Weekend Trip to Goulburn Downs

Had such a great time here, even with some rain. We came with our camper trailer and our dog, and it ended up being the perfect little escape. Still managed to do some camp cooking, fishing, and spent plenty of time just hanging out by the fire. The spot is beautiful—right on the river and super peaceful. We’ll definitely be back!

My families second visit to Noel, once again we enjoyed our stay. He is a great host. My dog loved his big lawn area, not something we have at home. Weather was terrible, but the hedge gave us some protection from the wind. We explored the local area and caught up with friends, so much to do up here ,we will be back.

We enjoyed our stay at The Paddock, nice open space with plenty of room between campers. Enjoyed being able to light a fire right next to our camp. The facilities are dated, but a handy addition to the site.

We had a great time at window to the wetlands. Carmel was so welcoming & accomodating. The facilities are amazing & well maintained. Beautiful quiet area with the birds from the wetlands providing the perfect soundtrack.

Super helpful host, and amazing huge private campsites. They welcomed me and guided me to my camp site, then we had car trouble in the morning and they were more than willing to lend me a hand. 10/10 will come back.

1 night at Goulburn Downs

Had a amazing night at camp site 6. Its so close to river so we just sat our chairs on the bank and watched the wildlife. There is a fire pit with firewood everywhere. We forgot our camping box ! Tim was wonderful and brought his cooking gear down for us to borrow even though it was so late when we realised our forgetfulness. In the morning we caught 4 fish from the river. Tim allowed us to stay all day and make the most of the beautiful river.

If like me, your idea of a good camping trip is to take long walks with your dog along meandering tracks on a vast property to spy on the wildlife, and then return to a quiet peaceful camping spot then this property is for you. I highly rate Manfred and his Hipcamp. I will be returning soon.

2 nights at Radcliffe in Echuca

I usually don’t go in to too much detail on hipcamp because as a rule they’re pretty good. So in the interests of fairness and transparency to the hipcamp community out there: This COULD be a really good hipcamp, but there needs to be some clarity and honesty about what it is and where it is located. It is NOT 1 Acre of land it is a half acre at best and narrow and tight.. The truck/car noise is loud and constant, particularly the air brakes on B doubles all through the night. It is tight to maneuver a 9M Van and a 5 Metre 4WD to achieve anything close to a decent campsite because it is so small. We didn’t appreciate being unable to use most of the block because it had been so heavily watered. The only way you’ll get a 9M Van anywhere near the green grass would be by backing in to the site as there isn't a turning circle owing to the placement of power outlets and trees. Even if we had managed it, the the dual axles would have torn the site apart - I wouldn’t appreciate someone doing that to me, hence I wont do it to others out of respect. So essentially what we were left with was the dirt. The Power and water were the only real reward, although proximity by car to Echuca was also well regarded - but it is not 400 metres away. Sorry but Google Maps is pretty accurate on this - its 1000 Metres We drove in, and were forced to reverse out of a tight spot. My suggestion is read this review prior to considering this campsite. Our private, riverfront secluded campsites are large and clean. All 6 sites are riverfront with power and fresh water supplied. They are relatively flat, level grass/dirt areas with gum trees peppered throughout the site for shade in summer. We can accommodate any type and size of camping vehicle and 2WDs. Lake Eppalock is a 25min drive where you can engage in water sport activities. The Campaspe River is 10mins away. The farm is very quiet and restful with the sounds of abundant native bird life and provides great subjects and scenery for the photographic enthusiast. Loud, party groups with music at high volume are not permitted. Chainsaws and motorbikes are also not permitted.

Our 300-acre off-grid property backs onto the Barmah National Park. This forest, together with the adjoining Millewa forest, forms the largest River Red Gum forest in the world - it's majestic to explore. Our property is just 500 meters from the Murray River. From your camp, roughly a 1 kilometre walk through the forest. On our boundary is Backwater Creek, which fills with water when the Murray River is up. NOTE: Creek is often dry. It has water in it after environmental flows of the Murray. This can happen several times a year and the water lasts a few months. If you have any questions about water levels please ask before booking as it might be dry when you're here. We're located just 5kms northeast of Moama, where you can hop aboard a paddle-steamer, visit waterside wineries and soak up rich riverboat heritage. We offer a few large, beautiful, basic bush camping sites (the best kind!) in amongst 50 acres of bushland, with 100's of meters and trees between you and other potential campers. The rest of our property is used for cropping and sheep. Campers must take out what you bring in. Big Bama and No 3 - you'll need to be fully self contained. There is a dump point in Moama. Toilets can be hired from Central Hire in Echuca. They can deliver it for you. Overview

In the 19th century, the Port of Echuca was the biggest and busiest along the Murray River, and boats still ply its waters today. Whether you’re setting sail onboard a traditional paddle steamer, taking to the water to canoe, kayak, or waterski, or exploring the network of bushwalking and biking trails along the riverside—you’ll never be far from the water in Echuca. Campers can stay at a tranquil riverside Hipcamp, rent a houseboat, or check into a holiday park or caravan park with facilities such as a camp kitchen, a dump point, and a swimming pool.

Where to go

Along the Murray River

The Murray River winds its way along the border of Victoria and New South Wales, affording plenty of options for boating, fishing, and bushwalking. Once you’ve explored the twin towns of Echuca-Moama, on opposite banks of the Murray River, set out to explore the riverside and pitch your tent or park your motorhome at one of the beach camping areas.

Barmah Lakes

A 45-minute drive northeast of Echuca, Barmah National Park sits on the shores of Barmah Lake, where you can hike through River Red Gum forests, fish for Murray Cod, and paddle along the scenic creeks. Bring your boat or canoe to explore Barmah Lake or neighbouring Moira Lake, and take your pick of several lakeside camping areas.

Murray Valley National Park

The Murray River winds its way north into the River Red Gum forests and Riverina wetlands of the Murray Valley National Park. Bushwalking, bird-watching, and paddling are the main pastimes in the park, and there are several campgrounds with tent, motorhome, and caravan sites available.

When to go

Temperatures soar in Echuca during the summer months, and the milder spring and autumn months provide more pleasant weather for river cruises and other outdoor activities. The liveliest time to visit is during one of Echuca’s annual events, such as the Southern 80 waterski festival and the Riverboats Music Festival, both in February.
