Cranberry Camp is located 7 kms past the village of Pointe au Baril. It’s surrounded by Ontario native forest (the “bush”) and wetlands in the hinterlands of Georgian Bay. We love to share this beautiful part of the world with visitors! We are 3kms from Sturgeon bay Provincial Park (a nice beach!) and 3kms from the Bayfield Inlet public launch on Georgian Bay (visit the iconic pink rocks and windswept trees of Georgian Bay). We came to this area because of the fresh air and clean water. Visitors to the area should be aware that you cannot see any of the Georgian Bay coastline from the highway or roads. We highly recommend you get out on the water in a boat of some kind (there is water access near here for canoes, kayaks and other boats). We also recommend that visitors go to the French River Provincial Park to understand the unique history and culture of the area. That park is 35-40 min north from here and has a lovely small museum/interpretive centre and a footbridge over the French River. This secondary highway (ON 529) is fairly quiet and decent for cycling. It's very quiet north of the ON 529A turn-off! Cranberry Camp also has a small house, a guest lodge for retreats (we host healthy living and healthy building workshops), 2 lovely and private recreational vehicles (a 24’ Jayco and a 27’ Cougar) as well as a tiny home. All spaces are scent-free, low VOC and no WiFi. We help people create healthy homes and buildings. Hipcamp sites are accessed from hard-packed dirt/gravel driveway either perpendicular or parallel to the road. An outhouse contains a composting toilet (using the Humanure system), a solar light and jug of water for handwashing. We love to host people getting away from the city or taking exploratory road trips.

On your approach to the property from Pointe au Baril you will see several trailers (3) and buildings. There is a vintage "family camping" sign. We are the only open clearing/grassland on highway 529 so you can't miss us! Most of the property close to the road is a meadow with a few trees (we are starting a food forest of nut and fruit trees). Up the hill there are 2 private houses and 2 garages and several outbuildings. This site is situated before the historic restaurant building (vertical log structure not currently used) and so you have shade from the lovely maple tree. Solid ground for car/RV parking and grass under/near the maple tree for a tent. A picnic table is under the Maple tree. There is a small building (pale yellow rough log siding) nearby with a composting toilet (see photos) and water for handwashing. It's usually quiet except for some traffic on long summer weekends (Friday night/ Sunday night). The only other time it's noisy is if the highway (Ontario Highway #69) is closed! There is access onto Cranberry Lake down a small road/lane on the other side of highway - good for fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Georgain Bay public access (ramp and dock) is 3 kms away to the north-west. A nice sand beach is a the provincial park for day use (also 3kms away to the south/east).

There is full afternoon and early evening sun (and maybe some shade in the morning) and a nice expansive view. It's usually quiet except for some traffic on long summer weekends (Friday night/ Sunday night). The only other time it's noisy is if the highway (Ontario Highway #69) is closed! There is access onto Cranberry Lake across the road and down a small road/lane - good for fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Georgian Bay public access (ramp and dock) is 3 kms away to the north-west. A nice sand beach is a the provincial park for day use (also 3kms away to the south/east).

Up the hill there are 2 private houses and 2 garages and several outbuildings. This site is just of the driveway that heads up the hill and towards the guest Lodge and red house. There is some nice shade at almost all time of the day but sunshine too! A great spot for hot days and the middle of summer with nice views to the west! An electrical hook-up is here. It's usually quiet except for some traffic on long summer weekends (Friday night/ Sunday night). The only other time it's noisy is if the highway (Ontario Highway #69) is closed! You are further from the road than the other 2 sites. There is access onto Cranberry Lake across the road and down a small road/lane - good for fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Georgian Bay public access (ramp and dock) is 3 kms away to the north-west. A nice sand beach is a the provincial park for day use (also 3kms away to the south/east).

We enjoyed camping at Cranberry Camp. It was quiet and spacious and the outhouse was clean & fresh! Anne welcomed immediately upon our arrival, and showed us around the property. We enjoyed the privacy and felt safe and comfortable on Anne's property.

My camping experience on Anne’s land was lovely. The amenities were very simple which makes it much like a rustic camping experience. The land was inviting to sit and enjoy. The host was gracious and kind.

The site was very good. Convenient and had what we needed. Unfortunately we arrived late and the mosquitoes feasted on us while we put our tent up.

very cute space! Heard lots of wildlife from the nearby pond/marsh. Had the area to ourselves and was very quiet. The facilities is confusing at first but very usable.
