Tucked away in the heart of Carling Township, this private 44-acre property offers a peaceful wilderness retreat surrounded by forest, open meadows, exposed Canadian Shield rock and a secluded 10-acre inland lake.
One of the property’s most memorable features is the broad meadow below the hill. It faces the neighbouring W-Ranch and offers sweeping views across the fields and surrounding countryside. Horses and ranch activity can sometimes be seen in the distance, giving the landscape the peaceful character of the European countryside.

A Convenient Base for Exploring

Use of the township boat launch is free for Carling Township residents. Other visitors should confirm any applicable fees and current township rules.
The Property
Our 44 acres include a remarkable variety of natural landscapes, each with its own character:

From the elevated Canadian Shield rock and the meadow below, guests can enjoy an unusual combination of rugged Northern Ontario wilderness and peaceful ranch scenery. The open fields, distant horses and changing evening light create an atmosphere reminiscent of the European countryside.
W-Ranch is privately owned neighbouring property and is not part of the campground. Guests are asked to respect the property boundary and enjoy the ranch views from our land.
Beyond our property boundary are approximately 200 acres of adjoining Crown land, offering additional opportunities for hiking and backcountry exploration. Guests are responsible for following all applicable Crown land regulations and respecting the natural environment.
Camping Areas and Privacy
The campground is divided into three distinct camping areas:
• Meadow
• Lakeside
• Shield
Each area contains between one and three individual campsites. Depending on current bookings, several groups may be staying on the property at the same time. The campsites are thoughtfully spaced to provide guests with comfortable personal space and a good degree of privacy.
However, booking an individual campsite does not include exclusive use of the entire 44-acre property or the lake. The lake, forest trails, Crown land access routes and certain common outdoor areas may be shared with other registered campground guests.
Because the property is large and the three camping areas each have their own landscape and atmosphere, guests can normally enjoy a peaceful, spacious and uncrowded outdoor experience even when other groups are staying on the property.
Guests who would like exclusive use of the entire campground for their family or group are welcome to contact the host before booking. Depending on availability, group size and specific requirements, dates and pricing for a private campground booking can be arranged separately.
The Lake
A secluded 10-acre inland lake borders the property and is especially beautiful during the spring and fall. There is no public road or public boat launch directly on the lake, so the setting is normally quiet and undisturbed.
Although the lake cannot be reached by a public road or public boat launch, other registered campground guests may also use it. Unless exclusive use of the entire campground has been arranged in advance, the lake is not reserved for any one individual campsite or group.
Lake conditions change naturally with the seasons. During the warmest part of summer—most commonly in July and August—floating aquatic vegetation and duckweed may accumulate along the shoreline closest to the campground. When this occurs, the immediate campground shoreline is not suitable for swimming or launching a boat.
Clearer, more open water can generally be found approximately 150 metres farther along the shoreline. Guests whose main priority is swimming, paddling or boating should plan to use nearby Killbear Provincial Park or Georgian Bay, where excellent public water-access options are available.
A 12-foot aluminum boat with a four-stroke motor may be available to rent when lake conditions permit. The rental fee is $60 per day, including fuel. Please confirm availability and lake conditions before booking the boat.

Access, Shared Areas and Respect for the Land
The lake is bordered by our private property and adjoining Crown land, with no public road or public boat launch directly on the water. The area is secluded and normally very quiet.
However, Crown land remains publicly accessible, and several groups may be staying at the campground at the same time. Complete exclusivity of the lake, trails or property therefore cannot be guaranteed unless private use of the entire campground has been arranged with the host in advance.
Please treat the lake, forest and surrounding landscape with care, follow Leave No Trace principles and leave the property as you found it.

There are two cabins now on the property, but one is brand new and private and not accessible- it will be vacant for your stay. There is also a private sauna, but is also not accessible.
The cabin pictured is in the middle of a private 5-acre property across from Turtle Lake and spans turtle lake road, to Donnelly and Poke Road, so it’s easily defined by the roads around the land. There is no direct access to the lake, but there are many lakes and beaches within a short drive. There are also many quaint towns to visit, beautiful hiking trails to explore all nearby.
The main floor has a pull-out double bed, and the loft has 2 sets of bunk beds, ideal for kids. The bathroom facility is a newly built very airy eco-outhouse - you will be pleasantly surprised! There is a sink to wash up, and an outdoor shower, but for now, only cold water is available.
This an ideal family getaway or a romantic getaway, I look forward to hosting you!

