Mono Loco Flats sits on a mesa nestled in the Sangre de Cristo mountains near Sangre De Cristo creek and La Veta Pass. This Mesa is a perfect homebase to explore. Growing up in Southern Colorado I was fortunate to explore this zone as a kid and I feel so fortunate that I can share Mono Loco Flats with others. The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Zapata Falls are 25 minutes from Mono Loco Flats. Learn more about this land: Set up camp and enjoy sweeping views of Mount Blanca and the surrounding Sangre De Cristo mountain range. The 15 acre camp is situated just off highway 160 for easy access. Mono Loco Flats is an excellent home base for exploring the San Luis Valley, just 25 minutes from The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Zapata Falls. Sangre de Cristo Creek is a short hike or drive to the south. Fort Garland is a 5 minute drive. This Mesa provides 360 panoramic views with epic sunrise and sunset views of Mount Blanca. Wild horses and prong horned antelope may wander the Mesa as you enjoy your camp. The natural beauty of these three campsites are worth protecting so please if you pack it in, pack it out. This is a dry camp with no toilet or garbage facilities. Please treat this land with respect so that future campers may enjoy the land free of rubbish. All three campsites are accessible with any type of vehicle and the long driveway and turnaround can accommodate any trailer or RV up to 20'. So please come and enjoy the Sangre De Cristo mountains at Mono Loco Flats:) @monkeypuzzlespace = Mono Loco Flats on Instagram

Site 1 The Mesa
Star gazing and campfires
We tent camped in March and maybe we were insane for it but the views were spectacular. Mario was super helpful, we drove in from Texas and then over from Pagosa Springs and he was super informative when I asked for road conditions. We even got to see a comet explode when we were star gazing. 10/10 experience and we’ll definitely be back.

Site 1 The Mesa
Absolutely loved this camp! Right off the highway, but far enough that the noise was very minimal. We stayed in our camper van and the views were incredible. Perfect stop on your way to the Sand Dunes. Highly recommend!

Site 2 Arroyo
Beautiful and so very private!
We had a GREAT stay here. It is just absolutely gorgeous and you are alone in this stunning landscape. We have a 24 foot trailer and I think if you are comfortable backing up, we would recommend site 1 as it is the shortest site and you can do a loop in the big loop next to the site, then back in there no problem. Otherwise it is best for smaller rigs as the individual sites themselves could be challenging to do a loop in to turn around. Mario is an exceptional host and super great and fast at communicating with any questions or anything you need. Wish we had more time here to enjoy the sunsets.
