Trip to The Painted Lake
What an amazing place this is. We stayed in the newly built super view cabin and it absolutely was the most super view. We were there in cold weather and the cabin was so cozy and comfortable. The outdoor grill and fire pit were so great too. The animals were free range and it was magical seeing horses frolic by with their goat friends. Jeremy and his wife and son were so friendly and gave great suggestions on places to visit. By far some of the best hipcamp hosts we've had. We would give this 1000 stars if possible. In the wet weather you definitely should have a AWD or 4WD. My Mazda CX5 handled it like a champ. If you want to see the best sunrise surrounded by endless beauty, go here!

Steve and Ceci are such lovely and down to earth people! Staying at their place was really enchanting, the cabin feels like something out of Snow White-it’s simple but also very detailed and you can tell thought was put in the space. The clawfoot bathtub was wonderful, and despite the winter chill the place managed to stay warm. There’s a bookshelf full of books with California flora and fauna. Their dogs are funny and very active, and there’s maybe about. 60 chickens there? Both domestic and wild. Both the area in the back next to the cows and the highway besides the river were lovely to walk beside and explore.
Overall it was a wonderful way to get away from the hustle and hustle of things and relax and explore! Hope to be back soon 💕

Wow, what an amazing and beautiful weekend my girlfriends and I had at the Painted Lake Treehouse! The place is absolutely stunning! It was a mystical and magical wonderland with an amazing view of the lake. We woke up every morning to sounds of the roosters crowing and goats bleeting. We also had the pleasure of being there at the time where they had puppies on the property. They were so cute! The treehouse was warm and comfortable perfect for the three of us. The two petite girls stayed in the loft bed and I stayed on the futon couch down below. The heater kept us nice and toasty as we went there in December so it got brisk at night. There was was a camp kitchen, outdoor shower hut & portopotty just a just a short walk up the hill from the treehouse. There were dishes and cooking utensils provided as well as running water and a stove for cooking. Everything we needed. Our purpose for the weekend was to be surrounded by nature and to do a healing retreat weekend. We each booked a constellation therapy session with Michelle. Let me tell you she is absolutely magical. Such a compassionate and knowledgeable healer. It was truly transformative on so many levels. The animals participated as well. My favorite part was when the horses nuzzled my back during the final session. Our hosts Jeremy and Michele made sure that all of our needs were met and were extremely welcoming and excited to have us there. I would highly recommend this to anyone! Thanks M&J!! 💖 MAGIC!

Malaina was a great host, respected our privacy and wow both my boyfriend and I were significantly impressed with the hot tub. Cool area to explore, malaina recommended a hike that gave a beautiful view of Lake New Malones. The bed was a comfy and there was a gate we could close off our space with for optimal privacy/comfort for puppy off leash. Thanks for a great adventure!

Had a great time camping with family in the yurt. During the winter it takes a while to get it warmed up. The yurt isn't insulated so you have to maintain a good fire in the woodstove to keep it warm. Was able to get it to about 70°f . Holiday decorations and treats were provided, such a charming space!
The view is amazing the highlight of the trip was watching the sunset and the mist roll in down the valley and listening to coyotes and cows during the evening.
I wasn't expecting to take a shower since it was so cold outside but the instructions for it were easy enough and the water got plenty hot enough to shower outside in December. The outhouse is clean and pine fresh.
Checkout instructions were easy enough just take trash with you from the yurt turn off the water and lock up.
I would definitely visit again in the spring or fall!

We had a great time at the Angel's Hideaway yurt.
Commiunication with Audrey and Michael was A plus to get all the info we needed prior to our stay.
It was easy to get to and as described.
The property is lovely and felt very secluded.
The yurt itself is rustic but that's what we expected and we were prepared. That said there were plenty of amenities beyond just a roof over one's head.
Gotta love a yurt!
Much more fun/easy in cold and misty weather than tent camping.
The wood stove is amazing, the beds were comfy.
Would def return in the future!

Weekend Trip to Joyful Heart
Malaina’s space was magical and Malaina was a fantastic, attentive host. We arrived a bit late and Malaina had started a fire and heated up the cabin for our arrival. The hot tub was a fun touch, the instant hot water was great, and we loved the outdoor shower! Perfect spot for a romantic, private getaway with spectacular stargazing and waking up to the birds singing.

Weekend Trip to Delta Respite
I had a wonderful stay here. The silence, stars, multitude of birds (including Sandhill Cranes!), water, and joyful farm animals were restorative for my soul. The rustic and charming cabin was delightful with a window view of splendid sunsets, cool art and stylistic decor, an efficient heater, and a spacious bathtub. The hosts were gracious, responsive, welcoming, and thoughtful; they went above and beyond in making sure my stay went well.

What an amazing place to stay! We did a spontaneous honeymoon getaway trip right after our wedding (no plans just spontaneous decision making) so we decided on staying at the foxes getaway and it did not disappoint. The apple turnovers are to DIE for and the house was adorable. We did have our two little doxies with us and they loved being able to graze the yard. The cute little town of galt was nearby and we explored the area (great ice cream). Otherwise, it was a beautiful place to stay and the couple who lives there was welcoming as well as kind. I couldn’t have been happier with the decision. Tips for those who want to visit: fridge space is small so be considerate of that and it’s a tiny home so don’t bring too much luggage.
