The Viking longhall has been 9 years in the making by a group of semi serious Viking enthusiasts: the result is a 60 foot long building that has 18, 8,x4' sleeping berths. Set apart from the main open area it also boasts 2 meeting rooms and a kitchen. The campsite is a very peaceful place. Some go as far as to say a healing place! We are proud of what we have achieved and now want people to come out and enjoy it also. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience, but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The area is awash in beauty and history from the ancient mound culture to the amish culture. The area has many hiking trails some of which are part of the buckeye trail and range in length from an easy 1 mile loop to rugged hikes of many miles. Come out and share the land that we have loved for the last 30 years PLEASE NOTE….WE WILL NO LONGER BE SUPPLYING BEDDING OR TOWELS.

Our campsite is 5 acres nestled in a small hollow of the Appalachian foothills in beautiful southwestern Ohio.Surrounded on 3 sides by a small creek is a small Viking/ fantasy village. The campsites are in secluded clearings each with space for a 4 person tent and its own fire ring.they are situated around the main field which contains our 60 foot longhall and large communal fire pit.within the longhall is a kitchen containing a 4 ring burner there is also a 5 burner gas grill if barbaqueing is your thing. Also on the site are other Viking/fantasy buildings,an 18 foot diameter yurt,a 16 foot Viking wedge tent,2 small lodges,a screened in bar and even a medieval war wagon. The recently completed shower house is a beautiful thing to behold,hot water and cedar lined The main area of the camp is ideal for just kicking back and watching the wildlife during the day and on clear nights the amazing star laden sky.there is plenty of space for lawn games including kube,cornhole and horseshoes. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway ( state route 32) for convenience but far enough not to be bothered by it.The area is steeped in Native American culture in fact the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away,with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance.Its also in the heart of the Amish community The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. Please be aware this is a rural area and as such you will encounter nature. We cannot be responsible for the woodland creatures you may encounter. Recently we have had people complaining because of flying squirrels, raccoons and even a wasp. We live in their environment and as such we must adapt. We are very proud and protective of the many different and varied creatures living on the 5 acres that make up the campground.

he whole field rental consists of the following.The longhall,the yurt,the cottage and plenty of room for tents on the 5 acre sites. The yurt sleeps 4 comfortably two twin mattresses can be added. The cottage sleeps 2. The longhall sleeps 27, 9 upper berths with twin mattresses and 9 ground floor with full.It also has a fully equipped kitchen with 4 burners an an outside barbecue grill. The field is surrounded on 3 of its side by a small creek the 4th.being a steep hill to the road.In all but early spring and mid October onwards it is surrounded by foliage, so is quite private.there is parking space for about 20 cars and a further 6 at the top of the hill. Outside the longhall is a large fire pit other pits a dispersed around the field. There is also a canopied outside dining area that seats 30 near the longhall and a small tiki bar located by the creek also an axe throwing area,outhouse and shower unit. All firewood and water is provided but heating,using propane fires in the longhall, yurt, and cottage is charged at cost.propane for cooking and shower use is included. A small quiet generator powers lights in the longhall during the day, which is candle lit during the evening hours.there are various solar lights around the field and the perimeter of the large fire pit is lit by tiki torches.