Cranberry Camp is located 7 kms past the village of Pointe au Baril. It’s surrounded by Ontario native forest (the “bush”) and wetlands in the hinterlands of Georgian Bay. We love to share this beautiful part of the world with visitors!
We are 3kms from Sturgeon bay Provincial Park (a nice beach!) and 3kms from the Bayfield Inlet public launch on Georgian Bay (visit the iconic pink rocks and windswept trees of Georgian Bay). We came to this area because of the fresh air and clean water.
Visitors to the area should be aware that you cannot see any of the Georgian Bay coastline from the highway or roads. We highly recommend you get out on the water in a boat of some kind (there is water access near here for canoes, kayaks and other boats). We also recommend that visitors go to the French River Provincial Park to understand the unique history and culture of the area. That park is 35-40 min north from here and has a lovely small museum/interpretive centre and a footbridge over the French River.
This secondary highway (ON 529) is fairly quiet and decent for cycling. It's very quiet north of the ON 529A turn-off!
Cranberry Camp also has a small house, a guest lodge for retreats (we host healthy living and healthy building workshops), 2 lovely and private recreational vehicles (a 24’ Jayco and a 27’ Cougar) as well as a tiny home. All spaces are scent-free, low VOC and no WiFi. We help people create healthy homes and buildings.
Hipcamp sites are accessed from hard-packed dirt/gravel driveway either perpendicular or parallel to the road. An outhouse contains a composting toilet (using the Humanure system), a solar light and jug of water for handwashing.
We love to host people getting away from the city or taking exploratory road trips.

Come and camp on beautiful Eagle Lake with approximately 120' frontage facing North. The campsites are only steps away from the water’s edge where you can enjoy stunning sunsets. Swimming, fishing and a playground are just across the road. The sites have a raised fire pit to cook your meals and a picnic table for enjoying them. We can provide firewood for $12 a bag, just ask!
These medium sites can accommodate two tents or a small camper with a total of four people. There is a shared outhouse, with flush toilets at the park across the road. Each site has water and electricity, and you can also find a WIFI signal nearby.
Eagle Lake Narrows Country Store is on the same three acre property. There you can rent boat, canoe, kayak, SUP and bicycles. Welcome to Cedar Creek Forest Camping! Voted second best campsite in Canada in 2021 and ranked number 2 in Ontario in 2022.
I have 97 acres of very private camping. The forest is a bird watcher’s and nature lover’s paradise. I have developed miles of flat groomed trails and a 3-acre pond (plus several bush ponds). The sites are spread around the pond and are close but not right beside it. There is an abundant amount of wildlife to explore: birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects and mammals call this home. There is a small swimming hole on the island but otherwise the pond is full of aquatic life.
The sites and trails are maintained all year long and the forest is quiet and beautiful. I have planted over 3000 trees with the help of the Severn Sound Environmental Association. The forest is registered as a managed woodlot with the province and habitat preservation/restoration is the priority goal. Please DO NOT bring firewood for your visit. I have large bags of cured firewood that was sustainable harvested from the forest available. Invasive insects and disease can be transferred from imported wood.
Guests are welcome to quietly explore the forest trails but are asked to stay on the trail. Many birds and animals nest in the forest.
My campsite is family-friendly (and pet-friendly), and 420 friendly too. Guests can easily drive up to and park at all campsites. My camp site is tolerant and respectful of all humans, animals and things.
The Yurtle structures were built from Hemlock trees that were cut from this forest and processed into boards, then engineered into unique camping huts. Large windows capture the glory of the surrounding forest and sun sets, while wood stoves warm campers on those cold days/nights.
Guests are asked to remove excessive garbage and recycling when possible.

We have 4.4 acres of land on a spring fed lake. (Even though it is spring fed the water is warm for swimming.) We are located between Trout Creek and Port Loring on Hwy 522. We have 3 vintage trailers, each with a slightly different experience.
Enjoy kayaking, canoeing, swimming and fishing. We also have a 4 person paddle boat. Bring water shoes if you have them. The water edge is in it's natural state.
The trailers come fully equipped. You need only bring food, bedding and 1 pound propane tanks to use the small barbeque.
Our property is off the electric grid. The trailers have fridges and stoves powered by propane and the lights are powered by battery recharged with solar panels. We do not at this time have running water and the toilets are clean outhouses - not stinky and disgusting.
We have a couple of small docks and you can fish right from the dock. If you are a bird lover you will enjoy watching the blue heron and hearing the loons and frogs sing at night.
This property often experiences spectacular sun sets.

