Sunset Flats Camping area is part of Wollombi Springs which is a 300 acre mix of open mowed grassed areas, bush and sandstone ridges and backs onto Yengo State Forest. It's totally private, peaceful and pristine. The site is mown grass areas amongst trees with capacity to comfortably accommodate 5 camping areas within walking distance of the central toilet amenity. Each site is approximately 100 metres or more apart and several are private behind a stand of trees. The site by the dam is in full sun all day and ideal for Winter camping. It is flood free and well drained. Travel time from Newcastle or Wahroonga ( start of th M1) is approx. 1.5 hrs Wildlife is plentiful all year round, and the place is a bird watchers delight! Photographers will love the variety of wildflowers throughout the year, and rock formations that change colour with the time of day, depending on what part of the property you are on. If you are looking to recharge the batteries, chill out from the hustle & bustle of life and just get quiet, then this is your place :-) Sunset Flats is the first of a number of camping sites we are creating, and is a wide grassed area with a very gentle slope, shade trees and a nearby fire pit. Great for tents or RV camping, with an easy walk to our brand new 'Loo with a View' composting toilet. Please note there may be one other group in the vicinity at times, but chances are you will have the entire place to yourself most of the time. Access roads to the property are gravel, a little rough in spots with a steep climb, initially, but suitable for 2wd in fine weather, and 4WD if wet. Mountain bikes are welcome and there are a number of trails already cut for use, with plans for a complete circuit on the drawing board. If you enjoy hiking, there are no shortage of tracks to wander along, or you may prefer to just sling a hammock and read a book and soak up the silence. Noisy late night party goers are not our ideal guests, as you will discover sound carries in the bush, and we really want our patrons to enjoy the pristine beauty of the property.

Wood Worker's Rest is a protected flat site ideal for self contained car with smaller vans. (Offgrid, no site internet, mobile coverage or toilet amenities. It is on the site of a Timber Worker's Workshop long since gone. Site receives early morning sun. It's length runs East West and the long side faces North with shade trees and hills vista. Birdlife, Wombats, Kangaroos, Lizards, Goannas are common. While it is adjacent to property access road (making access and setup easy) it has occasional use by host and neighbours (3 neighbour cars passing per day would be considered busy and even unusual). Campsites, Fire Pits, firewood and "space" all available. No water, not toilet. Directly adjacent there is mown paddock hundreds of metres in length and width adjacent to scenic rising hill and bush vistas in all directions. Think Golf, shuttle cock, cycling, footy, cricket, softball. Easy and interesting walks over the property. Access to adjacent Wollombi Springs by car or walking. Easy cycle ride to town (5kms). Private dirt road and hill walks across the delightful property. In earlier times hosted the Wollombi Wilde Ride.

East facing sunlit Hut in secluded elevated valley. Internally 8m x 8m, with 8m x 4m open deck. Backed by trees with open sloped grassland at your feet - a delightful spacious setting with complete privacy and recuperative energy. After decades of being free from Cats, Dogs, Cattle, Pesticides and vermin this place is a haven for Australian Bird and Animal life. Use it as the lounge room and kitchen for a family re-union, or your own creative space for recuperation. The surrounding trees and hills resonate with a rare and special cathedral like echo. Sing, play an instrument and enjoy the slow setting sun. Outdoor, indoor and verandah fireplaces. Share intimacy, chat, and drink in the solitude. Totally Offgrid - Bosch gas hot and cold running shower, Bathroom basin with H and C water, internal composting toilet, internal LED lighting, modest 240V Solar system, USB charging, pressure H C water. Electric Bar Fridge. Level timber floor, opening windows, no screens. Undercover verandah external Gas LPG stove/oven Internal Induction cooktop and electric kettle. Internal older style wood fired combustion heater. Bring own linen, towels. 1 x double bed. Bring own stretchers, swags or airbeds for more. Outside wood fired BBQ area on flat terrace. Sleep inside under corrugated iron roof on double bed. Add friends and family with your swags, tents or airbeds. Dream outside on the elevated deck's "Million Star Hotel". (nod to Kym Pitman )

Loved our stay at Wollombi Springs! Was absolutely tranquil - Robert keeps the bookings limited so even though there were other campers around we barely saw them despite the long weekend. Toilet facility was lovely and clean and so great having lots of firewood around. We will definitely be back!