Please note the yurt has recently been upgraded. We have raised it on a 3’ platform and it now has wooden wall and windows. It has a semi transparent roof so the interior is very light. We have also installed a propane fire ring………photos will follow in the next week or so. For the camper that wants a little more comfort we present for your consideration our 18'-diameter yurt. It contains 2 twin beds, and a queen size memory foam mattress bed, it also boasts a wooden floor. Very romantic getaway, cozy family get together or just socialising with friends this could be just the site your looking for. PLEASE NOTE WE WILL NO LONGER BE PROVIDING BEDDING OR TOWELS. Sitting on the 5-acre Viking Longhall campground, the site contains some quite unusual unique buildings the yurt, a 16' Viking wedge tent, two small cottage buildings, a screened in bar, a medieval war wagon and the 60-foot Longhall all surrounded by a creek on three sides giving it a very private secluded feel. The area boasts many activities including hiking,canoeing,wildlife watching,star gazing,biking or touring the Adena cultural sites or shoping in the Amish stores. The yurt campsite is very spacious with its own fire ring and canopied dining area.cooking can be done on the fire or a 5 ring grill. pots, pans, eating utensils, plates, cups, towels, many candles, lamps. In fact, probably everything you will need.its as simple as packing your clothes, bedding,food and drink and heading out to your own fantasy camping experience we will even bring you coffee in the morning! Please be aware this is a rural area and as such you will encounter nature. We cannot be responsible for the woodland creatures you may encounter. Come out and unwind from the stress of your everyday life to this small, intimate cottage/cabin. Sitting only feet from a babbling creek, this is an ideal retreat for a couple. The cabin has  a full size memory foam mattress, wood floors. PLEASE NOTE WE WILL NO LONGER BE PROVIDING BEDDING OR TOWELS. This cabin is part of the Viking Longhall Campground, a 5 acre campground set in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The field is close enough to the Appalachian highway (state route 32) for convenience but far enough not to be bothered by it. The area is steeped in Native American culture. In fact, the world famous Serpent Mound is but 8 miles away, with many other Adena culture sites within easy driving distance. It's also in the heart of the Amish community. The area is known for its natural beauty with many hiking trails and canoeing opportunities. The cabin comes complete with everything you will need: pots, pans,  crockery, utensils, candles, lamps, coolers, a grill, water, firewood, benches, chairs, and towels. Just grab your clothes, food and beverages and head out here for some much needed R and R. Please be aware this is a rural area and as such you will encounter nature. Enjoy the unique experience of communal camping in a Viking Longhall. Situated on 5 acres surrounded on three sides by a picturesque creek this 60'x30' building contains 18 sleeping berths on 2 levels. This is probably one of the more unique listings you will find on Hipcamp. The Viking Longhall offers a one of a kind venue for a variety of group gatherings be it a wedding, a birthday celebration, a family re-union, a larping adventure, a gaming arena, an educational or crafting retreat, symphomium.....in fact anytime a group want a large communal gathering place. The hall features 18 8'x4' sleeping Berths , 9 berths on ground level each with a full mattress and 9 on the upper floor each with a twin mattress (4 reachable by stairs and 5 by ladder only). The upper floor has an 15'x8' meeting room with large table and bench seating for 12. Also on the upper floor a second communal area/ extra sleeping area again 15'x8'. The ground floor has a kitchen/ meal preparation area with all the kitchen utensils and supplies you may need. Cooking is done on a 4 ring burner, or outside grill, or fire pit. A large open communal area some 40'x15' with 10 tables and bench type seating for up to 40. There is also a breezeway area approximately 16'x10' leading to the large double doors. There is a wrap around porch attached to the building.The campsite itself is 5 acres surrounded on 3 sides by wood covered cliffs. It is in one of the many hollows and has a very private secluded feel. The grounds contains number of other features......a large communal fire ring with ample bench seating, ideal for dancing and drumming. A small tiki bar (screened) next to the creek. There is also a large canopied dining area 30'x 8' with seating for about 40 and a small screen house for morning coffee etc. A shower house with on demand hot water, and an outhouse. The surrounding area is seeped in Native American culture with the world famous Serpent Mound being only 7 miles away and fort hill within short driving distance.Adams county contains 22 hiking trails, maps and guides for which we can supply. The area is also close to a 6 mile wide meteor impact crater so it is of interest to geologists.The night sky can be quite amazing with little light pollution.There are quite a few varieties of birds and plants and deer can quite often be seen grazing from the viewing platform that looks out across nearby fields. Although there is no electricity supply to the campground a 2000 watt quite generator is available which is enough to power lights and small electronics. Speaking of which there is almost no cell phone reception and no wi-fi, some find this a blessing and some an inconvenience, although a short walk will get your phone connected.Further images of the campground and its amenities can be seen from our other listings, yurt at Viking longhall, creek side cottage and tent camp at Viking Longhall. A variety of decorations and lighting are available at an extra charge. PLEASE NOTE…..During the winter months ( November to the end of March) we apply a surcharge for heating. This is based at cost and the amount used. The charge normally runs about $50 per one night stay. Please be informed that you will have to supply your own bedding. We can now offer the use of a DVD player and projection system, just bring your own blue ray or dvd discs and enjoy movie evenings with your friends.

We had an amazing time staying at David's hand-built yurt! David is a wonderful host, making sure we had what we needed and providing helpful info while giving us our space. There's plenty to do, from axe throwing to board games to great hiking trails nearby.

We enjoyed our stay at The Viking Longhall. The setting is peaceful and the grounds are well cared for. The communal kitchen and fire-pit area were nice touches. The host was friendly and helpful.

The Yurt at Viking Longhall
We had an incredible time at the yurt! David was an amazing host: he greeted us and shared all kinds of local information and tips on hikes and activities and brought us coffee in the mornings. He has built a magical place and put so much passion, care and attention into everything there. The nature and activities on the property can fill days. We loved the yurt Viking decor, propane fire in the middle and the incredible layers of soft bedding! We will be coming back for sure.

The Viking Longhall
I have wanted to stay at the Longhall since my visit to the Yurt several years ago and finally got my wish! My friends and I stayed at the Longhall for my 30th birthday and it was one of the most memorable birthdays I have ever had. Not only is the space remarkable, David was such a kind and generous host and made sure we had everything we needed. I hope to be back again soon— it is one of my favorite places to go for a getaway from the day to day. If you need a place to find some peace and quiet and enjoy the beauty of nature, please consider this hidden gem.