Our remote off grid property in the forest east of Eagle Lake is a great place to disconnect and decompress. The roadside Bunkie sleeps 2 comfortably and can accommodate a RV trailer or tent as well. Pets are welcome.
The property has a pit toilet, and campfires are allowed in the designated pit. There is also potable water in the bin with an outdoor kitchen and BBQ area. In the winter water would have to be stored inside. Linen not provided.

It is considered probable that Samuel de Champlain, the first European to explore Huronia, spent a night on this site in the 17th Century.In 1892, what would become the west side of the current property was sold by pioneer Captain Thomas Stanton to Toronto's renowned Massey family to act as their summer resort. The resort sported the main lodge, dining room, and cottages and was only accessible by train and steamer. From the onset, the Masseys used the site as a summer retreat for the Young Men's Bible League of the Central Methodist Church. Today, the property is a thriving summer camp that also offers overnight tent stays with stunning lake views.

The camp site is in a beautiful pine forest. It’s nicely secluded and they provide a variety of things to help you out while there including chairs and a variety of items for cooking etc.
I really enjoyed swimming in the creek. The swimming hole is decently deep and the water was nice and clear. Plus it felt quite private.
The hosts were very responsive to any messages I sent.
I’d certainly recommend this site!

This was me and my girlfriend’s third time here, and every time has been excellent. Site 1 has a beautiful view of the water steps from the site, and we had a great time swimming in it. The sites are well spaced out, and the outhouse was clean and well maintained compared to a lot of others. This most recent trip the hosts went above and beyond giving me a boost after my car’s battery died. 100% would recommend

This is my 2nd time at Sparrow Lake but with my sister this time. We had a blast and enjoyed the camping spot and the views on the water. Canooing in is so fun! This time they were filming a movie at the summer camp so that was interesting to see when we were launching. Brendan is always a great host and always promptly replies to any questions or concerns. Can't wait to come back next summer!

The site was amazing. Great views of the lake at the beach. Lots of room to run or kick a ball in the field. Plenty of shade and space for tents, canopy’s, etc. Had an amazing time taking the paddle boards out on the lake. we will definitely be back again next year.

2 nights at Lakeside (Parry Sound/Nipissing)
My family and I had a wonderful time camping or glamping at Pat and Mario’s :) the lake was beautiful with all these cool little islands that were uninhabited and the kids went exploring with the many different water crafts provided. The fishing was great! Every time the kids cast a line they caught something! Pat was a lovely host and the trailer was set up with everything we needed. Would highly recommend!

It was a nice stay. Unfortunately the weather was poor for 3 of the 5 days I was there but I made the best of it. My site had "water access" it was on the water but besides launching a canoe it isn't very good for swimming, very weedy, same as the common beach area. I went to Hutcheson beach which is only a five minute drive away. It would still be nice to see a floating dock added.
The site was spacious and it was nice to have the canvas tent there. It is very dark in the tent so bring extra lighting. The bed was comfortable but it needs a head board so the pillows don't fall off. Maybe some hooks or a shelf to put things on.
The space between sites is substantial and you have a lot of privacy from other campers, it was very secluded considering it was only 8-10 minutes to downtown Huntsville.
I had a nice and relaxing stay. Looking forward to my next visit.

We just love the space and privacy. We rented both sites for a family get together. Lots of room whether you trailer or tent. The outhouses are great! We saw deer, cows, turkeys and Canada Geese. Lisa is so amazing to deal with and made sure we were being taken care of should any issues come about. The only issue we had was rain but can't blame Lisa for that LOL! Thanks again Lisa!

Weekend Trip to Peaceful Off-Grid Cabin Retreat
We came out here for a peaceful getaway as most couples would. But, we never expected our cabin to feel like home for three nights and having the most scenic view just from the back porch. Sure the rain kept us from having a fire in the back but that didn’t stop us from seeing all the amazing outlooks and trails!! I would recommend this place for ones who enjoy the quiet and greenery when being stuck in the city life!

When to go
To guarantee access to the many town highlights, visit Parry Sound in June, July, or August. Summer months offer idyllic warm temperatures for water activities, beachside picnics, and nights under the stars. However, the fall foliage can’t be beat for campers wishing to cozy up in cooler temperatures under a canopy of jaw-dropping trees. Similarly, the spring bloom in Parry Sound and nearby Muskoka provide waves of wildflowers as the temperatures begin to rise.
