Splitrock Farm and Retreat started in January 2021 after a global search of a place to set roots, live off the land, and create an amazing place for recreation, relaxation, and rejuvenation.
Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

Splitrock was part of a 160-acre avocado farm that prospered from 1970 to 2017, generating over 1million pounds of avocados per year until the previous owners switched off the water in 2017. Ben purchased 101 acres in 2021 with plans to harvest the dead avocado trees for firewood and replant with organic, sustainable crops such as grapes, citrus trees, and flowers.
Splitrock's attraction comes from its unique groves, magnificent granite boulders, and sweeping vistas. Mixed within the avocado groves are several ancient groves and solitary trees that include 150+ foot tall pines, hundreds of old oaks, and soaring palms. Freckled throughout the hillsides are thousands of humongous granite boulders, offering a prehistoric feel to the landscape. Above all, Splitrock offers unrivaled views. Over 40 miles of coastline includes views to Point Loma, the Carlsbad power station, and the Pendleton Hospital. To the northeast are views of near 11K foot snowy peaks of San Jacinto and San Gorgonio, with rolling hills of De Luz and Fallbrook in the foreground.

This property is so beautiful, the A-frame cabins are nested so nicely amongst lemon and avocado trees. We stayed in Squirrel cabin which was so lovely and one of the closest to the kitchen but still felt very private. The kitchen and bathrooms are very clean. Jacob was incredibly responsive and gave us an orientation to the kitchen. The wood-fire stove for pizza was GREAT and so easy to use. Felt like such a refreshing getaway, though not far from things. Definitely coming back!!

Another amazing stay! This was a return trip for us and we hope for many more. This site is so peaceful with the most stunning views, and has everything you need for a comfortable experience (actual clean toilet, sink, picnic table, fire pit.. etc.!) of course, the tent itself is so comfortable and spacious, too, with enough room for two adults and two dogs. the stargazing is also killer! can’t recommend enough!!

We had such a nice stay in the hilltop tent! While we didn’t use the kitchen all that much it was well stocked. We had fun making homemade pizza in the pizza oven and even used it to sear some filet mignon. We decided to bring our own camping gear and cook outside of the yurt to make it feel more like camping. The grounds were beautiful and it was great to take my dogs and let them run free and play with the host’s dog, Gerti. The outdoor shower was very spa like, warm, and inviting under the stars. It was close enough to home that we didn’t need to travel up the mountains to Camp and we got that same type of feel. The yurt was cozy and the bed and linens were clean and comfortable. We did hear coyotes at night, but that’s expected whenever you go camping. It just added to the experience and made it much more fun. All of the other reviews that talk about the loud power lines are not true. We did not hear anything from the powerlines. However, in the morning there were roosters that were a little bit loud as the property is in a residential area and there are other farm houses nearby. Nonetheless, I enjoyed hearing the roosters and all of the cows, horses and sheep from the neighboring properties. We brought some arts, crafts, games and sat down in one of the seating areas near the bathhouse to enjoy. Overall, it was a delightful experience and Jacob, the host, was incredibly responsive to our needs. We had a 10 out of 10 stay and will definitely come back. It was a great place to go and just relax.

Loved it! Unfortunately didn’t get the see the goats (no signal and it was too hot too walk around for long) ~ but we LOVED the views and sunset/sunrise views here! So much privacy for us to cook our meals and vibe ~ nice for little night hikes too. Site 3 was a bit of a walk to the porto potty so much sure to bring a headlamp.

Solo camped here for the first time, and it did NOT disappoint! 🥹 Everything was amazing, but my favorite part was definitely the farm animals and the farm guard doggies! I was lucky enough to see them once or twice a day during my 2.5-day stay, and they made the experience even more special.
I camped with my reactive dog, and keeping her leashed helped keep all the animals safe. Please, please don’t let your dogs off-leash! The farm dogs are absolute sweethearts, and it’s important to respect the animals and the property you’re temporarily staying on. ❤️
I stayed at Quail’s Nest, which is a private, spacious site with everything you need: a regular picnic table, a campfire spot by the rocks with a seat in front, and a parking area! It’s also right next to Sleeping Owl and Ravenrock, I believe.
The hosts were so kind, communicative, and hardworking. Please be respectful of your campsite and keep your area tidy! 😊
It reached a high of 86°F during my stay, but it was definitely manageable with a tarp or a tent with an awning. I made the rookie mistake of pointing my tent toward the sun (facing the entrance of the site), so I was practically baking inside. 😂 Lesson learned for next time!
There was plenty of room to walk my dog in appropriate areas, and she was knocked out by the end of each day. The shower, toilet, and water spout are conveniently located uphill from the site, near the oak trees. The shower was AMAZING — super clean, with different water pressure settings and actual hot water! The camp store is also near the entrance of the campsite, about a two-minute walk uphill. Totally worth the little walk, especially when the farm doggies decide to follow you! 🥹
Overall, 100/10 for the hosts, campsite, amenities, and especially the doggies! I absolutely fell in love with the farm dogs and can’t wait to come back with friends and family, hopefully within the next few weeks. This place has such a special charm, and I’m so happy my first solo camping experience here was such a good one. Until next time, Quail’s Nest!

Great place to camp. Enjoyed our time there - stayed at Peace Rock, still felt pretty secluded and private even though we had neighbors at the VW van site. More than enough space. Loved the goats roaming freely and stopping by our site. Animal encounter was also a hit for my family. Hosts were very responsive to questions, and had minimal interaction which was great. Would love to come back & check out the other camp sites.

Great spot! Easy to find with directions from the host, Josh. He was super cool and he replied quickly to all of our messages. Went with my best friend and it was perfect for us. There was firewood here but we couldn’t light the fire pit this time around because of weather conditions. No biggie but you should check beforehand if that’s something that matters to you. The tent has an outlet next to the bed and gets good wifi. You can see the stars well from this spot both inside and outside of the tent. They have a bathroom and a shower but bring soap or hand sanitizer. For sure would recommend. We’ll definitely come back, thanks Josh!

I booked this for the baby goat yoga but it was cancelled due to the rain. The host messaged me and offered a refund but I still thought the campground was worth it. It SO WAS! They still had the petting farm time from 3-6pm and it was so fun! Henry the pig was my favorite, with his snorts from belly rubs! I stayed at Ravenrock and it was a nice spot but I think I will book one of the more epic view spots next time. OR if I am with a group, the peaceful valley because the bathrooms were a lot closer of a walk than from Raven Rock. The host was super helpful and I already want to come back!
