Camping near Forest Hill guide

Overview

If you want to visit Melbourne and also explore the surrounding vineyards, national parks, and coastline, then camping near one of the city’s eastern suburbs can be a smart move. Melbourne CBD is about a 30-minute drive away and can be reached by public transport, making it easy to escape the city beyond Forest Hill. There’s no camping in Forest Hill itself, but you’ll find one of Melbourne’s largest urban holiday parks right nearby, which has powered sites, amenities blocks, and a swimming pool. Then head east to the Dandenong Ranges National Park (also about a 30-minute drive) to hike through the woodlands and ride the Puffing Billy steam railway. Beyond the city limits, the hiking and biking trails of Yarra Ranges National Park, the vineyards and wineries of the Yarra Valley, and the beaches and seaside towns of the Mornington Peninsula are also within day-trip distance.
