I was lucky to be able explore this zone as a kid and I feel fortunate that I can share Mono Loco Flats with others.
Set up camp and enjoy sweeping views of Mount Blanca and the surrounding Sangre De Cristo mountain range. This 15 acre camp is situated just off highway 160 for easy access, approximately 25 minutes from The Great Sand Dunes National park and Zapata Falls. Mono Loco Flats is an excellent home base for exploring the San Luis Valley. Sangre de Cristo Creek is a short hike or drive to the south. Fort Garland is a 10-minute drive.
All three sites provide 360 panoramic views with epic sunrise and sunset views of Mount Blanca. Wild horses and prong horned antelope may wander the Mesa as you enjoy your camp. The natural beauty of these three campsites is worth protecting so please if you pack it in, pack it out. This is a dry camp with no toilet or garbage facilities. Please treat this land with respect so that future campers may enjoy the land free of rubbish. All three campsites are accessible with any type of vehicle, and the long driveway and turnaround can accommodate any trailer or RV up to 20'. So please come and enjoy the Sangre De Cristo mountains at Mono Loco Flats:)

Due to recent heavy rainfalls, we recommend using a 4WD or AWD vehicle to access Stephens Campsite. Hidden in the heart of Blanca, Colorado, the 25ft×60ft campsite is the perfect private sanctuary for those seeking an authentic wilderness experience.
Feel free to bring your RV/Camper and enjoy our spacious site. It serves as an ideal basecamp for 14er hiking adventures, only 20 mins from Lake Como Rd. Currently, it accommodates Campers/RVs and tents, operating as a "PACK IN PACK OUT large campsite." Parking is convenient, with space for one large RV/camper truck and two cars. While the road leading in might be a bit rough for about a quarter mile, it's manageable. We've personally cleared the main road for easier access.
Moreover, Smith Reservoir State Wildlife Area, offering great fishing, is just 15 mins away, with the town of Blanca and the main highway a mere 10 mins away. The Alamosa recreational center, providing hot showers and full gym access for $5 with a day pass, is approximately 30 mins from the campsite. The area boasts zero light pollution, making it perfect for stargazing with views stretching up to 100 miles. We're continuously improving the site, with plans for a custom fire pit, benches, and picnic tables, ensuring it remains a special place for all to enjoy.

1 night at Creekside Glamping Tipis on Off-Grid, 70 Acre Working Ranch
What a magical, one-of-a-kind place. Staying in the tipi was an experience we’ll be talking about for a long time. It was cozy, comfortable, and surprisingly sturdy—we stayed perfectly dry through a monsoon storm!
The location is absolutely beautiful, but what truly made our stay special were Deb and Gil. They are incredibly generous, welcoming hosts who invited us to a barbecue with their friends. We spent the evening swapping travel stories and enjoying wonderful conversation, and it felt less like staying at a rental and more like visiting old friends.
We also had breakfast at Deb’s restaurant, Chile Line Depot, and it was fantastic—the perfect way to end our stay.
We can’t recommend this place highly enough. If you’re looking for something whimsical, memorable, and unlike anywhere else, this is it. 10/10—we’ll absolutely be back.

We are absolutely loved our stay! Deb was a fantastic host and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The kids loved every minute of total freedom. They loved the canoe and fishing in the lake. The star gazing was out of this world!!! The ranch is a slice of paradise and we were so sad to leave. We are already planning our return!

Debbie and Sally are welcome hosts. My 7 and 8 year old granddaughters will never forget this experience! Magical! Campfires! Storytelling! Outdoor cooking! Bountiful greenhouse! A teepee to sleep in and a composite potty! Haha. You won’t regret a trip here.

We loved being so close to mountain bike trails that led right up to the Rio Grande Gorge, while having the RV hook up conveniences (electricity and water) that we really appreciate. We also had a great time swimming in the Rio G river at the John Dunn Bridge site. Kelly was wonderful about greeting us. It was a perfect short and sweet outing.

Weekend Trip to Taos Goji Farm & Eco Lodge

The property is all we needed for the time near Taos. It’s not wilderness, but there are views of the mountains and pasture land all around. Kelley and her husband live on the property.
It’s a 35 min. Drive up to Ski Valley from camp, and 20 min into Taos.

Truly special slice of heaven. We couldn’t believe how well stocked the tipis and campsites were. The host was friendly and gracious. The animals (horses, cows, muskrats, prairie dogs, magpies and a dog and cat) were charming. We can’t wait for a chance to return.

5 stars all the way! The cabin is quaint but we expected that, but it had all the needed amenities and the bed was very nice and not rock hard! The hot tub was hot! And the property itself is just gorgeous and relaxing. I loved the hammocks around the property and there is plenty of amenities that we needed inside the cabin. Was one of my favorite places I've stayed yet!!

The property is very peaceful. It’s close enough to town to venture in for dinner or sightseeing, but far enough away to relax comfortably in solitude. Don was very friendly and helpful with recommendations of things to do nearby. The grasses are a little high, but it was manageable with our exterior mat to help keep them controlled by the camper. Very great place if you have a dog. Our girl enjoyed running for balls and exploring.
