17 acres, with 2 cleared, only 3 kms as the crow flies, from the coast. You can hear the surf in the evening. The property is the bush refuge corner of a larger grazing property. Whilst sheep and cattle graze on one side of the fence, the wildlife grazing on "our" side includes echidnas, wombats, wallabies, possums, koalas, and is home to more than 30 species of birds identified so far. Tarwin Lower EcoStudio is not far out of town and the Tarwin River (4 kms), for boating, paddling and fishing. Slightly further afield is Andersen Inlet (great fishing, paddling, paddle boarding, boating, and shallow waters for very young children), Venus Bay Surf beaches, and Walkerville South bay beach (with boat ramp). Waratah Bay and Wilsons Promontory less than an hour's drive away. And that's just the water sports. The Great Southern Rail Trail is just up the road, at Koonwarra or Leongatha, and has a range of rides with varying degrees of challenge. The Eco Studio itself is completely off grid, built from reclaimed and recycled materials, as part of our commitment to living lightly. There is an outdoor kitchen, and composting toilet, and our home garden (we live on the property too) is often abundant and the fresh organic produce is for sale for our visitors. PLEASE CHECK the description for further details about what is provided and to indicate if you are bringing your pet(s).

Sandy Point Farm Camp

Camp in a semi-sheltered paddock on our 25 acre family farm "Ennsivale", on the outskirts of Sandy Point. You'll be on the doorstep of the most beautiful beaches, fishing, vibrant local towns and Wilson’s Prom. Wake up to birdsong, go to sleep to the sound of the waves, and spot a koala if you’re lucky. With a flush toilet, a cold shower, an outdoor fridge (old but works fine!), a power point for charging devices, and access to a drinking water tap, you’ll be very comfortable as you explore the local area. We love it here and we know you will too. You'll have the paddock to yourself but you'll be close enough to the action to see the comings and goings of our multigenerational family who live here as we potter around the farm, veggie garden and orchard. Say hi! Say g'day to the curious chooks and friendly dogs and enjoy the top-notch "equine views" from your site with three lovely horses in the next paddock. Sandy Point beaches and General Store 2 mins drive (1km) Shallow Inlet Marine and Coastal Park 5 mins drive Waratah Bay town / beach 10 mins Fish Creek 15 mins (cafes, galleries, pharmacy, general store, pub) Foster 20 mins (stock up at local IGA and Aherns fruit market; pub and take-away outlets) Walkerville North beach 20 mins Wilsons Prom 25 mins to gate and 50 mins to Tidal River You can have a campfire in the fire pit April-Nov as long as conditions are suitable (eg not windy and no fire restrictions) - bring your own firewood. We only allow one group to book at once so the site’s all yours - site is suitable for anything from one or two travellers or a larger group. The camp site has a large flat area and can accommodate most vehicles. The ground surface is level, but grass is a bit rough and expect some sticks and twigs and holes around. Horses sometimes graze the paddock and poo is picked up but if you're lucky you might find some remnants! No wild party groups, please! We want you to have a fantastic time but please respect the peaceful surrounds, our neighbours and us (your site is a hundred metres from our home, on the other side of an orchard, and we have small children), so please keep the noise down after 10pm. Sorry but no pets, as we have stock, horses and our own dogs and they may not mix well.

Camping in Wilsons Promontory National Park guide

Overview

About

This wild, windswept peninsula about three hours south of Melbourne is one of Victoria’s top camping getaways. Spot wildlife on coastal walks, or hike up the granite cliffs of Mount Oberon and Mount Bishop, where sweeping views of Bass Strait are the reward. Swim at protected bays like Norman Beach, Sealers Cove, and Squeaky Beach—named for its melodious grains of quartz sand—or leave footprints across the otherworldly Big Drift sand dunes. “The Prom,” as it’s known to locals, has a handful of camping areas scattered on diverse terrain. From trekking to the continent’s edge on an overnight hike to glamping at the well-appointed hub of Tidal River, there’s a place for everyone under the southern stars.

Notable campgrounds

  • Best for families: The Prom’s most popular base camp, Tidal River Campground features hot showers, powered sites, and cabins.
  • Best for wildlife watchers: Wallabies, wombats, and kangaroos are frequent visitors at the quieter Stockyard Campground.
  • Best for hikers: Accessible via a two-hour walk, Sealers Cove Campground offers seclusion by the beach.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  1. Book campsites, cabins, and overnight permits online at the Parks Victoria website.
  2. Reservations at Tidal River over the Australian summer holidays in late December and January are awarded by ballot. Be sure to submit your ballot by the mid-July deadline.
  3. Most other dates are open up to 18 months in advance, so book early to avoid getting shut out.

When to go

Summer is the best time to swim at the Prom’s beaches, while the bush blooms with wildflowers in the spring. Peak seasons include Easter, Labour Day, Melbourne Cup weekend (the last weekend in October), and Christmas, so be prepared for holiday crowds. Visit during autumn for crisp weather and fewer crowds, and look out for migrating whales offshore during winter.

Know before you go

  • Forget something? The general store at Tidal River Campground carries grocery items and a selection of gear.
  • Pack plenty of water or be prepared to treat water, as drinkable water is in short supply at campsites other than Tidal River.
  • Due to bushfire risk, camp fires and barbecues are not allowed anywhere in Wilsons Promontory National Park. Bring a gas or liquid stove for cooking.
  • For campers with limited mobility, the Wirilda and She-oak Cabins at Tidal River are fully accessible.
