Sparrow Lake Camp is situated on the southernmost tip of the majestic Canadian Shield.  The site is known to have been a campground for bands of the Huron people prior to the European intrusion.  It is considered probable that Samuel de Champlain, the first European to explore Huronia, spent a night on this site in the 17th Century.In 1892, what would become the west side of the current property was sold by pioneer Captain Thomas Stanton to Toronto's renowned Massey family to act as their summer resort.  The resort sported the main lodge, dining room, and cottages and was only accessible by train and steamer. From the onset, the Masseys used the site as a summer retreat for the Young Men's Bible League of the Central Methodist Church. Today, the property is a thriving summer camp that also offers overnight tent stays with stunning lake views.

The cabin pictured is in the middle of a private 5-acre property across from Turtle Lake and spans turtle lake road, to Donnelly and Poke Road, so it’s easily defined by the roads around the land. There is no direct access to the lake, but there are many lakes and beaches within a short drive. There are also many quaint towns to visit, beautiful hiking trails to explore all nearby. The main floor has a pull-out double bed, and the loft has 2 sets of bunk beds, ideal for kids. The bathroom facility is a newly built very airy eco-outhouse - you will be pleasantly surprised! We are a small hobby farm set within a mature forest setting. There are two, newly built tiny home bunkies that are situated in private areas of our property, yet close enough to our main house for security, Each bunkie has a modern outhouse with composting toilets and non potable water for washing Guests will have the opportunity to commune with nature as we have a multitude of bird species and there is always good possibilities of wildlife viewing, as guests stroll down the nature trails. There are plenty of very cool areas along the trail where guests are able to participate in forest bathing/meditation or can just relax and listen to the wind rustling through the leaves of the trees. We have a couple of very gentle horses on our farm, that if anyone wishes, can schedule a time meet them and do some therapy grooming. There is also a small flock of egg laying hens that are quite social. We have a small on site store, which has some beautiful wood crafts that are created in our woodworking shop. Live-edge wood tables/charcuterie boards and other beautiful pieces as well as a large display of gorgeous healing crystals and metaphysical items are available for purchase if that's your interest. We are less than a 10 minute drive to Bobcaygeon, where you can find the world famous Kawartha Dairy, scrumptious restaurants, specialty clothing boutiques, grocery stores and pharmacies. Sturgeon Lake is the predominate lake with fabulous fishing/boating/ swimming. A 20 minute drive will get you to Fenelon Falls, Buckhorn or Kinmount where you will find the famous Kinmount Movie Theater that have the latest movies available. The Canadian Rail Trail is also nearby for anyone that wants to do some biking/hiking.

This was our second time camping here, and it definitely won’t be our last. The campsite was clean and well maintained, and we were lucky enough to have a site right by the water, which made the whole experience even better. Lisa, the owner, was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and you can tell she genuinely cares about her guests having a great stay. We had another fantastic camping trip with our group of five and are already looking forward to coming back. Highly recommend!

This was one of the best places I have stayed at. Beautiful piece of property; they have everything you could need (except I would recommend bringing a hatchet/axe if you plan on having a fire), and it was nice to disconnect. It was incredibly private, quiet, and relaxing. We got to see a couple of loons, a moose and Benny the beaver popped up! Buggy, but that is to be expected out in the woods. Will definitely be back in the future!!

This was our 2nd time at this gem. We stayed at site#4 this time and it was very spacious. All day sun and great access to the lake. I cooked all our meals over the large fire pit. The wood that we ordered was very seasoned and burned great. Spent a lot of time on the lake with our fishing kayaks and caught many pike. There are no cottages on this part of Vernon Lake so it was very peaceful. The lake is clean and great for swimming which we did quite often. Thanks again for sharing this gem with us again. We went out on a limb for a spontaneous fishing trip and came across this cabin as it was a reasonable price and close to the fishing spots we were wanting to go to. Upon arrival we were greeted by Arnold who took us on a tour of his oasis pointing out Cardinals nests telling us the story behind how they came to be as we were walking down the path to the cabin. As our humbled host showed us the cabin we were in awe with how beautiful it was and with how much was supplied to us for our stay to be easy and relaxing. The stay there was peaceful and private. We couldn't ask for anything more, as every time you looked around we were surrounded by beauty and continued to see more and more detail and beauty within the property. Including there animals who we were so lucky to meet. And Arnold's shop with handmade craftsmanship. It is well worth taking the time to see the craftsmanship. We loved our stay with Angela and Arnold so much that we booked again within 5 minutes of heading home. Our hosts were the main reason in our quick decision to return within weeks. They are the most wonderful people.

Weekend Trip to Simple Pleasures

Sheila has a beautiful spot surrounded by lush gardens and a gorgeous river view. Though we were there on a really stormy night, we did not get wet because the tent platform had great drainage. Luckily the clouds parted for us to have dinner on the dock. The walk down to the site was a little longer than expected - but fine if you have good mobility! The outhouse was clean and dry and not too far from the tent area. We enjoyed our stay, Sheila was a lovely and inviting host, it was private and beautiful *bring bug spray!

AMAZING. The only word that can be used. The privacy of Site 1, including having a private beach - the quietness, the seclusion - amazing. For our family, the ability for the dogs to run around was such an added bonus! Lisa & her husband set the bar high for hosts everywhere. 3 nights at Spirit Ridge Acres

We had a great time at Angie and Arnold's cabin. It's a cute, quiet place with the sound of birds. It has some basic things for cooking, but I recommend bringing your own. Angie and Arnold are very welcoming. We met the horses, dog, and Scottish bull. The firepit was nice for stargazing. They brought some fresh eggs from their farm.

The location was clear, wide open but felt very private at the same time. Such a beautiful and peaceful spot. The night sky was also really amazing. Lisa was very responsive and available. It was nice to have a private beach. Also that it was dog friendly and ok to have her off leash. I wish we would have brought our paddle boards! Definitely the 4 x 4 vehicle made our lives easier with the hilly terrain.
