Ramble welcomes you to our private campground - Ramble at Great Sand Dunes National Park! l 640 acres of rolling sand dunes nestled up against the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at 7,550 feet. This campground is just a 30 minute drive to the entrance of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, where you can hike dunes up to 750 feet tall. It's also at the base of Colorado's fourth tallest mountain, 14,345-foot Blanca Peak.
Ramble is a dog friendly campground so bring your furry friends. There is a pet leash hook for you to link up your dog at each site.
The Welcome Center will be the first place you'll stop, which includes an interactive photo opportunity, our park map, and informative and interesting information about the local community and surrounding region.
Just a short distance from every campsite is our bathhouse -- thoughtfully designed with private bathrooms, showers, and a pet rinse area. It also includes a QR-code-accessible mini store for easy purchases of firewood, toiletries and Ramble merchandise. Inside the bathrooms you’ll find flushing toilets, toilet paper, seat protectors, fold down changing tables, sinks, hand soap, hooks, mirrors, soft lighting, and locking doors. On the side of the bathhouse are our open air concept shower stalls complete with hot water, benches, towel hooks and complimentary body wash and shampoo.
The dump station is located just past the bathhouse and can accommodate disposal of sewage, waste water and includes a spigot for easy clean up. This station is complementary to Ramble guests.
All of our campsites are purposefully spread apart to give every group maximum privacy and spaciousness. Please refer to the campground map when making multi-site reservations and expect 100 to 250 feet walking distance between adjacent sites.
As far as activities go, there’s plenty to do. Rent a bike or bring your own -- we’ve got our very own three mile gravel path for you to shred that provides direct access points to local bike and Bureau of Land Management trails. There is also a 40 acre, 9-hole disc golf course perfect for all levels onsite. Horseshoe pits, corn hole tables, board games, and other activities are also available. And if that’s not enough, attractions in San Luis Valley, Great Sand Dunes National Park, Medano Creek, Zapata Falls, and Hooper Pool are all just a short drive away.
Ramble at Great Sand Dunes falls within the IDA International Dark Sky Park region, so be prepared to enjoy some ridiculously starry nights. If it gets too dark, our entire campground utilizes thoughtfully designed lighting that won’t detract from nature’s light show.
So bring the dog, kids, family and friends -- or enjoy the awesomeness solo. Welcome to camping the way you've always wanted it to be.
Ramble offers a unique camping experience with a blend of rustic charm and modern amenities. Campers appreciate the spacious, well-maintained sites that come with thoughtful touches like grills, fire pits, and comfortable seating. The location is praised for its beautiful views, and the staff gets high marks for being helpful and accommodating. However, the windy conditions and occasional encounters with kangaroo rats may require some preparation for those seeking a smoother stay.
Very nice campsites! They all have grills and fire pits along with a nice picnic table and chairs. The bathrooms were nice and there are clean portapottys close to the campsites that are further from the main bathroom.
Awesome location by the Great Sand Dunes with beautiful views and sunrises/sunsets! I had accidentally booked a walk in site and contacted host via Hipcamp ap and was able to quickly change sites. Camp host met me at the site to make sure I was all set and knew where everything was! Highly recommend and would definitely stay here again!
Beautiful and amazing.. not to mention all the accommodations..If you are a glamper this is your spot..if you are a traditional camper..THIS is still your spot.
Awesome camping spot. It felt rustic but had plenty of amenities to give a "glamping" vibe as well. The couple that was there when we stayed was Jeff and his wife, they were amazing. It was extremely windy when we got there and they helped us put up our tent and even gave us some extra tent suspensions to stabilize the tent in the wind. I would definitely camp here again!
Ramble is a really nice off grid campground close to great sand dunes national park. The hosts were super kind and made it a point to welcome us. We arrived late and really appreciated the lit walkways to the bathroom. The shared facilities (bathrooms, showers) were clean as well!
. Ramble is an innovative way to camp, in 360 degrees of astonishing natural beauty combined with thoughtful and quirky features: from sturdy wagons to transport your stuff to your well-designed site along a path marked out with solar lights, to a fun light show in the outhouse that actually has running water. . The camp host was super personable and helpful. The extra features at camp like the multi-use path and quality bath supplies in the outdoor showers were delightful surprises. The awesome Great Sand Dunes National park is about a half hour drive from Ramble. I definitely would stay at Rambles again
This is stunningly beautiful campground with great amenities. The campsites are very spread out. We had a lot of privacy at site 16 as well as a great view of the mountains. We had a lot of fun renting fat bikes and taking the trail around the campground.
Absolutely such an amazing campsite. Every detail has been very thought out for you to have a worry free experience. First- I love the space between the campsites, far away enough to still feel private. Second- the location of everything. Firewood was dropped off and available for purchase right at the end of our campsite. Then the bathrooms were very clean and had everything you could think of available for purchase (and all at reasonable prices) to have access to this is amazinggg- bc if I forgot anything, they had my backkk.
Definitely will be coming back and recommend having a stay here!