My wife and I recently stayed at Sunset Flats and had a fantastic experience. Robert, the landowner, met us at the designated meeting point and escorted us to the campground, as the access road can be a bit rough. On arrival, he kindly offered us some fresh produce including lemongrass, lemons, cherry guava and mint, which was a really thoughtful touch. Once we arrived at the site, Robert gave us a quick tour of the property, including emergency points, the location of amenities and an overview of the different dispersed camping spots available. The amenities were very clean and well maintained. After we had set up, he stopped by briefly to check that we had everything we needed. He even went out of his way to cut up some fallen branches near our campsite with his battery chainsaw so we could use them as firewood. The campsite itself was fantastic and very private and peaceful. Overall, we had a great time at Sunset Flats. Robert was extremely accommodating and a genuinely lovely person.

Drove down into the campsite during a 37 degree day. Heavy tree cover was a saving grace and did help in making it cooler. Campsite is very spacious and quite secluded from other campers. Robert was extremely helpful and helped us in guiding the campsite and also left a few things for us like some hot plates for cooking. The bathroom is kept extremely clean and had no smell. There is plenty of firewood available around the campsite. The drive into the campsite was a bit tricky. It is an uphill drive on rocky terrain. We drove in on an all wheel drive and was able to drive relatively stress free. However I would reccomend that you drive in with a car that has some clearance as there are a few rocks on the trail. There is a hill a few hundred metres away from the site which does have Optus and Telstra coverage. However for the most part service is limited. I would definitely recommend this campsite and a big shoutout to Robert for being so kind and helpful.

Robert is a friendly and attentive host. Very quiet and basic property which suited our needs. Kids loved it. We have a 4x2 SUV and the only "exciting" part of was negotiating the road up to the site. Very doable but "softer" cars (non-4x4s) need to drive carefully. Otherwise, we'll be back.

The camp site is wonderfully quiet and set against a beautiful backdrop, with the only noise heard being the local wildlife. Amenities were clean and presented well. Robert is a wonderful host and made the whole experience great. Would highly recommend.

Had a nice, peaceful time at Wollombi Springs, would love to come back again. Just a short drive from Wollombi town centre (if your navigation doesn't take you the wrong way!); would recommend a vehicle with some clearance for the rocky trail to the campsites. Also to note, there's little to no reception which can make contacting the host difficult once you're out there (especially when you've gone the wrong way and end up an hour late - sorry again!). Very peaceful, secluded valley with lots of different spots to camp - well-kept grassy areas under the stars or sheltered by the trees with plenty of room between campers. 'Choose your own adventure' camping gear available about the place, too - cooking gear and campfire making equipment. Composting loo was very tidy, with fresh flowers and little solar lights to help you find it in the night. Host very welcoming and obliging and made sure I had everything I needed. Thank you again Robert!

Terrific quiet spot in the Wollombi bush - the open grassy area was terrific for our family of four, with a nice clean toilet, tonnes of space, and lots of peace and quiet. Robert was a terrific host as well! Would advise caution for low slung 2wds as the road in is a little rough, but OK if you take it slow!

Beautiful peaceful camp with plenty of options for campsites well away from each other so you really feel as if you have the place to yourselves. Opportunity for bush walks and exploring the area. Robert is a fantastic host, meeting and showing us into the site. Thankyou so much, we had a lovely night under the stars enjoying the solitude and scenery. We look forward to returning.

Rob was a great host. The camping spot was nice and secluded and was nice for a few of us to stay. The compost toilet was very clean and there was water available. Made it up the track in a 2WD X-Trail no problem.

