Complimentary WIFI available as well!! Pets are allowed, we ask that you keep them off of the road, do not allow them to roam free, please pick up after them. THERE ARE NO TOILETS, SHOWERS, LAUNDRY FACILITIES ***Extra Guest Fee Explanation*** 1 Guest = 1 camper trailer or up to 2 tents, 2 Guests = 2 campers or tents, etc Self service check-in and check-out The Lot is 20 feet wide by 50 feet long, so plenty of space to pull up and back in or pull straight in. NOT A PULL THROUGH. Close to hiking, fishing, camping, boating and only a 40 minute drive from Colorado Springs with shopping, dining and tourist attractions like Garden of the Gods, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, and Cave of the Winds to name a few. Local attractions include 11 mile canyon, Mueller State Park, Fossil Beds, etc. 1 notable "house" rule: SMOKING AND OPEN FLAME POLICY No smoking of any kind anywhere on the property. Smoking at the end of the driveway is also unacceptable. No open flames of any kind in the space or on the property. Fire danger is great in our dry climate. This is mountain living so take care when on the property. Lots of uneven ground around the property. The views are spectacular but with that comes the risk of a windy day once in a while too. COLORADO WINTER TRAVEL: There is a possibility of snowy roads anytime from September through March. It's such fickle weather. One day can be sunny and 50 degrees and the next day a 6-inch snowfall. Generally, the roads clear up within a day or two of a snowfall so the impact isn't too troublesome. If you rent our place in this time frame, good all season tires are advisable. Our driveway is fairly flat and the county road to the house is plowed often. If there is a snowfall during your stay, we will have the driveway plowed out if we get more than 4 inches of snow and after the snow has stopped falling. If a snowfall lasts more than a single day, we may have it plowed out each day of a snowfall if more than 4 inches accumulate. Use caution during any snowfall as ground can become unexpectedly slippery. Message us if you have any issues.

The best campsites in Mueller State Park, CO guide

Overview

About

Set among 5,100 acres of forest and meadows, this state park offers tons of recreation opportunities throughout the year. Activities include hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding on the 44-mile long tail system in the summer and cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. There are also a number of stocked ponds in the park as well as a visitor center offering interpretive exhibits. Camping options abound at the park, with a variety of loops offering everything from quiet walk-in sites for tent campers to RV sites with electric hook-ups. The park also has three cabins for those who would prefer a few more creature comforts.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for hikers: the northernmost loop at the park, Grouse Mountain offers direct access to the Grouse Mountain Trailhead.
  • Best for RV camping: Revenuers Ridge offers electrical hook-up sites and easy access to the seasonal comfort station.
  • Best for quiet time: Turkey Meadows offers quiet walk-in sites among the trees

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. You can reserve cabins and campsites through the Colorado Parks and Wildlife online reservation system or over the phone.
  2. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance. Same-day reservations are also available, online or over the phone.
  3. Only a handful of campsites are available during the winter season, which normally starts in October and runs through April.
  4. If you are having trouble securing a site for your preferred dates, your best bet is to look into RV parks, Hipcamps, and private campgrounds.

When to go

Camping season at Mueller State Park is between May and September, although there are generally a few sites available for winter camping during the off season. The park is at its most busy during July and August (though these months also get the most rainfall). Special educational programs also take place in the summer months at the park’s amphitheater. Temperatures start to dip in late September and sub-freezing temperatures are the norm from December through February.

Know before you go

  • The nearest town to pick up supplies is Midland, about a 10-minute drive south of the park.
  • Campsites 12 and 22 are ADA accessible, as is the Ponderosa Cabin.
  • There are a lot of opportunistic black bears in the park, and it's not unusual to spot the creatures in spring through fall. Food must be secured in hard-sided vehicles and campers are advised not to sleep in the same clothes that they cook in.
  • Camper service buildings are closed during the winter season, which usually starts in early October and runs through April.