If you book here through HipCamp, it doesn’t read over to their system. So when we got there, someone else that booked through Rambles actual website had double booked our same site. Luckily they had an open site for us. It was a really cool campground, I would just recommend booking directly through Rambles website.
This campground is pretty incredible! It’s easy to see that the owners went the extra mile to make sure everything is super functional. The lighted pathways to the shower room/bathroom, the impressively clean portable toilet, and the helpful QR codes everywhere are an example. I for one loved the ease of a contactless check in and the way they operate using the honor system. My only tiny complaint was that we and our neighbors had a better view of one another than I would’ve preferred.
My family and I had a wonderful experience at Ramble! The site itself, the views surrounding us, the stars at night, and last but not least, the bathrooms and showers.. everything was perfect. The hosts we met were extremely nice and helpful. My next comment is more of a heads up rather than directed to the campsite, since it can't be helped. The gnats were brutal in the evenings we were there. The last night and even the next morning they were relentless. Our dog was constantly covered and we all went home with bites, almost like mosquitos but I don't recall seeing a single mosquito. The bug spray did nothing to deter them. Wouldn't stop me from coming back, but I would maybe research things to help keep them at bay before my next visit.
Spacious dispersed campsites with a shade shelter and an assortment of cooking options including grill and propane stove. Easily accessible and clean bathrooms throughout the campground. We loved renting the bikes and sand boards! We will be back for sure!
We had the BEST time. Ramble was one of our favorite camping experiences ever. The sites are spacious, well equipped, and thoughtfully laid out. Staff was super helpful and attentive. We ending up adding an extra night because we didn’t want to leave. We will absolutely be back!
The site was well manicured and had lovely amenities. The sites were mostly spread far apart, though maybe a little too far from bathrooms. The tent pad was level and large. My pup and I enjoyed lounging under the tent on the rug and chairs provided. The solar lights on pathways were helpful without ruining the gorgeous landscape. The port a potty was the cleanest I’ve ever been in.
All that being said, I did not spend the night at this campground. I was traveling by myself, a solo female, with my dog. Both of us got an uneasy feeling entering the, mostly empty, campground. While the ease of a contactless check-in was helpful it felt impersonal. The combination of this beautiful property being out in the middle of nowhere down bumpy country roads and the lack of humans around gave me an awful feeling. I set up my tent but once it got dark I felt like I was being watched and I did not feel safe. I drove into the next town and booked a hotel.
I think if there had been more other campers or had I been with a larger group so I felt safer my experience might have been better. It is a beautiful property and is set-up very well.
The campsite was perfect. I got this trip for my boyfriend's birthday. The last camping trio we had not here was all work for him. This time he really got to enjoy himself because Ramble made the whole trip super easy for him to do so. Thank you Ramble for such a memorable experience!
Perfect campsite. The location was great, and all the extra amenities were very nice. We will definitely be back and look forward to their new camping locations.
Ramble was a dream! Perfect location and absolutely loved that Great Sand Dunes was basically the backyard! It was super nice and convenient having showers and running water! The hiking/biking path was great and gave more views of the mountains and dunes! Would love to stay here again! 10/10!
Excellent private campground with top notch amenities that made it feel more of a “glamping” type experience vs rugged camping.
Super comfy setups. Each site has its own shade seating area with a table and chairs, along with a propane grill and stove, a wagon to move things from your car to site, solar powered lighting. Bathrooms were immaculately clean, showers and sinks were a great plus. Free fat tire bike rentals and a beautiful 2.5 mile trail with art and stunning mountain views. Sunsets were gorgeous. It was clear that everything was very thoughtful and intentionally set up - kudos to the campground owners.
Only downside, no fault of the campgrounds, was that at night there were lots of little mice and rodents that kept coming over when we were eating, which made us want to hurry up our dinner. The campground is about 25 mins from the Great Sand Dunes NP, you could see the dunes far in the distance from the site and was super easy to get to.
Overall we had a great time and would highly recommend
I loved all the amenities and that the sites were spaced out. The design of the campgrounds is very intentional and was well thought out. It’s a good location to see Great Sands and other local sites and hikes. I will definitely return.
We loved out experience at Ramble! Beautiful campsite that offered gorgeous sunset & sunrise. The burner, solo stove, shade tent and chairs & table were an excellent touch -- we enjoyed them all :) Would definitely venture back and recommend this site to others.
Cool spot! Beautiful views in every direction and plenty of space between sites. Site and facilities were excellently maintained. In a big open space meaning it was very windy/sunny, so be prepared.
Great stay with amazing views and amenities. Only a short drive to the national park. After spending a week camping in CO this was one of our favorite and most memorable campsites!
An extremely beautiful site with lots of little details and an extremely friendly and helpful host. The sky is just amazing during the night, such a great view of the Milky Way!
The only reason I would not go back with the large rented RV we had, is that the site can only be accessed through extremely rattly dirt roads.
But with a 4x4 I would go there anytime again.
