Want the camping experience but don’t have the extra time to hike into your site? Car Camping is the choice for you!  If you are passing through town on your road trip (we are located 3.5 miles off Highway 101 in the town of Laytonville), you can park your car and have the convenience of camping right next to your vehicle.  It’s an easy in and out and a relatively quiet overnight stay, so long as you don't mind the songs of the frogs in the creek.  Although no fires are allowed at the car camping sites, you can still enjoy the communal fire pit at the Camper's Kitchen (on weekends) and charcoal grills about 50 feet away. If you have the time, hike up to the Reservoir and take a dip! Porta potties and hot showers are available about 150 feet away. Currently reservation requests for this campsite are set for 2 campers. Each individual car camping site is able to host 4 campers max (with a maximum of 3 tents allowed per site).  When booking the site for more than 4 guests please edit your request to reflect accurate headcount information by booking additional car camping sites (can't find two sites adjacent to each other online? Don't worry, we will help you on site to park multiple car campsites together).   *Please note that Mill Pond is now Mill Creek. We will continue to keep the pond as a lush riparian basin this season in a cooperative effort with the Eel River Recovery Project to keep fresh water heading downstream and back to the Eel River. **A NOTE ABOUT CAR SIZES: Our car camping sites are limited to 12' length vehicles maximum. If your vehicle is longer, please let us know as there are separate spaces for parking larger RVs and trailers. Please note we do not offer RV hookups or water for these vehicle spaces, just longer spots for folks with a little more junk in the trunk! Cannonball Camp
99% (94)
Tent site · Sleeps 18
Cannonball Camp is a campsite right on the Holland Reservoir, with easy access to free kayaks & trails. Enjoy the sunrise and sunset with some of the best stargazing on the property. There is flat ground to pitch your tent on, a picnic table to enjoy meals at, some shade (we recommend bringing more) and gorgeous views all around. The proximity to the water is what people like the most about this site – you can step out of your tent in the morning and jump right in! This site is perfect for larger groups. We do not recommend this site for small children because you will be next to open water. All Mendocino Magic Campers Enjoy the Following Amenities - Central Camp with picnic tables, BBQ grills (propane provided), filtered water, and weekend fire pit. - Portapotty bathrooms with outdoor sinks. - Outdoor showers with hot water. - Access to Holland Reservoir, our private lake, for swimming, boating, and fishing. Kayaks are available at no charge. - Miles of hiking and biking trails through mountainous forests and scenic valleys. - Some of the best stargazing in Northern California with frequent meteor showers. - Camping supplies delivered to your camp site (for an additional charge), including cooler rentals, ice, and s’mores kits. Group Camp Site Details This site is packed flat dirt with limited shade. There is room for up to 8 tents. This site is next to a family-friendly swimming beach that is shared in the afternoon with other campers. This site can only be accessed by foot via a 1/2 mile hike, which is a 10-15 minute walk from the central camper's area. The hike is uphill on a dirt trail with about 150 feet elevation change. We'll shuttle your gear to the group site once when you check in and when you check out. If you have friends arriving at different times, you can add gear rides to your reservation for a small fee. Fire Ban There are no camp fires or charcoal grills allowed at Mendocino Magic due to wildfire danger. You may use a propane camp stove at your camp site or one of our gas grills at the Central Camp. We run a weekend fire pit for guests at the Central Camp so you can still get your s'mores on!

Abuelo Camp

Tent site · Sleeps 14
Abuelo Camp is a small group camp site located along the hike to the Reservoir with an huge old oak tree. You'll love being a 2 minute walk to the Reservoir for sunrise, sunset, and star gazing. Large families and small groups choose this camp site with space for 3 to 4 tents on flat grass. The site is located under a huge oak tree covered in Usnea hirta (also known as OId Man's Beard or Spanish Moss), a stringy type of lichen. We named this site Abuelo (which is Spanish for grandfather) after the two names for the plant. It features a picnic table and flat, grassy ground to pitch your tent on. We do recommend bringing your own shade. Loggers Camp
96% (14)
Tent site · Sleeps 38
Loggers Camp has plenty of space to spread out, making it one of our favorite group camp sites. The area is secluded and quiet, and because of the trees there is plenty of shade. It's a short hike to the reservoir for a swim, or some catch-and-release fishing (no fishing license needed!) At night you'll hear frogs, crickets, and your campmates' gasps as a shooting star streaks across the night sky. This camp site is down a primitive road, hidden from the main campground. You'll find flat grassy spaces for up to 20 tents under the trees. This is an extremely private camp site while still being easy to walk to. Roundtrip Gear Shuttle Included We'll shuttle your gear to the group site once when you check in and when you check out. If you have friends arriving at different times, you can add gear rides for a small fee. Group Camp Site Details You may drive to the access road to the site, unload your vehicle, and then park in the main lot. You will need to walk your camping gear about 50 feet, down a small hill. This site will not accommodate any cars, camper vans, or RVs. Additional car camping and RV spots are available nearby. Contact us and we'll place your group together based on your specific needs. Fire Ban There are no camp fires or charcoal grills allowed at Mendocino Magic due to wildfire danger. You may use a propane camp stove at your camp site or one of our gas grills at the Central Camp. For a quick 1 night stay as I was passing through, this was great. The car camping sites are very close together though. Luckily for me, no one was nearby. Unfortunately didn’t have time to check out more of the land, but maybe next time!

Found hipcamp gem!
I almost don’t want to share my review bc I want to keep this place a secret! It was a slice of paradise, so quiet with groomed trails and plenty of options for getting on the reservoir. Sawmill cabin was comfy, charming and perfect our needs. Mackenzie was super welcoming, we will bring more family back here soon.

Had a nice quiet night. One other camper here. They have a very nice little lake here with kayaks and canoes and honestly that makes this the reason to stay here. Grounds are well kept, host was super welcoming and nice and facilities were clean and nice. Recommend