The campground is located in a lovely secluded valley with large grassy areas surrounded by forest. We were escorted into the campground by Robert and he showed us various points of interest. Robert was very welcoming and engaging and even supplied us with some fresh produce. Very good host. There are walking trails close by. We also drove down to Mogo campground and did the walk to Circuit flat bridge, part of the old North Rd, which is well worth a look. In my opinion and at the time of our visit you would need a AWD as a minimum for access and if you have a camper trailer or small hybrid van, 4WD required due to clearance, rocky, steep terrain on the access track. Not suitable for large vans, but check with Robert. A good idea would be to take an axe, chainsaw/silky/bowsaw to process firewood of which there is plenty of you want a fire. Toilet was clean and non smelling with fresh flowers on the window sill, my wife was very impressed. Overall we had a great time -highly recommended.

Camping at Robert's property was delightful. Robert himself was very attentive and helpful. He has created some beautiful spots on his property for camping, all which include materials for fires. I felt very immersed in nature and very relaxed, lots of wildlife around to listen to and see which was lovely. The toilet was very clean, and he has a water tank for washing. We loved our stay and would highly recommend! Thank you Robert!!

Loved the space and the privacy! The geography and layout of the location means that even with other groups around you don’t see or hear them! Ideal, the host is a good chap who is willing to work with my terrible communication skills. Absolutely wouod recommend and return.

A great 2-night stay at Sunset Flats. Robert is super friendly, informative, and generous with his time. Communication was great. The place itself has plenty of space and corners to hide away in, and it is very well kept. I know he's going to be making further developments to the shape and structure of the property, and they all sound great. My one piece of feedback is the lack of substantial pieces of firewood. The place is swimming in wood to burn, but you need some logs for a good fire to take you into the night. I'm pretty resourceful and have the tools and energy to process what I found, so it wasn't a problem, but if it's claimed to be there, it probably should be. People love a good fire and plan, pack, and purchase around having logs to burn, and I probably would have picked up a bag or 2 if I'd known. Thanks again, Robert - I'll be back. Recommended.

I spent one night with my partner at Sunset Flats. and honestly couldn’t have asked for a better host. Robert was incredibly accommodating and just a genuinely nice person. He went above and beyond to help us out when things didn’t go to plan. First off, we lost reception on the way in (just a heads up for anyone with Vodafone – signal’s patchy in the area), so we couldn’t contact Robert or meet him at the designated meeting point. We ended up driving straight to the campsite instead. Not long after, Robert came down personally to check in and make sure we were settled, which we really appreciated. The next morning, our car wouldn’t start and we were pretty stressed—home was about two hours away and we were stuck. Without hesitation, Robert brought down jumper leads, helped us get the car going, and stayed with us the whole time to make sure everything was okay. It was honestly such a relief having someone that kind and helpful around. The campsite itself was beautiful, peaceful, and had everything we needed. We woke up early morning and saw a few wombats on a morning walk. Also - I’ve honestly never seen a campsite toilet that spotless before. But what really stood out was the hospitality and care Robert showed us. Would absolutely recommend staying here—not just for the spot, but for the kind of host who truly looks out for his guests.

My friends and I stayed at this campsite for two nights and had a wonderful time. The owner, Robert, was incredibly helpful—he guided us to the site and made sure we had everything we needed. The facilities were great, especially the toilets, which were very clean and well-maintained. The check-in process was smooth, and communication with the hosts was seamless from start to finish. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back again. Highly recommend this campsite for a peaceful and well-organised outdoor experience!

Beautiful spot to camp. Very friendly and helpful host Robert. There was plenty of firewood and the composting toilet very clean during our time there. The stars were amazing and despite it being Easter and all sites booked, it was very private and far from the next campsite. Not far from Wollombi Village which is great to explore. The road up is pretty bumpy and a bit hairy in parts so be prepared for that but Robert meets you at the bottom and escorts you up. Highly recommend this place!
