Yengo National Park has some wonderful look out spots-great to drive to Finchley lookout to watch the sun set or check out Aboriginal art sites. We looked for alternative ways of living 6 years ago so we purchased 220 acres to build an off grid camping/eco resort. The facilities of the camping are quite luxurious some guests labelling them "better than at home" so you can enjoy the bush experience & still have the comfort of a home. Here you can discover amazing wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, cockatoos, lyre birds and a lot of other birds (designated bird drinking stations through a WIRES program which has a lot of success.) Bring a camera and take in the incredible sights such as wildlife, cliffs, caves, and a magical view of Mount Yengo and Moruben from the top of the property. Our site is exclusive use so you and your group can chill out with the company of kangaroos by day and firelight and stunning stars by night. Just over 2 hours drive from Sydney CBD we are in the heart of Darkinjung Country, bordered by the Wollemi and Yengo National Parks. Enjoy the spectacular views as you wind your way along Putty Road passing through farmland, bushland and past rural post boxes. Our property has a 7km walking track around it with a beautiful valley, interesting rock formations, 1 million trees (or so we have been told!) and creek crossings to navigate. Keep your eyes peeled for kangaroos, wombats, koalas, goannas and all manner of native birds and plants. We also have a shallow creek a stone's throw from the camping site, perfect for paddling or exploring. If the peace and quiet gets a little too quiet(!) nearby activities include horse-riding, off-road driving, and the Hunter Valley wineries are just over an hour’s drive away. We (Mark, Sam and Whiskey the labradoodle) can’t wait to welcome you to our little piece of bushland paradise. Other things to note: - There are no facilities at the campsite, so self-contained campers only (you need your own toilet). - The nearest shops are an hour's drive away so make sure you bring all food and drinking water for your stay. - The property is off-grid with limited phone reception (Telstra only). - Camp fires are allowed except during fire bans and firewood is available for $20 per stay. - The maintenance of the track is dependent on when we last worked on it, so you may find yourself creek jumping and making your own path through the vegetation (things grow fast at Putty!). - Off-leash dogs very welcome though please note the camping area is not fully fenced.

Suited our purpose beautifully! We were looking for a secluded spot to spend a couple of days while my wife did some computer work on our way thru from the Blue Mountains to Tamworth. We needed a clear view of the sky for Starlink & also to charge our solar panels. Both worked nicely. Mark & Sam provided an abundance of wood plus a fire pit & wheelbarrow to setup our fire wherever it suited. We just loved sitting around a fabulous fire each night. There is a bit of bush bashing to be done if you’re that way inclined, but no established tracks. All in all, an enjoyable spot to spend a night or two ( as long as you are totally self sufficient).

Truly excellent sites at Banjos. Joanne was most accommodating when we arrived offering to show us the property to see where best suited us whilst not hindering the others there. Access is slightly rutted but our 21ft road caravan made it into the first area with no issues just take your time :) Landscape views were amazing and there was so much space and privacy which was perfect. Definitely recommend this camp to those who are self contained and who want some space for themselves. 10/10. Thanks Jo!

Banjo’s Retreat was an absolute gem. Jo and Barry were such wonderful hosts — incredibly friendly, thoughtful and welcoming from the moment we arrived. You can really tell they care about creating a special experience for their guests. The campsite itself was unbelievably peaceful. It had such a sense of serenity, overlooking the paddock and dam with the beautiful Watagan Mountains in the background. Waking up and winding down to the sound of bellbirds and other native birdlife, with a fresh breeze drifting through, was just magic. There are so many lovely bushwalks nearby, and after a day of exploring, it was so relaxing to sit by the campfire in the evening and soak it all in. One of the loveliest touches was watching the cows slowly wander past to say hello — it really added to the charm of the whole stay. Access was also excellent. We had no trouble getting in and out with our 4WD and off-road 19.61’ off-grid caravan, even in the rain, which was a huge plus. A beautiful, restful spot to switch off and reconnect with nature. We would happily stay again and highly recommend Banjo’s Retreat to anyone looking for peace, scenery and genuinely lovely hosts.

Probably the busiest site I've been so far. But it is well maintained. Lots of people can be a bit overwhelming but I always felt good about where I'm. Good amenities, lovely pool, friendly staff. Most of the spots are flat. Getting in town could be challenging on a Sunday. All in all loved the stay

We drove through the national parks, also went to do some 4wding on some trails, but signs would tell us not to keep going as as the end will be a gate with a private access, I like to 4wd in and out the other side to go on my way not turn around and come back

Campsite Conditions Not as Expected

My partner drove from Sydney and arrived on the 30th of December. I was meant to join him on the night of the 31st. Unfortunately, my partner had to cancel the booking and find another campsite, as there was no potable water available and the river was completely dry. Being so close to New Year’s Eve, everything else was fully booked, which made the situation quite stressful. The showers also caused chlorine staining on his skin, and the only remaining water source was a very small pool of stagnant water. Overall, my partner mentioned that it is a lovely place, aside from the extreme heat and lack of water, and he would recommend it at another time of the season when the river has water. However, it would have been appreciated if we had been informed of these conditions in advance, so we could have made an informed decision before arriving. Additionally, the refund was not processed in full, as we were still charged a camping fee. Thank you for taking the time to read this feedback.

We visited the Mogo Campground which is an amazing setup with great facilities. The dedicated sites with fire pits are clean and neat thanks to the rangers maintaining them.
