Base Camp Family Campground is owned and operated by the Baker Family. Josh Baker first lived in Southern Colorado in the early 90's as a child, but his family moved away after a short time. His desire to move back here as an adult prompted him to start bringing his own family to Colorado for vacations. They purchased land in the valley in 2014 and moved to Colorado in 2020. They are using all they've learned from years of RV adventures, to continue the park's mission of providing a clean, affordable, spacious, well-run camping facility, and to be a centrally located "base camp" and hub of information for everything this unique area has to offer.
You'll be camping in the shadows of 14,000 ft. mountain peaks, in the largest high-desert alpine valley in the world, that is sprinkled with free-flowing artesian wells, hot springs and wet lands. Daily summer temperatures average 65 degrees, and it will get down into the 50's at night. That's perfect camping weather!
For native American tribes, including the Utes, Apache, Navajos, and others, this valley is considered the source of life, a place where humans and spirit enter and leave this world. The valley was considered so sacred, that no war would be waged here.

The Rabbit Hole Ranch offers beautiful night skies with little to no light pollution and unobstructed views of the majestic Blanca Massif. The Great Sand Dunes and Zapata Falls is just a (gorgeous) 35 minute drive.
Camping here at the Rabbit Hole Ranch is primitive and dispersed (no numbered sites) and there 30 acres available for you to use. Just follow the signs to the designated area and pick out a spot you like.
Some spots have fire rings, some don’t. We are working on getting more, but in the meantime you’re welcome to bring your own. Or feel free to dig out a little hole. It works great and is easy to extinguish when you fill it back in and bury it. Please do not bury any trash.
Typically, you will experience a rare kind of solitude and silence that feels…. other-worldly, with incredible sunrises and sunsets filling the enormous skies.
On holidays, however, expect it to be busy.
Our only dog, Boudicca, is a working dog and she is more than happy to help keep you and your pets safe. Please help make her job easier by not leaving any food or trash in or around tents. Her name is Boudicca (BOO duh kuh) and she lost her two besties last year, so she needs extra love and treats!
Please keep your pets on leash or under control until you’re comfortably certain they get along with our dog. And please report any issues promptly.
Quiet time begins at 10:00 pm.
Note: Holidays still offer the excellent location and spectacular views, but are likely to be less quiet and far more busy. We typically do not strictly enforce quiet time during holidays.

Located on a large working cattle ranch . Serenity is guaranteed at the bunkhouse in an Aspen Grove near the paddock with fire pit. It's a lovely private setting, but not far from the main cabin and the river.
Shooters, you've found your spot. There are long and short gun ranges on the ranch.
The 3 campsites are private and located directly on the river, each with its own fire pit and free firewood. Miles of hiking trails without leaving the property, and the National Forest is located 2 miles up the road for further adventures.
Fly fishing for stocked rainbow trout on the premises! Seven separate reaches guarantee an exclusive expierience. Professional fishing guides are available by appointment. All inclusive fishing packages upon request.

Cute place, the cabin was great, the campgrounds are in a great spot. The little dog park was perfect for our dogs to run around in. Would deffinately reccomend this place!

Weekend Trip to Taos Goji Farm & Eco Lodge
The cabin was very comfortable and the farm was beautiful to explore. Loved reading the farm history in the Welcome materials in my cabin. Took many backlit pictures of wildflowers. For those arriving without 4wd, there is a mile+ dirt road leading to the property--take it slow and arrive during daylight. After my stay I learned there was a local swimming opportunity I wish I had known about. The young wwoofers on the farm were friendly and added to the experience. Thank you for offering this truly special place!

1 night at Creekside Glamping Tipis on Off-Grid, 70 Acre Working Ranch
What a magical, one-of-a-kind place. Staying in the tipi was an experience we’ll be talking about for a long time. It was cozy, comfortable, and surprisingly sturdy—we stayed perfectly dry through a monsoon storm!
The location is absolutely beautiful, but what truly made our stay special were Deb and Gil. They are incredibly generous, welcoming hosts who invited us to a barbecue with their friends. We spent the evening swapping travel stories and enjoying wonderful conversation, and it felt less like staying at a rental and more like visiting old friends.
We also had breakfast at Deb’s restaurant, Chile Line Depot, and it was fantastic—the perfect way to end our stay.
We can’t recommend this place highly enough. If you’re looking for something whimsical, memorable, and unlike anywhere else, this is it. 10/10—we’ll absolutely be back.

We are absolutely loved our stay! Deb was a fantastic host and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The kids loved every minute of total freedom. They loved the canoe and fishing in the lake. The star gazing was out of this world!!! The ranch is a slice of paradise and we were so sad to leave. We are already planning our return!

Debbie and Sally are welcome hosts. My 7 and 8 year old granddaughters will never forget this experience! Magical! Campfires! Storytelling! Outdoor cooking! Bountiful greenhouse! A teepee to sleep in and a composite potty! Haha. You won’t regret a trip here.

Truly special slice of heaven. We couldn’t believe how well stocked the tipis and campsites were. The host was friendly and gracious. The animals (horses, cows, muskrats, prairie dogs, magpies and a dog and cat) were charming. We can’t wait for a chance to return.

5 stars all the way! The cabin is quaint but we expected that, but it had all the needed amenities and the bed was very nice and not rock hard! The hot tub was hot! And the property itself is just gorgeous and relaxing. I loved the hammocks around the property and there is plenty of amenities that we needed inside the cabin. Was one of my favorite places I've stayed yet!!

Deb's place is amazing! We had an absolutely fantastic time. The Tipi was so comfortable for our family of 4 and 1 dog. We flew kites, taught our 5 year old to ride his bike, took a trip around the pond in the canoe, and even caught a fish! Our dog loved all of the room to run and swim. Beautiful area and the hosts were so kind and fun to chat with. They had everything you could possibly want and need. We can't wait to head back.

We loved our time at the ranch. The hosts were super friendly and quick to respond to any queries. Everything was exactly as described. Deb was super gracious and invited our teenage daughter to go wrangle some cows with them which she was super happy to participate in. The dog and cats were friendly and came to visit us. The tipi experience was great. We had a good view of the night sky and the Milky Way. The hosts even had a telescope for us to use. We also ate at the restaurant in town that Deb and Gil own and the food was really good. We would definitely stay there again.

Do yourself a favor and book a stay here! We only did two nights and wished we’d been able to stay longer. The property is so beautiful and Deb and Gil are great hosts. They made us feel like family! We were comfy and cozy in our tipi, even when it stormed during our first night. When the weather cleared, there was so much to do to enjoy this spot (fishing, canoeing, badminton, cornhole, etc.). The best glamping experience we’ve had and our favorite spot on our cross country road trip so far (by far)!