The whole Viking Longhall property is like stepping into a cute, quirky woodsy fantasy. The unique building design and landscape layout are all charming. The Creekside Cottage was simple, cozy, and well provisioned. David is an excellent host, available and very considerate. I would stay again.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Our Tribe, Tyr’s Pride Raven Banner, recently held our Winter Nights gathering at the Longhouse in Peebles, Ohio, and it was absolutely incredible. The Longhouse itself is beautiful—you can feel the craftsmanship, care, and spirit that went into creating such a special place. The setting is peaceful and inspiring, surrounded by nature and perfect for both reflection and community. David, the owner, was an outstanding host. His hospitality was unmatched—welcoming, kind, and genuinely invested in making sure our stay was memorable. He went above and beyond for us in every way. We stayed for four days and every moment was meaningful. We shared good food, laughter, stories, and ceremony in a space that felt like it was made for such gatherings. If you’re looking for a place with heart, history, and true hospitality, the Longhouse is it. The Yurt at Viking Longhall
David was a fun and gracious host! We’ll 100% be back! He brought a pot of coffee each morning and a new propane tank to help heat the yurt, told us about the history of the area and places to check out nearby, and was fun and engaging to talk with. My daughters and I had a very fun, safe, and memorable trip and look forward to returning again sometime soon.

We absolutely loved this campground! David was an amazing host. Very friendly and happy people. We had the most relaxing weekend. Located 8 miles south east of Serpent mound and 3 miles from a really sweet area to hike and see a tone of Dolomite formations.

Host was so kind, checked in to make sure we had everything we needed in the evening and again in the morning. Met us when we got there to make sure we knew where everything was. The site was so beautiful and peaceful and so many cute little cats. The cabin had everything that we needed. Was a perfect trip!

Creekside Cottage
We had such a a great time. The camping area was amazing. Plenty of space for tents and all the cottages and cabins where each different themes and a few to choose from. Most camp sites are a few steps from the creek which is a bonus. David was such a great host, he was cutting firewood for us when we arrived. He made sure there was no want for anything. they best part for us was the beautiful night sky. We spent so much time just staring at all the stars and enjoying the night that our necks hurt. We are looking forward to going back and bringing our friends with us.

Another excellent weekend experience with old and new friends at The Viking Longhall! David Summers is a consummate host! This our third time enjoying the amazing glamping site and it never disappoints! It is seen a new every time with new discoveries and experiences. We absolute adore this nature retreat and all it offers. Thankful for David & his partner's creative vision and efforts!

We tent camped on this beautiful creekside, viking-themed respite and were quite comfortable even within rain and heat. There are plenty of trees for shade and dipping our feet in the creek to cool off was a delight. David, our host, was warm, welcoming, gracious and friendly. We stayed there while visiting Serpent Mound which is very close-by. We cannot wait to return. We truly felt so refreshed. There's something magical about hearing that creek at night.

Highly recommend if you’re looking for a magical place to reconnect with nature but still sleep in a bed. The creekside cabin was very clean and cozy! David and Ivea were incredibly kind and accommodating. The place is clean, artistically beautiful, and honestly just felt magical.

Fantastic asthetics. Beautifully done and maintained. Hosts were very hospitable and knowledgable of the area. The yurt was very comfy and inviting. First time in a yurt and it was a blast. Hosts went above and beyond by providing a battery unit for my CPAP machine.

Amazing spot! David was super nice and hosts a very fun complex. A real treat and one of my favorite stays yet. He also recommended Quiver Heart Trail nearby which was a beautiful hike.

Second stay and would still 100% recommend David’s place! So grateful for the nature, birds, stars, love, fun and beauty! There’s nothing better than hearing a babbling brook, bird songs and a crackling fire all at once :) perfect hosts all around!

We had a fantastic time staying in the Creekside cottage. Falling asleep to the sound of the creek next to us was extremely peaceful, and the cottage was very thoughtfully decorated and equipped! There was a grill available, though we had fun cooking over the open fire. David was a friendly and attentive host, and we really enjoyed hearing about the history of the property! We can’t wait to return!

Expect a sense of community, friendship and peace in this unique site. The excellent kitchen was a pleasant surprise to find and very helpful. Each site comes with a firepit if you'd prefer that. It was perfect for a weekend of local tourism and unplugged relaxation by a shady creek. Your hosts are helpful and wonderful people.

The amenities, the land, and the host are nothing short of amazing. We wanted for absolutely nothing on our stay and our children had the best time and loved David. None of us were ready to leave- but we will certainly be returning.

Tent Camp at Viking Longhall
We absolutely loved our tent camping experience here! This spot is truly gorgeous, and even with other campers around, we enjoyed incredible privacy, peace, and quiet. There's so much to explore both on-site and nearby, but our favorite moments were napping in the hammock and drifting off to the soothing sound of the nearby creek. My only "complaint" is that it was so peaceful, I barely made a dent in my book because I kept falling asleep! David is an exceptional host, and we felt right at home. The thoughtful touches of coffee and firewood were amazing. We're so grateful they chose to share this beautiful land with us. Thank you for a truly wonderful stay!

The Viking Longhall
Another excellent stay at the longhall! There was some rain throughout the weekend, and the longhall was dry and comfortable through the rain and storms. When the rain broke and the sun came out we were able to fully enjoy the natural beauty of the property. This weekend was a fun and relaxing break from everything. We are looking forward to visiting again!
